March 24, 200817 yr Will we see the ressurection of classic trademark, The Broken Dreams Cafe, in the game? Will we see a crushed whale and a bowl of petunias in the Derelict or at LV-426? What about a squad of space marines happend to be from a Corps by the name of "Knights of Camelot", under the mission codenamed "Holy Grail" being led by Sergeant Arthur? Will we encounter an extremely depressed and pesimmistic Synthetic by the name of "Marvin"? An experimental H.O.L.Y hand grenade by developed by the Marines? A bridge being guarded by a rogue AI sentry gun that requires the player to answer three questions in order to pass safely with the option of frying its hardware by asking "African" or "European" swallow? Will there be a Colony base of AAAaaargghh? A crashed derelict ship that eerily resembles the Enterprise? ect ect. That was what made Fallout series so much fun to explore as well as knowing the Devs has a sense of humour.
March 24, 200817 yr Yes the same sorry sense of humour that makes me laugh at parties AND NO-ONE ELSE. Seriously though. Your idea has my backing. I particularly like the idea of the Marines squad. I'm thinking a shoulder patch of a grail cup, and of course the marines would have grail knight name patches. But you'd basically not notice them unless you knew to look. I just spent ages drawing teh shoulder patch I had in mind, and then discovered I haven't any means of sharing it! Damn me all the way to hell! "It wasn't lies. March 24, 200817 yr you could "modernize" the names a bit too to make it more inconspicuous lance instead of lancelot, percy instead of percival, etc etc when your mind works against you - fight back with substance abuse!
March 24, 200817 yr That was what made Fallout series so much fun to explore as well as knowing the Devs has a sense of humour. Hmm. I can't say I agree with that. It got pretty out of hand in Fallout 2. Although Aliens is a horror/action franchise, there's still a surprising amount of humor in it -- especially in Aliens (and to a lesser extent, in Resurrection). But that humor isn't the sort that you're describing. I'm not sure it would fit. twitter tyme
March 24, 200817 yr Aliens more humorous than Resurrection? Really? Resurrection was directed by the Delicatessen guy. Wasn't there a line about Weyland-Utani being bought out by Wal-Mart? What about when the general picks out a piece of his brain and starts drooling? Aliens lacked sight gags. Listen to these gems: Annalee Call: Jesus Christ, Johner, what do you put in this ****, battery acid? Johner: Just for color. Ripley: Who do I have to **** to get off this boat? Johner: I can get you off. Maybe not the boat. Johner: What's burning? Vriess: Us! Johner: ****! You're right! Ah, Ron Perlman. Actually, when you think about it, Alien 3 was a poor imitation of Alien 1 and Alien Resurrection was a gonzo imitation of Aliens. March 24, 200817 yr Jeunet is pretty darn funny, yes. I've only seen the first Alien, though, so I can't really comment on comparisons. I will say that the first one didn't really have any humour. It might have got out of hand in FO2, and certainly some like FO1 more because it had better atmosphere, but I loved finding all the easter eggs in FO2. There are more subtle but equally great ways to put them in games and I think Aliens can accommodate that. Let's Play: Icewind Dale Ironman (Complete) Let's Play: Icewind Dale II Ironman (Complete) Let's Play: Divinity II (Complete) Let's Play: Baldur's Gate Trilogy Ironman - BG1 (Complete) Let's Play: Baldur's Gate Trilogy Ironman - BG2 (In Progress)
March 25, 200817 yr Author Yup. Subtlety would work best that requiring either players perform hard core exploration or nerd core observation in every single room and people they come across. Walsingham and Shryke's idea is along of the lines of subtlety without over doing it. Edited March 25, 200817 yr by Zoma
March 25, 200817 yr well, Walshies idea really, i just put in my two cents when your mind works against you - fight back with substance abuse!
March 26, 200817 yr I guess I better take out that secret code that turns facehugger eggs into actual easter eggs...sigh. The study of history is a powerful antidote to contemporary arrogance. It is humbling to discover how many of our glib assumptions, which seem to us novel and plausible, have been tested before, not once but many times and in innumerable guises; and discovered to be, at great human cost, wholly false.--Paul Johnson

March 27, 200817 yr Hmm. I can't say I agree with that. It got pretty out of hand in Fallout 2. Thank you. I found some of the stuff quite funny in itself, but it was absolutely way to obvious at times. That kinda stuff can be fun on replays, but I still remember thinking wtf is going on when I ran into the Cafe of Broken Dreams, the Holy Grail bridgekeeper and some other thing I don't remember at the moment on my first playthrough of the game. I really didn't care much about it to tell the truth. I actually find Resurrection similar in that respect. Some of it is funny in itself, but I don't think it particularly fits in particularly well with the franchise. I can't remember the humor in Aliens to well, but wasn't it mostly confined to how the marines interacted with each other? I think that's fine as it's believable in itself (though I tend to not like that kinda "military tough guy banter", but that's not the issue here). Alien Resurrection had these visual things, like the humorous look on the General dudes face when he picks up part of his brain from the back of his skull, or the faces the scientist does up against the glass when looking at the alien on the other side. That type of visual humor is a bit off-beat in Alien I feel. Listen to my home-made recordings (some original songs, some not): http://www.youtube.c...low=grid&view=0
March 29, 200817 yr Alright, I admit it did get a little out of hand in Fallout 2. But better too far than not far enough! "It wasn't lies. March 29, 200817 yr Some of them were well done, didn't even feel too far out of place. I liked the Cafe of Broken Dreams and I didn't mind the "Bridge Keeper". Somehow, he just fit into the fallout setting. The rest less so, Knigts from BOS going clippety clop, crashed Star Trek shuttles, exploding whales etc. Just too silly. An easter egg should be something not obvious “He who joyfully marches to music in rank and file has already earned my contempt. He has been given a large brain by mistake, since for him the spinal cord would surely suffice.” - Albert Einstein

March 29, 200817 yr Tosh! I say bury them in out of the way places like in Deus Ex.
