Duke Nukem Forever

This is what I posted on Kotaku about it:

What amazes me more than anything is that some people actually seem to care. I don't mean care in the sense that I care. I care because there's a cultural facet to its near permanent delay. Think of all the websites and jokes devoted to its delay that will become defunct.

No, I mean that some people actually seem interested in buying the game. Who are these people? Why aren't they hospitalized?

Many elderly care homes offer in-house medical services these days. :*

I admit to remembering nothing about this game other than its famous non-existence. Is it going to be an RPG?

First person shooter. A member of a series of FPS games that is notorious for being very macho and crude. Not exceptionally violent, but having evil pigs dressed as cops and lots of strippers.

It wouldn't shock me if it was.

Also a series of FPS games that had its last entry debut just after the Kennedy assassination.

Why is Jeremy Soule wasting his talent with this game?

Also, this game is ridiculous.

Would it be awesome if they put up the trailer only for it to turn out to be rickroll?

And here I thought DN4 was just kind of some tax write off.

DN3 was actually my favorite shooter for a long time. It was one of the first games, along with Mechwarrior 2, that I first played in high res. High res at that time being 640*480. It had pretty good multiplay with the freeze ray and shrinker and the pipe bombs and trip mines.

Notice how I can belittle your beliefs without calling you names. It's a useful skill to have particularly where you aren't allowed to call people names. It's a mistake to get too drawn in/worked up. I mean it's not life or death, it's just two guys posting their thoughts on a message board. If it were personal or face to face all the usual restraints would be in place, and we would never have reached this place in the first place. Try to remember that.

I actually hope this game is released soon. I think I'd like to play a shooter that is comical, violent and has bad one liners. I think it'd be a nice change of pace from recent shooters.

Also Strippers in Hi-def couldn't hurt.

Because the three first Duke Nukem games were beyond awesome?

Or are you referring to those strange people who have been on the 3DRelams DNF forum for years without any news on the game still being in developement?

No, I'm referring to people who are no longer teenagers aching to see boobies and excited by any "Doom clone" that comes to market. They might have been awesome for their time, but that time is long past.

The first two games were platform games and the third game had a notably good level design and atmosphere, so chanting "doom clone" is rather strange especially because the universe in which the game is set is notably different and only the basic design is the same.

About the for their time stuff: well what games aren't dated by now except the ones that have been recently realesed? Would you behead me just for hoping that the new DN game is as good as the first three?

"Doom clone" is an old term used for just about any FPS game at all. It is an outdated term, however it is appropriate because at the time Duke Nukem 3D was released the term was still used and Duke Nukem as a design is just as dated as the term.

Nice attempt at making yourself a martyr. Nobody's talking beheading. However if you start getting excited over Pong 2, we should rightly have you checked out by a professional. The game simply does not hold up without nostalgia. Edited by Tale
