I just browsed through the E3 site and noticed that Lucasarts have hired two booths. While one is most surely for the "An empire at War" RTS-game, could the second be KotOR III?

 

(And it's not Episode III, it's released prior to E3)

Well I suppose they could rush a KOTOR3 out for Christmas 2005. Hope they don't though. A fully completed and polished third instalment would be nice...

 

Besides, the engine is showing its age enough already. Give the Xbox any more to do and it'll explode :- I really think KOTOR3 deserves a new/revamped engine and to be targeted to the Xbox2 instead...

I think (and hope) that Lucasarts and Obsidian learned their lesson with this game. 1. Don't cut out any scenes...and then leave them in the game for people to find them. <_< 2. Get a better ending.

I think they should do KotOR 3 in six months! And then the PC and NPCs could just be squares, and there shouldn't be any story at all.... just random exploration! :ermm:

 

 

No seriously, KotOR 3 should have at least 2 years of development... I wouldn't mind 3 years cause then it would be completely finished and bugs would be minimum! I don't mind if Obsidian gets it, but they have to take their time and do it in 2-3 years....... if LA allows it! <_<

It should have a completely new engine, cause the one in KotOR 2 would be extremely outdated in a year or so! I wouldn't mind if KotOR 3 ended up looking like Dragon Age from Bioware!

 

You know.... Bioware has a 'New Project'........ you hoping what I'm hoping?!?

Unless they use a brand new engine; it better not take 3 years.

The people at Lucasarts learned it a few years ago, and then forgot it after Jedi Knight: Dark Forces 2.

Huh? Inform me what I missed with JK: DF 2, perhaps I'll want to go explore the disk now that you've perked my interest. Did they cut endings out of JK 2, and JK: JA as well?

 

More on topic though, give it two or three years for development of KotoR 3 with a new engine and make it for Xbox Next/Xbox 2.

Considering that Obsidian seems to be tagged to develop KOTOR3, and that they are also working on NWN2 AND BG3, they either must have grown tremendously, or I'm guessing that KOTOR3 is not going to be a Xmas 2005 release.

 

Besides, KOTOR3 really needs to bring at least a new graphics engine to the genre. Also, more likely, LA will probably want to wait for the Xbox2, to take advantage of more power, and have a "Must Have" title for the new system as well.

 

Xmas 2006 / Winter 2007 would be my guess.

JK2 had lots of samey corridor running, apparently because they were short of time.

 

I enjoyed Jedi Academy -- played it several times in fact! -- but it had its flaws, too, and some people thought it was terrible...

Well, JK:DF2 was the most advanced FPS at the time and it had a good story.

 

More importantly, however, the cutscenes were made using real, live actors instead of computer graphics. It'd probably be impossible to do something like that these days without taking out character customization, but it would produce higher-quality cutscenes and probably give KotOR 3 (if there is one) a more theatrical feel.

 

I remember being quite disappointed when I learned that the cutscenes in JO were made using the engine. KotOR's engine pulls it off much better, but still, it would be nice if they just stuck us with a character with a set name and use real actors. It would probably be a lot more expensive (which is why LA won't do it), but we'd have less black screens and more slim, mucus-covered lips pressed against each other in the cargo hold.

Uh oh... Live actors, the bane of early CD-ROM games. Live actors are even worse than cheesy CGI cutscenes. I'm damn happy that most cutscenes are made with same game engine as the rest of the game, although best thing is not to use cutscenes at all like in Half-Life 2.

 

I bet we'll see some Episode III games at E3, but not KotOR 3.

did i miss some news announcement on the main page again or something? where exactly did you get it that obsidian is working on baldurs gate 3? :)

I hope not, KOTORIII does not need to be another rush job for the sake of getting it out in time for christmas.

Honestly, it depends. If they hire real talent--like Wing Commander III/IV, it works out pretty nicely. And the Jedi Knight ones weren't bad, IMO.

I think that Obsidian would do a better job even if they only had until Christmas- I loved the Sith Lords (despite the broken ending), and now they more fully grasp what it takes to get the job done.

 

However, I read in this month's Game Informer that KOTOR III is getting an entirely new engine, which suggests that it won't be out in 2005. It also said that Obsidian is developing it, and that the game's story will follow in the path of Revan.

Yeah, some of the scenes were not that good, but most of them were OK and some of them even pretty good. More impressive than the engine cutscenes in JO at any rate, IMO. I still think highly of DF2, too bad that the netcode was so bad. I think I go watch the DS ending FMV now.

How did I manage to forget the Wing Commander series? The cutscenes were a lot better than the movies.

 

Anyway, if Obsidian is making KotOR 3, then they shouldn't start working on it until after NWN2 is out. If they dedicate their whole staff to it, it'll be easier to come up with something good even if it is a rushed job.

The FMV in 5 (Prophecy) was decent too, although not as extensive as 3 and 4 and without dialogue options. Seriously though, how can a game with Luke Skywalker and porn star Ginger Lynn not have good acting? :blink:

Easier for the modders if K3 uses the same engine. KotOR isn't a FPS, graphics just aren't that important, as long as things look right. Which they do right now.

im sure feargus will be hiring new people, especially if they made money off of kotor2. i think eventually theyll want to work on more than one game at a time.
