Humodour Posted July 13, 2008 Posted July 13, 2008 For me personally, if I had to buy a second copy of the game to get all the enhanced features and content, I wouldn't even have to think twice. Hmm sounds like it's worth me buying.
Pidesco Posted July 13, 2008 Posted July 13, 2008 The Witcher's EE is free for people who already own the game. This info was in the first announcement for the EE and as such, has always been known. This info was in the first announcement for the EE and as such, has always been known. I don't see where all these doubts are coming from. I was under the same assumption but I went over to the forums last time, that did not appear to be a foregone conclusion. I was somewhat surprised. However, as a caveat, I don't go those forums very often so its possible I missed some aspect of the discussions. Anyway, I am still hoping its free for those of us who own the game. Hmm sounds like it's worth me buying. I hate saying "yes, it is" to statements like that. lol Everybody's tastes are different. Check out some reviews. Its not a perfect game. In some ways it is kinda primitive, for example, you can't jump and your feet always kind of roll along the ground, so you can't climb certain slopes or embankments, you have to kind of go around them. But for me personally, its positives far outweigh its negatives. I've ha a brutal itch to play it again for the last couple months, but I'm forcing myself to wait for the enhancements. Redfield Posted July 13, 2008 Posted July 13, 2008 Strange, I thought I clicked on a thread titled "Dragon Age". Must've clicked on a Witcher thread by mistake.

newc0253 Posted July 13, 2008 Posted July 13, 2008 (edited) It was a poor Diablo clone with bland characters a Diablo clone? to make that comparison, either you can't have played the Witcher or you can't have played Diablo. either that, or you had surgery and the surgeons mistakenly contacted your trachea with your lower colon, and that's the reason that you're talking completely out of your ass. btw, i get that some folk didn't enjoy the witcher. fine, to each his own. but to compare Witcher with Diablo ain't comparing like with like, other than in the minimal sense of both are CRPGs. apart from that, it ain't even apples and oranges. it's more like apples and frakking brazil nuts. you've got to have rocks in your head to confuse the two. Meshugger Posted July 13, 2008 Posted July 13, 2008 The witcher sucked. And that scenerio if you choose to save the witch you got to bang her which was my main goal in the game. Only thing that kept me playing throughout the first city. But not enough for the second. You played it wrong. You could sleep with her before making the choice in question. The moral of the story is, the more Dragon Age resembles The Witcher, the better IMO. Spider Posted July 13, 2008 Posted July 13, 2008 But even with that, there's no denying it's brilliant, believable, and distinct. Oh yes, there is. Deny, deny, and well, ok then. It is distinct. But as far as brilliant and believable goes? Not so much. It had some moments where it was pretty good, but there was just so much filler that it dragged story progression down to a crawl. The combat was ok, but nothing spectacular. And character progression is almost completely meaningless, because you get so many skill points you get to max most everything anyway. Every normal person Ive ever talked to thought the Witcher stank, so I dont trust you. And for those who like Gothic, like mkreku, I trust your opinions even less than Volos " I liked Gothic 3 and don't care much for The Witcher. So does this mean you'll get interested in in TW now?
Slowtrain Posted July 13, 2008 Posted July 13, 2008 And character progression is almost completely meaningless, because you get so many skill points you get to max most everything anyway. That bothered me a bit too. Early on I was really careful in choosing how I distributed my talents. I ws under the impression that once I reached level 10 I would receive silver talents instead of bronze and any skill I hadn't developed through the early levels would be unlockable from level 10 on. I was quite surprised when at level 10 I received silver talents + the bronze talents. At that point I realized that skill choice was really artificial since I would be able to max them all eventually. That kinda bummed me out a bit. I like it when you really have to pick and choose your skills and for every choice you make there are 2 or 3 you leave behind for good. Not a hideous problem, but I would have prefered a slightly more stingy talent alotment. Notice how I can belittle your beliefs without calling you names. It was a Diablo clone, in that the heart of the gameplay is mouse-based hack and slash (only the Witcher managed to suck what little fun was in that dynamic with its red light / green light "enhancement") which moves the story forward. It's just that the story was admittedly more ambitious than any other Diablo clone. But the character of Geralt only really seemed to gain color when his nethers were getting bloodflow. Then you had the NPCs, who were either sluts, or idiots, or both. Which makes for a vaudeville routine, not a compelling setting. I'm not saying I don't like the Witcher (even though I plainly don't) I'm saying The Witcher lacked good design. I couldn't find a single thing about the game that warranted praise. The combat was tiring, the character development system was (as has been pointed out) broken, the story was stretched over endless bouts of grind and reliant upon thin characterization and terrible, awful, no-good very bad writing (some parts required prior knowledge of the setting through novels and the like), the choices were there but without any characters to give a **** about there was no tension, only annoyance after the fact, the quests were 98% collection-based, since there's no real dialogue system to speak of outside of some paltry minigames (and the drinking minigame encourages more grinding so you can create detox potions! yay!). The inventory system just sucked. Also, a quick-travel of some kind between safe areas would've been nice. I'm not even going to get into the blatant pandering and misogyny of the tit-card aspect. Join me, and we shall make Production Beards a reality!
~Di Posted July 14, 2008 Posted July 14, 2008 Yikes. The DA thread turned into a Witcher thread. No biggie. I liked the Witcher a lot, much to my own surprise. Gerald was such a cool character that I forgot all about my sulk at not being able to play a female. I just hopped on Gerald's shoulder (like I did with Nameless One) and engrossed myself wtith the game, which was really fun for me overall. There was a few design decisions I found slightly annoying, but not enough to override the interesting story and combat that was actually rather exhiliarating! I'm really surprised at how many people didn't like it. And Volo... why would you compare The Witcher with KOTOR of all things? I don't get it. Could you clarify what you meant, please?
Dark_Raven Posted July 14, 2008 Posted July 14, 2008 The Witcher = manwhore game. No wonder they went out of business. Hades was the life of the party. RIP You'll be missed.
