My position at work might be being eliminated due to the department shifting around but I have an interview for a replacement in the same organization on Thursday and another at an external one in the works (the latter would actually be several steps higher and a decent pay raise so I'm honestly more interested in that, although it also depends on who gives me what offer when). So, while the prospect of possibly being temporarily jobless isn't ideal, things could be worse given the situation and I'm also in a field that is growing rather than shrinking despite the questionable economy and job market.

Besides the appropriateness of "Y" existentially questioning the renaming of itself with its name,  it'd have the benefit that instead of re-branding tweets as xeets, they could just call them yeets which also seems appropriate give what gets thrown up there anymore.

So a few days ago I clicked on a video that I thought was about one thing and turned out it was a "cancer journey" vlog. The person was charismatic and inspirational and I ended up watching the whole video. Anyway the main point is for no reason early this morning I chose turn on my other PC and  check my email, something I haven't done in oh, a couple months.

My brother's - who I haven't seen/talked to in over a year I think (my remaining family and I are not close etc) - plus all the extended family CC'd emails filled my digital mailbox. My niece - she's probably in her late 30's -  apparently has brain cancer. They removed most of the original tumor/doing radiation etc. now but it's still progressing faster than expected/hoped for. 

Life is strangely coincidental - or something - at times.

I was contemplating buying Immortals of Aveum, because hey, action with magic instead of guns, AND I'm a bit of a masochist where I get curious if I could even get it to be playable (without it looking like like a blobby, blurry mess). But then I realized it was EA published/account, so nah, went back to watching TV.

I've been watching a lot of Chinese dramas recently. Either free ones via TencentVideo's YT channel or other streaming services. If they are more recent/modern series - past 2-3 years - with the 24-30 episode format, they've improved a lot. A little over-earnest and long to get to any "point", for me, but more easily digestible or background watchable re: pacing, dialogue and the like. So far I have seen no evidence of any trucks-o'doom, either. I still avoid the c-dramas that have 80, 100+ episodes. I don't have the patience for that.

Edit: oh, hubby's back is about the same. They ruled out the common non-structural/organ stuff, and gave him a low dose round of that prednisone steroid. Plus more chiropractors, therapy on his own. I don't think any of it is an immediate help. He's looking for the magic pill right now, poor sweetie. Could try that steroid injected into his spine next.

I’m currently in Melbourne, trying out some Persian food before flying home in the afternoon. Came down here Tuesday because a friend had bought Evanescence tickets for Wednesday nights concert and offered me one if I would go with her. What kind of friend would I be to not jump on a plane and join her

I’m not really a fan, so I couldn’t tell what was old and what was new. A single slow ballad, that was like half a capella, half slow guitar and one song I recognised at the end, the rest was hard rock/heavy rock/guitar rock/whatever 

I made a few clips on my phone, but I need to get home from the airport before I can convert them to something shareable. Just clips, not full bootlegs. I’ll put them up here later

 

edit: the joojeh I got at the Persian place was awesome. I would be surprised if @Katphood wasn’t familiar with it

 

edit2: My old phone has made some pretty good recordings in the past, but at this concert, it was definitely NOT up to the task. Crappy audio quality which in no way is a reflection of the actual experience (my brain can compensate a bit because I know what it really sounded like)

Guys, I just learned of that new Atari 2600+ (I'd guess some combo of emulation+new hardware).  Supposedly plays old cartridges (not that I have any). It's $130. If I could get Breakout with it, I want one. I mean, look at it, so sexy.

It is (or was, the weekend we just left) that time of year again. Brisbane Riverfire. Low flying jets competing to see who will be the first to ram a bridge, 20 minute long fireworks, 400 drones used to create a giant "LED light show" on the night sky and half a million people on the river bank (499999 others and me). All inclusive resorts are largely similar, so if I had to sort by location it would be Cabo (by a mile), DR, Cancun and Cozumel. Were social butterflies and everyone is already in a great mood so we meet and hang out at the swim up bar with whoever sits next to us.  We were in the adult section of the resort (Ambar): Restaurants and bars in Ambar - Hotels Bahia Principe (bahia-principe.com) and we ate at Portifino x 1 (ok), Limbo x 1 (very good), MEAT x 2 (very good), The Greek x 1 (ok) and Fish Market x 1 (meh).

Went for a walk and we were approached by a cat that seemed like it needed help and started following us. Knocked on a couple of doors and apparently the owner just lets the cat roam the neighborhood freely. I'm glad I don't now have a cat but I feel really bad for that cat and its ****ty owner.

Cats are notorious for adopting new owners if they unhappy, it can happen quickly especially if you feed them.....dont feed them Shady !!!
