They know PC users will just pirate the game anyway.

While it is strange, I can honestly say I don't care.

Whats a space siege? ;)

I'd say the answer to that question is kind of like the answer to "who's the sucker in this poker game?"*

Well I certainly ain't pre-ordering then.

It's probably a good idea to get as many people to pre-order as possible (hey Rorie, any idea when Steam will allow pre-orders? Or is that Sega's call?) As publishers really pay attention to those stats. I imagine the only real reason Sony's happy with Heavy Rain is because of the large number of pre-orders.

Yeah, Alpha Protocol's the big one for Obsidian, and since it's also multiplatform, PC preorders numbers will actually have a big impact.

Does anybody really care about Space Siege, anyway?

That's kind of odd that they removed the pre-order. I got mine back in September.

The main reason why Sony should be happy about Heavy Rain is that it's a PS3-only game with critical acclaim that might finally move some hardware. The software sales are icing on the cake.

Pre-order bonuses are stupid and need to die.

It doesn't count unless they were Dragon Age branded M&Ms :shifty:

I haven't encountered a good many people willing to pay $360 for the privilege of playing Heavy Rain. I'd say that's a minority even in the people who actually know what the game is.

Does anyone know if this will be the same pre-order/CE for EB Games Australia? I pre-ordered the game on Saturday but they could not tell me what was the pre-order bonus or what was in the CE. I did it anyway just to get the numbers up.

EA/Bioware is there a difference?

That's fallacious reasoning. People generally don't buy the PS3 for a single game. They often do buy it so they can play a game knowing they'll be able to play many others as well, however.

Three words for you my friend GOD OF WAR.

I'd say a major chunk of people buy it because it's the best blu-ray player on the market - the fact that it can also play games, some of them good, a few of them exclusive, is an added bonus.

I belong to this group.

You're a cheery wee bugger, Nep. Have I ever said that?

It's a unique game that's only available on their system, they are going for game enthusiasts who only have a 360 or PS2. I'm sure it'll get them a few more sales.

If that were the case Sony would be slitting their wrists.

PS3's are sold at a loss. Buying a PS3 for a single game is not great for Sony, it's very bad for Sony. They need to sell other stuff (games, extra controllers etc) to break even on the console side of the ledger.

You won't buy it just to play a single game, that game is like a gateway game.

The point is that not selling them is much worse than selling them, Microsoft started breaking even with 360 sales just last year IIRC.

360 isn't even close to breaking even.

I guess you're right, they are still closer than Sony, though.

My other points stand.

I was under the impression that, unlike Microsoft, Sony at least claims that their individual consoles are not sold at a loss. Their economic problems are due to other parts of SCEE not delivering :/

Edit: Probably means "manufactured". I'm guessing that info does not account for R&D costs.

Here's a short article about that.

Sony's in for the long haul.
