This means that it will be impossible to run a service like Flickr or YouTube or Blogger, since hiring enough lawyers to ensure that the mountain of material uploaded every second isn't infringing will exceed any hope of profitability. this would also mean the end of smaller isp's. i would end up missing youtube, probably, but the rest of social media sites doesn't really appeal to me. * That ISPs have to cut off the Internet access of accused copyright infringers or face liability. This means that your entire family could be denied to the internet -- and hence to civic participation, health information, education, communications, and their means of earning a living -- if one member is accused of copyright infringement, without access to a trial or counsel. this violates civil rights (and the constitution i guess?). i'll be surprised if they can force this through in the EU. finland actually has a law now that says that the internet is a basic human need like food or shelter. maybe we'll get finnternet? * That the whole world must adopt US-style "notice-and-takedown" rules that require ISPs to remove any material that is accused -- again, without evidence or trial -- of infringing copyright. This has proved a disaster in the US and other countries, where it provides an easy means of censoring material, just by accusing it of infringing copyright. see above. this in my view would mean the end of internet as a single worldwide network. we'd get many smaller networks with different rules. * Mandatory prohibitions on breaking DRM, even if doing so for a lawful purpose (e.g., to make a work available to disabled people; for archival preservation; because you own the copyrighted work that is locked up with DRM) isn't this illegal already? anyway this would be impossible to enforce so why bother? the cost would be far greater than what they'd make in fines, mandatory or no. I don't wish to sound complacent about this move, but being denied a paid service rarely requires a court case. If a bar doesn't like the look of you, out you go. If your manners aren't up to scratch, bye bye restaurant. I've seen a man thrown out of a movie theatre for smelling too much. So don't kid yourself about this being struck down in court. I think I would like this future.. gasia sounds like gay-sia lol There was a time when I questioned the ability for the schizoid to ever experience genuine happiness, at the very least for a prolonged segment of time. I am no closer to finding the answer, however, it has become apparent that contentment is certainly a realizable goal. I find these results to be adequate, if not pleasing. Unfortunately, connection is another subject entirely. When one has sufficiently examined the mind and their emotional constructs, connection can be easily imitated.
