If you happened to patch the game in the wrong order or have the first release.

 

It's a horrible horrible game, but the rule implementation is pretty good. Great 'tabletop' feel of the whole thing. I always wished some one would have taken those assets and made something worthwhile with it.

You are thinking of Pool of Radiance: Ruins of Myth Drannor.

It's at it's best when you're playing with 4 friends but basically it's a Diablo clone played as a first person shooter. I went through the main game without DLC on my own and had a good time.

Maybe so. I remember the same tale told to frighten gamers who wouldn't behave, but wasn't that older.

Fairly sure this was it. The patch took care of the issue if I remember correctly, although I'd still be wary of putting that game on a PC that you valued.

It was Pool of Radiance: Ruins of Myth Drannor that did it (and I believe this was fixed in a patch - I know the budget version didn't do it).

Same here. I'd easily recommend it as a single-player game. I think the game scales the number of baddies you face at any given time, based on how many people are playing it, and that's the only difference between Single- or multi-player.

 

For DLCs I'd recommend Zombie Island of Dr. Ned and Secret Armory of General Knoxx. The former has great atmosphere, and the latter feels like a complete game in itself. Claptrap Revolution was good but imho it's a distant 3rd compared to the other two. Mad Moxxi's Underdome is a grindfest in single-player mode. Bleh.

I really enjoyed Borderlands. I hate Diablo clones for the most part, I don't care about loot or grinding usually. I think the humor kept me. And the mechanics are solid enough.

By the way I don't have a console, and I don't really 'feel' Alpha Protocol, although I'll probably play it once it cools down pricewize.

It's currently on sale for $15 at gamersgate.

Just finished Two Worlds 2. Pityful ending with a boss fight very arcade-like. I didn't know you could ruin the feel of a game with just a bad ending. Anyway, without the ending, the game is just above ok. After the part in the marshes, you can just stop playing.

By the way, if you didn't play it, Divine Divinity is a good game.

Not really a mmorpheger man. I prefer my games to have a beginning and an ending.

 

It does have this. It is broken up into chapters and books, and each book is a self-contained storyline. As a fan of RPG's, LotRO compares very favorably with some of the best. It has some of the best storytelling I've encountered in any game genre.

 

edit: Oh, and it is free, so nothing lost if it doesn't turn out to be your cup o' tea.

Do you mean the Pool of Radiance PoS from 2001? Or was there another bug in ToEE I missed?

We discovered a few posts later that it was Pool of Radiance I was thinking of.

I'm playing Might and Magic, and so far it's hilarious. Every mage speaks in a booming voice.

Sierra Tools also did the drive format thing on uninstall I believe, which was probably even more widespread in the early noughties.

Has anyone played Dark Messiah? I've been looking at it for some time and it looks interesting, but I can't decide.

 

It's an RPG. Not terribly non-linear or deep, but unless you plan on replaying it I wouldn't worry - as a once over game it's really cool and fun. I highly recommend it. Fun combat, 3 classes (which you can mix and match), nice graphics, story/atmosphere is definitely enough to keep you going.

And it does have four or five endings, if I remember correctly, so there is some replay value.

lol? I found combat easy. You're probably not using your environment enough. If somebody catches fire, that's close to (or is) an instant kill. If somebody hits spikes, again, instant kill. If somebody falls out a window, instant kill. Sometimes these things will only severely wound them, but still.

 

And you don't need fireballs to kill them. The first fire spell works fine. Other than that, melee is just generally considered the easiest route in the game (although I loved playing with mage spells). Truth be told, I hybridised a bit, taking skills from every class and killing with all three, too.

 

Might want to look up some guides as to where to find the awesome enchanted weapons and armour because it's easy to miss some really cool ones.
