I somehow thought all the time that Honest Hearts is the next one. Don't know why.

As some of you may have noticed, I'm replaying the original Fallout 3 on my win 7 rig to 'bridge the gap' after being fired up from New vegas.

I might as well have stuck a hairbrush up my a**. Since I'm now in a mood where if I actually met the man who let all the bugs get past him, I'd flip him inside out using a pair of football boots, and give him to the local urchins to spit on.

;)

Well lets hope the new patch fixes the issue's they promise it will, especially the performance ones.

I'm now playing Fallout Tactics. And good fun it is too.

Killing is kind of like playin' a basketball game. I am there. and the other player is there. and it's just the two of us. and I put the other player's body in my van. and I am the winner. - Nice Pete.

As much as I liked the campaign, I think the multiplayer was what made that game special. There's nothing quite like coordinating your squad with the rest of your team who have their squads. It was a good blend of multiplayer skirmish and role playing character sheets.

Argggh.

It would have been an instant buy before but enthusiasm's wslightly waned now and 10USD is pretty expensive (how big is it?). Maybe I'll wait till bundle, but that'll take months... arrgggh.

I'm a Fallout fan with mild OCD and bitchy entitled tendencies that tends to go all WHEEEEEEE about whatever Avellone writes and then complains about it like a heartbroken girl that discovered her guy cheated her at the prom so I bought it.

For now, it's good.

Blah, I thought downloading Dead Money took too long, so I continued playing FNV for an hour.. then I checked back to download and saw that Steam stopped it while I was playing. God damnit, now I still have 10 minutes left for download...

My new character is still at level 10, that's why I tried to get him to 14 fast... but damn, if you want it, somehow leveling up is not going fast... not at all.

'fraid I'm still sticking to what I said before - no buy for me due to xpox exclusivity. Unselfishly, I'll still hope it's good.

You're a cheery wee bugger, Nep. Have I ever said that?

Played it already a bit. So far it's ok. The dog <-> god thingy is made interesting. It's not pretty difficult yet, though it might be because of my level 29 character or because I am only ~1 hour in.

Same here, very early on. I won't make any claims to difficulty yet (my character is level 24 going in) but I think it really encourages you to move slowly and keep an eye open. And with that in place, I think it isolates many players from enjoying it, hehe. If you're a naturally slow-moving player, I think you'll have a much easier time with this.

It's certainly atmospheric and yes, very Avellone so far. Just the conversation with God/Dog was pretty awesome, well written and interesting.

I got to finally try to write a Torment "they communicate everything via text" character for a modern-day role-playing game with Christine to see how that would be received (mixed reaction, some people thought we were lazy or cheap, and they're partly right, even if that wasn't the intention - voice acting is expensive, and if we can get more story with less voiced words, I'm fine with that). Wouldn't have gone over so well in a larger game, I suspect, so glad the DLC allowed for it.

Played some more hours. New status report: Difficult level is getting a bit higher, though it's not super total high yet. Radios are more or less easy to find. Even if not, I don't die and have to do ****load of save&loads like everyone wrote in their reviews. I am running a bit low on ammo in the moment, but it's still not a big deal.

/Edit: About Christine. I really like her and think she is the best of the three companions. Though, her subtitle-like dialogue is kind of annoying to me, because of two reasons:

1. The text is too fast. I have to jump over the lines, before the next line pops up, which is really annoying. Especially because english is obviously not my main language, so I need a little bit longer to fully understand everything.

2. The dialog is telling me what she does, but the visual does not. I know why this is how it is and I know it would have been lots of work to create new animations, etc. so I can understand how it was dealed with. Still, I needed some time to get into this, because it for sure was distracting for me first. I mean... in a Fallout game like the ones we know from history books, this wouldn't have been a problem. But in this "oh, first person perspective is soooo immersive! We can't do any other rpgs anymore, because first person perspective is... sooooo immersive and back in the days the devs just have been limited!"-time it feels wrong to me.

Finished it. Overall it was pretty good. I liked the characters and even started to hate some, after I've heard the full story about everything. The foreshadowing stuff was great too. For the whole thing, I needed approx 6 hours, so I'll guess one can say the 10 euro have been ok.

It was't as difficult as I thought it will be. Seriously, after all the whining I expected a lot... Didn't even had to reload all the time, just close to the end a few tries have been needed. But even this wasn't that worse.

Bugs, I found none. Or let's say, I didn't saw any.

Comparing Dead Money to the Fallout 3 DLCs, I personally find them hilariously bad. The writing, the stories, etc... in my opinion they can't hold up with Dead Money. Though, I never finished any Fallout 3 DLC except Operation: Anchorage, because they always has been something that annoyed me a lot or it was just god damn boring to play. Maybe I am biased...

/Edit: Also updated my no-dialog-tags mod with a Dead Money file.

I've played through Dead Money on my 360 and hardset parts to me were the radio puzzles in the Sierra Madre and the run to Sierra Madre gates after activating Gala.

But yeah, writing was great.

Posted

The running to the building was only annoying to me, because most of the time, I was running in a circle... it was too dark and contorted to see the right way.

The radio puzzles, I found more or less easy. There have been times where I needed to look out for them more, but in general I could avoid / trick them easy.

Also finished it and found it worth the money. And found the whole "oh god the difficulty and traps are so unfair" complaining greatly exaggerated. If you're careful, you'll be fine. It's nice though that it really does feel like a much more hostile environment than other games. I think many more modern players would have some trouble getting used to how the game puts the pressure on you. I was never hurting for supplies in the game but I think the game definitely had a nice tension to it because of the many ways you can get damaged. That said, if I had went in under level 20 (I was 24), I may well have sung a different tune.

There was a particular section with the radio things in the casino where I had to reload a few times though but that was pretty much the only situation where I felt annoyed.

The story, writing and all that were top-notch. Good skill checks and awesome voiceacting. All that was extremely well done and I was surprised at how invested I felt into it, despite it only being a DLC.

Still, I do hope upcoming DLCs will be a bit more open in very general terms. I tend to like games where I don't get sorta "locked away" for a long period of time.

Quick question. Hope you don't mind me being lazy.

Should I start a new character, or can I use one of the ones I've finished the main campaign with?
