Reg1.1 Posted June 1, 2010 Posted June 1, 2010 It hurts my eyes to read the comments about it, just put a finger to the monitor and look and constantly move both codes, it's not the mini-game's fault it's challenging, it is hard at first, but it gets very easy after a few times. And if you see that you don't have time, just right-click. Enough with the retardation with these comments about how the mini-game is badly designed and strains the eyes, don't look into it's soul, just scan till you see the code. Honestly, when did gamers become such c*nts. Also nothing written here is aimed at people with bad eye sight, if you have a health issue, please neglect what I wrote, as for all of you perfectly OK, the game is too hard for me, sisies, try harder, drop and give me AF6KS9TD A3K7JDS5
blackwolfe Posted June 1, 2010 Posted June 1, 2010 Thats it, decaf for you from now on Yes, the hacking minigame is ok, but the controls for it could have been better, at least for the pc. Thats the only problem I have with it.
LookAndRoll Posted June 1, 2010 Posted June 1, 2010 Yeah, "Ooh its so h4rdz to see teh numb0rs" *Alarm going off Take that you pansie
zkylon Posted June 1, 2010 Posted June 1, 2010 What's that thing about hacking getting more difficult as you improve your sabotage skill (yeah, the other way around)? I read it somewhere and now i forgot. So far, it's been somewhat challenging but doable, though i feel like the above statement is true and it gets harder as i progress the skill. Maybe it's just the game getting more difficult but given i'm a Tech Specialist, shouldn't it be getting easier?
Silvernite Posted June 1, 2010 Posted June 1, 2010 I agree. The controls for the PC is retarded. The mouse hovers like 5 inches above the actual box. But I have no problems with the mini game. It's like a word search, only you just look for the numbers that don't move.
Azazel005 Posted June 1, 2010 Posted June 1, 2010 I really don't get the all the hoohaa over the hacking minigame. The fact that the cursor movees slowly part of the challenge, I tend to move both lines of code toward the center while I am checking the table and can 80% of the time hack the system before the first security protocol change. I felt it was one of the silliest semantic gripes when I browsed the Gamespot review. In fact all of the reviews I have read seem half baked. I like all the minegames (console).

Deraldin Posted June 2, 2010 Posted June 2, 2010 Get to the second level of Sabotage skill. Big difference. I had level 13 in the skill. The final mission in Rome was a nightmare with the hacking there. 15 seconds to hack, 4 letter combinations and resets every 4 seconds? Screw you hacking minigame!
LookAndRoll Posted June 2, 2010 Posted June 2, 2010 (edited) Can you use the EMP skills to break it? Edited June 2, 2010 by LookAndRoll
Deraldin Posted June 2, 2010 Posted June 2, 2010 Can you use the EMP skills to break it? Not sure. I didn't have any at that point in the level.
zkylon Posted June 2, 2010 Posted June 2, 2010 Not sure. I didn't have any at that point in the level. You probably can. One thing i just discovered is that you can hold more than one "pack" of the same gadget. So instead of having just 2 EMP grenades, i equipped the EMPs on two slots and now i have four. I dunno if that was obvious for everyone but i just found out and i could've used it before

No, I didnt know that either and I was just thinking about buying some new armor that could give me more item space for just that, EMP grenades. Nice to know...!
Reg1.1 Posted June 2, 2010 Author Posted June 2, 2010 Also the difficulty of hacking has more to do with the computer you are hacking. Take this weirdness for example. In Rome, where you infiltrate the CIA base, there is this latop with some emails I think, for me it had 4 symbol combinations and the protocols shifted every 5 seconds, while the giant mainframe thing had 8 symbol combinations and they shifted after like 9 seconds. GO figure, weirdness on Obsidians part.
Bos_hybrid Posted June 2, 2010 Posted June 2, 2010 I enjoyed all the mini games, despite using mouse and keyboard. Felt like you were actually doing something, I also liked that you could use the emp grenade if you inclined to do so. Choice.
Reg1.1 Posted June 2, 2010 Author Posted June 2, 2010 Actually, due to a slow PC, I often have to restart the lock picking minigame, because the picks move so slow as compared to the mouse and the time just isn't enough if the first tumbler is long, so I only use EMPs for craking safes, because they start an alarm if you right-click out of the mini-game. Acing every other minigame with ease.

Mojito Posted June 2, 2010 Posted June 2, 2010 I love hacking because apart from the other minigames it's actually challenging. You don't know if you're going to succeed.
Shadow Operative Posted June 2, 2010 Posted June 2, 2010 And you can equip printed circuitry and integrated circuitry in the upgrade slots of the armour and after that mini games are very easy with level two of breaking skill in sabotage "...Waste of a Missile but everyone on this Island seem Trigger-happy"
FlintlockJazz Posted June 2, 2010 Posted June 2, 2010 I got given advice on the GOG forums to squint when doing the hacking minigame, and my god does it actually work. Not sure why, but when you squint you can just see the codes so much easier, I was breezing through them (apart from the last ones in Rome like a previous user mentioned, the ones with just 4 digits in, but even then it was doable). I like that there is a chance of failure if you don't do your best, that it does provide a challenge. I also liked the minigames in Alpha Protocol, they actually fitted in my humble opinion. "That rabbit's dynamite!" - King Arthur, Monty Python and the Quest for the Holy Grail "Space is big, really big." - Douglas Adams
Sid Nitzerglobin Posted June 2, 2010 Posted June 2, 2010 After a night with the computer hacking mini-game it's like I don't even see the code anymore. I just see blonde, brunette, redhead ... Seriously though, I don't think I would make it through this game if it weren't for EMPs/interference. Lockpicking and bypass are fine and the overall concept of hacking isn't exactly rocket surgery, just very hard on the eyes and kinda frustrating to me. Meh, at least they gave us a way around it that doesn't require too much investment of AP/cash.
Kasabian Posted June 2, 2010 Posted June 2, 2010 Hmm, hacking is flawed, not in how it works, that is innovative. The problem is controls, not optimized for PC users unfortunately. ~R.I.P. Adam aka "Ild
Morgoth Posted June 2, 2010 Posted June 2, 2010 I only figured out in my second playthrough that I could use EMP grenades for getting the hacking done. Boy, what a reliever. Rain makes everything better.
Mk1 Posted June 2, 2010 Posted June 2, 2010 And you can equip printed circuitry and integrated circuitry in the upgrade slots of the armour and after that mini games are very easy with level two of breaking skill in sabotage Yep, this works really well. Not sure how much harder it'd be without it, but this way it's a breeze.
Jackalmonkey Posted June 2, 2010 Posted June 2, 2010 I tend to play my 360 games on a portable/wireless widescreen SD display, but had to move to a 1080p display when I ran into the first hacking minigame. Given that one Obsidian developer has recently complained about games making it through TCR despite the illegibility of their text in SD, I'm pretty disappointed. And I'm honestly wondering whether any AP hacking-induced seizures will turn up as news items in the coming weeks. A dull boy.

The final mission in Rome was a nightmare with the hacking there. 15 seconds to hack, 4 letter combinations and resets every 4 seconds? Screw you hacking minigame! The gear must make a big difference. I am pretty sure they were at least 6 letter combos for me, and I had the gear that improves your hacking in my armor. I may have had intel as well. However, it was my first hub so it's possible there is some scaling. Edited June 2, 2010 by Thorton_AP
