Cinema and Movie Thread: I like to remember things my own way.

First movie is just Pocahontas with some space ships. 😄 I watched it two or three times if I remember right (not on my own). My issue with the movie is that it's a bit too long - it starts not bad and even captures my attention for a while, but after half of the movie, it's starting to become a real slog for me.

Will probably watch the 2nd movie at some point, just to see what's up with it, I guess.

I thought the first one was average at best, and haven't really had much interest in seeing the second.  If I did see it, do you think I'd like it better/worse/same than the first?

I would say the same. Do you like whales and water more than trees and birds? That is the big change.

As a parent with kids who don't listen, it was highly entertaining watching Jake Sully try and get his blue kids to listen to him. I'd probably say the character dynamics were better in the sequel.

Disappointed the humans won't win again.

It wasn't really a humans versus na'vi movie. It was really just Jake Sully an family on the run, with a bit of Whale Wars thrown in. I imagine we will get the big Pandora World War once Cameron has established all of the biomes.

There is an entire human city now that was barely covered in the movie, so that will play a part going forward.

Can someone explain to me what the blue Sigourney Weaver is doing floating in a tank. I mean, that's Sigourney's Avatar, and she died ? - or joined the neural network in the trees. I can't remember.

Her human body died, but it was not able to transfer over to the blue version like Jake did. So they kept her in the tank, I guess. She also gave birth, to like, herself? I don't know, don't look too closely at the science and you will probably be happier.

Oh ok, well then the next movie is when they lose.  :p

He will need to drag it out over another 3 movies, I think. 🤣

While I'm sure the next ones won't take quite as long (since they did a lot for the next one already I think), Cameron being Cameron, he'll probably pass away before he finishes the Avatar series.  :shifty:

Sounds like Cameron should work with GW for 40k movies 😄

The reason Michael Caine and Tim Curry are so good in their respective Muppet movies is that Michael Caine treats the Muppets as fellow actors, and Tim Curry treats himself as a fellow Muppet

I like spreadsheets so I kept a spreadsheet of 2022 films I saw in 2022, so here is the list of 2022 films I saw in 2022 in the order in which  I am ranking them.

Everything Everywhere All at Once
Prey
The Valet
Weird: the Al Yankovic Story
Thor: Love and Thunder
Dr Strange and the Multiverse of Madness
Turning Red
The French Dispatch of the Liberty, Kansas Evening Sun
See How They Run
The Princess
Bullet Train
Rosaline
Disenchanted
Hocus Pocus 2
Better Nate Than Ever
Chip n Dale Rescue Rangers
Strange World
Lightyear
Sneakerella
Hollywood Stargirl
Eternals
The King's Man
The Ice Age Adventures of Buck Wild
Pinocchio

There is probs a bit of flexibility in the 'soggy middle', like IDK that The Princess is necessarily better than Bullet Train, everything from Weird: the Al Yankovic Story down to, IDK, Strange World, was kinda dumb and fun which is a good time imo.

Top 3 and bottom 3 are pretty set in stone for me, though.

Also I have, since making this list, seen Glass Onion, and kinda enjoyed it, but since I didn't see it in 2022 it doesn't make the list soz.

How much are non-matinee film ticket theater prices these days, in the USA?

The new Puss n Boots film is getting good reviews -that first one was cute in spots but not that great so this is supposedly leaps above that one- and I was half tempted to try and convince hubby to go to a theater with me. Then I saw it was early-access rent-able. For $25. What happened to $20 early-acess rent price? Is that Amazon or Dreamworks being greedy, or both?

I'm not sure Puss n Boots is worth $25 for at home viewing. >.>

I'm pleased that RRR won a Golden Globe for Best Original Song (Naatu Naatu).  It's not my favorite of the film's original songs but it's a fun one.
If the two stars + others were to do an Oscars stage performance of that dance, I might watch (part of) the Oscars for the first time in years and years (and years). But I won't hold my breath for the Oscars to do something that fun. ;)

Banshees of Inisherin (2022)

One of the best movies of last year, a tragic comedy that shows how an act of petty cruelty can ruin everyone. Absolutely beautiful scenery and the background of the Irish Civil War is used to great effect.

The Wolf of Wall Street (2013)

Much like Goodfellas and Casino, but both funnier and scarier. The scary mostly comes from thinking on how such dip****s can end up wielding such power by several strokes of luck, which is timely given Elon Musk's post-divorce meltdown.

"Akiva Goldsman and Alex Kurtzman run the 21st century version of MK ULTRA." - majestic

"you're a damned filthy lying robot and you deserve to die and burn in hell." - Bartimaeus

"Without individual thinking you can't notice the plot holes." - InsaneCommander

"Just feed off the suffering of gamers." - Malcador

"You are calling my taste crap." -Hurlshort

"thankfully it seems like the creators like Hungary less this time around." - Sarex

"Don't forget the wakame, dumbass" -Keyrock

"Are you trolling or just being inadvertently nonsensical?' -Pidesco

"we have already been forced to admit you are at least human" - uuuhhii

"I refuse to buy from non-woke businesses" - HoonDing

"feral camels are now considered a pest" - Gorth

"Melkathi is known to be an overly critical grumpy person" - Melkathi

"Oddly enough Sanderson was a lot more direct despite being a Mormon" - Zoraptor

"I found it greatly disturbing to scroll through my cartoon's halfing selection of genitalias." - Wormerine

"I love cheese despite the pain and carnage." - ShadySands
