Top 10 Most Overrated Bands

he programmed the bass lines.

He played that show in the Raiders tailgate lot with them too. The documentary (or as I like to call it "****-umentary") showed how bad he wanted to be in the band. He would have done what Jason was sick of doing: fellating James and Lars' egos.

everyone's a critic and most people are DJs

BTW, Metallica recently accounced that Bob Rock will not be producing their next album and that they are working on a new one.

Rollingstones are overrated.

Those old fossiles need to call it quits. They should have retired way back in the seventies even.

Completely disagree. If you're a rock fan, it's hard not to appreciate their new album. I'm not some Stones' nut either.

Over-rated: Gorillaz

Who is their new one? I heard Rick Rubin was going to produce the new one, but there's rumours about Rick Rubin producing everything these days. I wouldn't be surprised if he'd produce a new Beethoven.

I'm curious about Rob Trucan'tspellhislastnameio's bassing.

When I read the thread title the first band to come to mind was U2... which wasn't on that list. I totally agree with Audioslave and Coldplay though.

Exactly.

The Beatles are the most underhated band ever.

I love The Beatles more every year. What a band they were. Abbey Road and Revolver are phenomenal. Sgt Pepper I find a tad overrated, but there are some great songs on it.

Disclaimer: I'm not sure this thread necro is for real, but I do have opinions, especially on The Beatles, so why not.

The Beatles are a group that is somewhat difficult to judge from a modern perspective, especially, and here comes the largest problem, if you only know them from the overplayed songs that are on the radio all the time. It's hard to fault anyone who only knows Let It Be, Yesterday and Yellow Submarine (and, maybe, to a much lesser extent, Hey Jude) to think them overrated. It also takes some knowledge of modern music history to appreciate how and why they became the phenomenon they were and how they shaped the music of their time and beyond.

Helter Skelter, for instance, had a Led Zeppelin like sound before Led Zeppelin released their first album, among many other things. Helter Skelter is just not really a song you run into all too much, at least in my experience of being subjected to various radio stations and music TV shows over the years.

Then there is, of course, the group having both John Lennon and Paul McCartney. One can think of their body of work what they want, but there's no denying that the group's been blessed with not one, but two songwriting prodigies. It says pretty much everything that a songwriter like George Harrison, who is by all accounts, really good at his craft, is overshadowed so much by the two. He created, by all accounts, really good music even with The Beatles, but very much so after they broke up, but he's still "just" George Harrison, if you know what I mean.

That alone is reason enough to not consider them overrated no matter how much you may not like their music. Calling The Beatles overrated is a bit of an edgy take that a much younger verison of myself may or may not have expressed in the past. It's a bit akin to calling Mozart overrated simply because he was massively popular and created delightful melodies and pieces. One might not like Mozart's music - but saying he is overrated is a silly edgelord take by people who listen to Krzysztof Penderecki to feel good.

Having said all that, do I like The Beatles? No, I don't. That's fine, because really, I don't have to. Would the music I enjoy exist without them? Yeah, probably not, or at least not in the same form it does today.

No mind to think. No will to break. No voice to cry suffering.

I find it hard to make a top 10. May have something to do with finding any band formed after 1987 overrated, if they are rated at all 🤔

(note, there are rarely any absolute rules and if trying really hard, I am sure I could dig up exceptions)

Surprised, Vimy Ridge would be low hanging fruit. But the jingoistic crap is tiresome.

Wonder if they'll do an Epic Fury song

No clue, I was trying to be funny, I did a cursory google and nothing obvious popped up. All I know about Sabaton is this song.

I think FM is overrated.

I really liked the Beatles when I was 12-20. I mean, it was the late 70's/80's, they were still a cultural thing or something, in many circles. White Album was probably my favorite, but I no longer listen to them now/for years. I think they are more remembered because of the influences they had on popular/radio US music and youth culture for a long time, just like Elvis, or whoever else. They've become more emotional myth than reality, even if some of their records/songs were actually very good. In today's social media culture, it's just like the notion that "movie stars are dead" - it's all too spread apart. Every person in a group of100 ppl may have 20 favorite bands that the other 99 have never heard of.

Over-rated just means you personally don't like them/dont' get the fuss. Nothing wrong with that.
I mean, at this point in my life, in some ways I think Robert DeNiro/Al Pacino/others are over-rated. They made some great movies/had some great roles, that I very much enjoyed, but still over-rated in movie-history. p
