E3 2018 Thread

If you are familiar with the source material it has a lot of clues as to what they could include in-universe.

It both failed to meet expectations and surprised me at the same time. Way more 80's than I was expecting. I thought some of the 90's and beyond cyberpunk influences would be in there. Despite it telling you how impoverished the people are, everyone seemed to be doing pretty well off. It reminds me left-wing radicals that bitch about everything who drop tons of money on tattoos, booze, video games and clothing all the time. All the augmented tech has got to be more expensive that tattoos. I hope the game has more of a cynical tone against the inhabitants of the city, instead it's feeling too much like a yuppie-playground of the future. All those skyscrapers are probably filled with medical scientists and engineers who are paying for all these young people to **** around in the under-city doped up on designer drugs and high-tech augmentation. But... I feel this game will vindicate that demographic instead of turning them into the villainous backdrop that they should be cast as.

I just want to see gameplay though.

There's just not enough there that seperates it from the likes of say Blade Runner or Deus Ex (at least nothing right now). Everything has been done before, in fact the trailer instantly made me think of one of Quantic Dream's earlier games - Omikron: The Nomad Soul (rip David Bowie), which was released back in 1999. I'm thinking that game paved the way for Cyberpunk 2077 (if I'm going by the context of the trailer alone).

I, too, would like to see the gameplay. Hopefully soon!

Just what do you think you're doing?! You dare to come between me and my prey? Is it a habit of yours to scurry about, getting in the way and causing bother?

What are you still bothering me for? I'm a Knight. I'm not interested in your childish games. I need my rest.

Begone! Lest I draw my nail...

It's an mmo, Todd Howard called it softcore survival mmo...

No, it was running on next-gen hardware. Filmed, yes and linear but definitely not pre-remdered. In 5 years, you will see.

What are you one about? They were canned teasers.

If TES6 and Starfield are still on the creation engine, I swear I will blow a gasket. idTech7 better be driving those games to the sky's limits. I hope that Fallout 76 and TES: Blades are basically Bethesda trying to squeeze out as much money off of their old outdated productions pipelines before they adopt id's technology. I can't believe that Zeni aquired some of the best engine designer's in the business not to leverage it across all their studios. I bet Rage 2 is being made just to confirm that idTech operates well in open world environments.

Seems like the TES VI announcement is a sign that Bethesda is breaking out of their alternating between a TES and Fallout games cycle with a 2 1/2-4 year wait between releases. Maybe they've turned into a multi-project studio.

Cyberpunk 2077 looks way more interesting to me than the Witcher games. I loved the somewhat 80's vibe.

Here's hoping the game has a legit character creator, since the trailer "protagonist" isn't exactly doing anything for me.

“Political philosophers have often pointed out that in wartime, the citizen, the male citizen at least, loses one of his most basic rights, his right to life; and this has been true ever since the French Revolution and the invention of conscription, now an almost universally accepted principle. But these same philosophers have rarely noted that the citizen in question simultaneously loses another right, one just as basic and perhaps even more vital for his conception of himself as a civilized human being: the right not to kill.”

"The chancellor, the late chancellor, was only partly correct. He was obsolete. But so is the State, the entity he worshipped. Any state, entity, or ideology becomes obsolete when it stockpiles the wrong weapons: when it captures territories, but not minds; when it enslaves millions, but convinces nobody. When it is naked, yet puts on armor and calls it faith, while in the Eyes of God it has no faith at all. Any state, any entity, any ideology that fails to recognize the worth, the dignity, the rights of Man...that state is obsolete."

They will be using new engines on the new consoles, I believe. Totally different rending tech for Starfield and TES6. I don't believe any of their current projects will tell them anything about the next gen, they will only learn that through developing on the kits directly which is why I believe they will use completely new engines. As said, using totally different rendering techniques in Fallout 76 than in fallout 4 to produce 16x the map while requiring less resources was a good indication, the new gen of upcoming hardware won't require these cutbacks at any rate.

Todd Howard said they have 3 studios now, one in montreal, texas and somewhere else. And those studios probably (most likely) have different teams which is what is enabling them to work on different projects at once.

Cyberpunk, mark my words, it will be the Omikron of this generation. Omikron is still such an incredible game (rip David Bowie) and seems to have the characteristics to which Cyberpunk borrows from - if the trailer isn't misleading, that is.

From everything I see so far from everything Bethesda and then CD Project Red's CyberPunk, Rage 2 probably interests me the most.

The Awesome Advebtures of Captain Spirit also looks great. Meh.

They won't be new engines, they will either be the Creation(Gambryo updated) or idTech engines, compiled to target the new hardware. You don't need to understand the specifics of next-gen hardware to prepare writing code for it, the code describes the generalized mathematics and structure of everything and is optimized around hardware oblivious algorithms for the most part. They'll rely on the compilers provided in the kits to emit the right machine code. Rendering techniques don't really change all that much, mostly new layers of shaders are added over time to refine graphics. Rendering is definitely not the new part to Fallout 76, plus the whole map isn't loaded into either game all the time. It's streamed from disc in subsections. If anything 76 got a lot of work to it's networking code.

Cyberpunk looks like future GTA V. If CRPR's TW3 level of quality is kept in this game, it's gonna be freaking fantastic, no doubt! A softcore mmo'ish Fallout game... How sad. Not gonna touch that. But then again 77>76

No, it's pretty much Fallout 4.5 with 4 player coop. You can play alone, but it is not singleplayer. Guess that's how they get rid of mods and have their perfect money printing machine at hand.

Also, now even Bethesda makes fun of Bethesda releasing Skyrim over and over and over again:
