Xard
Wait, didn't Valve actually do Half-LIfe 1 with Source? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Yes, but it wasn't as complete a conversion as this Black Mesa thing. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Ah, ok How can it be a no ob build. It has PROVEN effective. I dare you to show your builds and I will tear you apart in an arugment about how these builds will won them. - OverPowered Godzilla (OPG)
Sturm
I played mein Half Life on PS2 I think, or maybe I had the original? How boring is Xen? Does it ever finish? Fighting large head crabs much? Blue Shift was just a waste of time, it finished when HL1 was basically, only just beginning, but then opposing force was quite good.
metadigital
"Well, I guess if you didn't like the first one enough to think it's worth replaying, then the updated graphics aren't going to entice you, now, are they?" I liked it quite a lot, but I played it once already. Just changing the graphics is en't getting me excited. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Well, I guess if you didn't like the first one enough to think it's worth replaying, then the updated graphics aren't going to entice you, now, are they? Wait, didn't Valve actually do Half-LIfe 1 with Source? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Black Mesa is quite possibly the best-known and most-anticipated modification for Half-Life 2. For those of you who've been in cryostasis for the last 2 years, Black Mesa aims to faithfully recreate the entire Half-Life game on Source. Slowtrain
I don't see any reason to get excited about remaking an old fps with better graphics. I mean, all fps games are for the most part are graphical enhancements of the same gameplay that's been around for years. If we now have FEAR, why do we care about a remake of HL? edit: I could understand remaking Deus Ex with much superior graphics since DX was one of those fairly rare games that is never really duplicated. But HL? Weird. Edited January 4, 2007 by CrashGirl Notice how I can belittle your beliefs without calling you names. Pop
If we now have FEAR, why do we care about a remake of HL? What. Seriously though, there was more suspense in the Blast Pit than in all of FEAR put together. That having been said, a lot of people regard BGtutu as being a step up from the original game (especially when one further modifies it) what's the difference here, really? We could get the same effect. Join me, and we shall make Production Beards a reality!

And while you may have found suspense in the original HL, how much suspense is going to be in the remake since you've already been there, done that. Duke Nuke'em 3d might be worth a remake though. Oh wait, we have to wait for Duke 4 first, don't we? Nevermind. Blergh, that "Hound Eye" looks like my dogs "Brown Eye" when shes in the back yard taking a dump. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> lol. Nice. I would sig that G1 if it had more context. Sweet. Edited January 4, 2007 by CrashGirl Notice how I can belittle your beliefs without calling you names. alanschu
I can still replay the original Half-Life and have a good time. The only part of the game I find lacklustre, even today, is Xen.

The only part of the game I find lacklustre, even today, is Xen. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I got to the Nihilus (or whatever the giant floating baby thing is) and killed it, and it just sat there looping a death animation forever. Thus I got 99% of the game done before it bugged out <_< I didn't get to the ending until several years later. Duke Nuke'em 3d might be worth a remake though. Actually, they kind of did remake it. Turned all the sprites into Quake 2-esque polygons. I didn't think it was very good. Join me, and we shall make Production Beards a reality! Meshugger
This could very well turn out to be the best fps this year. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Yup. Boomer
Awesome, I tried to play the original in order to get the backstory of HL2, but the graphics were just too ugly to play. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Okey. First of all. Half-life is the best game ever. And where you get that the graphics are ugly I dont understand. Sure, it's not as cool as Unreal Engine 3. But it's still awsome. What graphic settings did you use? 640x480,software mode? I played like that for about 3 months because my graphic card burn up ( ). And I must say. It looks great still in that mode. Todays games look really ****ed up when you play on lowest settings. Try F.E.A.R for example. It looks like somebody puked on it. While Half-life with lowest settings just gives you a nostalgic feeling and looks OK. I play games that use the HL engine still today. Counter-Strike, HL: Deathmatch, The Specialists. Although I play them in 1280x1024 and OpenGL and It looks really amazing. And it also sounds like you are person who only goes for graphics and not gameplay. Half-life kicks most other FPS these days. So, beat it.

Pidesco
Half-life is not the best game ever. It's isn't even the best FPS ever. It's arguably the best game of 1998, but if you ask me even that is pushing it. Edit: Half-Life is not the best game of 1998, gaming press be damned. Starcraft Total Annihilation Rainbow Six Thief Grim Fandango Fallout 2 Baldur's Gate These are all 1998 PC games. Plus, Unreal is also a 1998 game and its graphics kicked the pants off Half-Life's graphics Edited January 4, 2007 by Pidesco "My hovercraft is full of eels!" - Hungarian touristI am Dan Quayle of the Romans.I want to tattoo a map of the Netherlands on my nether lands.Heja Sverige!!Everyone should cuffawkle more. The wrench is your friend. Tale
Half-Life = Best Game Ever Right after FF VI, FF VII, FF Tactics, Suikoden II, and maybe even Suikoden V. And the first Soul Reaver game was awesome, too. Baldur's Gate II fits in here somewhere. "Show me a man who "plays fair" and I'll show you a very talented cheater." karka
Of course, everyone has their own best games list. When it comes to FPSs, No One Lives Forever and AvP2 are my fave. So, if you say, "Hey HL beats them all", I don't argue with you.

Hell Kitty
Last time I tried playing the original HL, many years ago now, it was so silky smooth that it gave me motion sickness if I played it more than a couple minutes. If the game was fresh in my mind then I wouldn't bother with this mod, but I'll likely play it because I can barely remember HL. The same goes for all my games. Do the people saying "but you've already played it" never replay any games? Oh, and Thief is just the bee's knees, baby. Anyone who thinks otherwise is just plain wrong. Hell Kitty
You start fighting the undead. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> The undead play a part in the first and third game, but they aren't the focus. I think they only make a brief appearance in the second game if they even appear at all. I prefer the urban missions much more than caverns and ruins and whatnot, which is why my favourite is Thief 2.
