The Basketball Diaries

I had always pointed towards this movie to trump Leo over Brad Pitt in the I probaly shouldn't be but I am acting department, but after seeing this again I'm not sure what to think. Well, atleast he didn't try a British accent in this one.

People laugh when I say that I think a jellyfish is one of the most beautiful things in the world. What they don't understand is, I mean a jellyfish with long, blond hair.

Watched Casino Royale. It's a great film, I like the way it parodies (e.g. Bond swimming in the sea) and even re-interprets the common elements of a Bond film using the prism of other recent films in the general genre, to produce a film that has evolved into a "modern" action thriller.

I also liked that the film took pains to create a plot that almost seems not to have a beginning or and end, and use technology to create a "timeless" backdrop: it could be any time in the last few decades,or even the next few.

In other words, it is a Bond film in name only, and it is the better for it. I always like a new actor playing the lead: the producers actually have to make a good film.

The Masons already believe in this, they have their own Bible and lore.

:ermm: Who told you that?

Double Indemnity 1944 - Film Noir at it's finest. Edward G. Robinson steals the show.

Film historians must see this, and make sure to delve into the special features on the DVD. Great Stuff!

Love that film. One of only 2 films where Fred MacMurray played against type and was not the wholesome "Disney dad." Which makes it one of only 2 Fred MacMurray films that are interesting to watch. (Not coincidentially, the other, The Apartment, is also directed by Billy Wilder.)

Anyhow, I saw Stranger than Fiction this weekend. Worth seeing. Ferrell is very good in a mostly understated role (there's a tiny bit of his traditional wackiness, but it's all appropriate for the character). Emma Thompson is also excellent as a neurotic, chain-smoking, death-obsessed author (she also narrates). Some creative directing, too. I only wish that the film's main themes weren't quite so banal and overdone. (Live life to the fullest, yada, yada, yada.)

How did you watch that in 9 minutes??

I didn't, I just forgot to add it to my previous post. :)

I have already seen four movies today, though. :"> :geek:

Glengarry is a good film though. If for nothing else than being able to get the character of "Gil" on The Simpsons... and the Star Wars parody of the Alec Baldwin watch scene.

Al Pacino's performance was enjoyable to me as I like to believe that he was parodying all his post 1970's acting.

I just saw Silent Hill ...

now that.. is.. a scary movie! but I was totally absorbed in the story - I could never play any of the games (they were too creepy) and the film had the same horror-effect on me .. my concious mind was lying in a fetal position on the floor mumbling to itself "make it stop... make it stop" ..

Best horror movie I've seen - or at least the only horror movie that actually made me feel afraid..

8/10

^First horror movie that I wasn't even remotely creeped out by. I admit it was very atmospheric(the ash rain first time, the darkness, the church) and had disgusting scenes aplenty(all pyramid head ones, otherworld is born, the revenge scene), distusting in a good way, but never scary.

You know, I was supposed to be dusting off the Romanian manual for my semestrial exam (which is something like 25% of my final grade) and gawping at it till my eyes got all misty and bleeding, but I had this mystical epiphany and just watched Spinal Tap.

in retrospect it wasn't as creepy .. but when the first alarm went off I was literally biting my nails..

and the scenery really made the film what it was/is .. beautiful really - much like the in the games..

Yeah, the huge contrast of beauty and utter disgust that gets warped so that you can't separate any longer is one of the main drives of the games. And it's carried through by graphics, by music, by text and by literally every aspect of the experience. That's why the games are so dear to so many.

Really, I thought the movie was pretty much spot on what kind of movie adaptations we should be seeing. Not awful drole.
