So this is a sequel? Is the first game available on PC or only console?

I got strong Law Abiding Citizen vibe from the footage, and it will be available on PS4 :) So no need to upgrade, yay. The only issue I have, it will be released close to Tales of Arise release date :(

Unfortunately so far console exclusive game. But seeing Yakuza PC treatment lately, it might com to PC at some point as well...

I just checked out the PS store... costs 60€ for the PS4 and 40€ for the PS5...

Nah, I'm good.

I wonder why the Judgment games aren't on PC (yet?). All of the Yakuza games are on PC, minus the weird Japan-only spinoffs, and Judgment presumably uses most of, if not all of, the same tech. They even share maps and other assets. There's no technical reason for the lack of a PC release and it's on both Sony and Microsoft consoles, so there's no exclusivity deal. I would think they'll eventually appear on PC, there's no reason for them not to, but for now it's console only.

Between this and the Shin Megami Tensei 3 remaster, I'll actually have a reason to use my PS4 for the first time in over a year, so there's that.

I agree, their is also no commercial argument based on the huge success of games ported to PC like GTA4 and RDR2

I dont know much about the Judgement games but it must be based on a more complicated technical reason or a resource challenge around developer skills to ensure the software conversion works. I use to get annoyed that PC gamers  had  to wait for games ....how dare they !!!

But now after experiencing the benefits and complete fun of games like RDR2 I dont mind waiting at all as long as I can use it on my gaming rig

The guy in charge of Stadia also left Google/ Alphabet this week, which is step 4 on google's 'product about to be cancelled' checklist.

If When Stadia gets abandoned later this year, it will be the least surprising thing ever. When Stadia was announced, pretty much everybody said "it's destined to fail." Cloud gaming may happen successfully one day, but that day is not today. The internet infrastructure has to be there first and the latency problem needs to be solved, or at least reduced a lot more than it has been so far. You can't put the cart before the horse.

Streamed games mean you can't make mods for them, so I will never touch em.

This, sooo very much this.

Civilization, in fact, grows more and more maudlin and hysterical; especially under democracy it tends to degenerate into a mere combat of crazes; the whole aim of practical politics is to keep the populace alarmed (and hence clamorous to be led to safety) by menacing it with an endless series of hobgoblins, most of them imaginary. - H.L. Mencken

Mods could be applied server-side, but modders would need to have the game client-side to make mods in the first place. Mods could be made so long as cloud gaming wasn't the only way to play said game. Even in that case, it's still an extra hurdle to modding.

Ultimately, as with anything else, money is the bottom line. Let's say the big popular game of the day is Middle-Aged Parchment 7 and Floogle's Cloud Gaming offers it, yet almost nobody plays it on Floogle. Subscriber numbers are dropping quickly. Turns out, Byg Tiday's Floppy Nude mod is super popular on Flexus Mods. Suddenly Floogle announces that mods can be enabled on MAP7, even age-restricted mods because they get age data (along with a whole lot more) from the microchip that came with the COVID-33 vaccine that was administered during Ivanka Trump's second term as PotUS (spoiler!) :shifty:

Floogle

Is it wrong that all I got from that posting was "LOL, Floogle, snort, snuffle, giggle."

If I was really into those smaller indie type games that one is likely to just play through in a day or two, once and then done, I might like a streaming-game sub for that type of thing, if it meant I could play 6 a month for $10 a month or some such.  Maybe.  But I don't play those kind of games.  Even if I can't or don't care to mod something, I've never wanted my ability to play (non-online-MP) games to be dependent on whether or not my internet connection is working.

🤔
... can play as adorable fuzzy creature thing and wear cute/funny hats and helmets (very important!). Can ride/fly on things, flashy combat animations, has a photo mode, enemy design looks fun, loot, quests.  But I have ... doubts.  We've all been fooled before, right?
What I'm hoping for is some sort of weird gameplay mashup of (modern) Fallout-y rpg styling and Borderlands speed but with much more stylized/action combat, or something.  I'll probably wait a few days for first impressions (especially re: initial performance/bugs), but ... I bet I'll end up buying it. If only because of the hats.
