  1. I don't know why, but the names "Dunning" and "Kruger" spring to mind.
  2. Although as I understand it only one of your proficiencies (the first you pick I think) gets the bonuses of the Devoted subclass, the others get penalties.
  3. I thought Obsidian had gotten rid of the negatives for Paladins and Priests, hence Kind Wayfarers shouldn't have that problem anymore.
  4. True. I like taking on those forest shamblers near the shrine of Galawain at low level for a challenge.
  5. In the current beta spellswords work pretty well. Wizard self buffs are (mostly) very fast cast and their only scaling is with duration hence they're not that much weaker on a multiclassed wizard. Works well with a melee class. I'm currently thinking of playing through Pillars with a tanky Paladin who'll be my main tank in Deadfire. I have a few other ideas too, though it depends on how the beta pans out.
  6. Given the way this thread has gone that's not necessarily a bad thing That said this thread has been highly entertaining.
  7. Yeah I can imagine given a lot of your enjoyment of the game comes from the challenge of hard fights.
  8. I don't. "Evil" options should be more rewarding. It results in an actual roleplaying dilemma i.e. you have to ask yourself whether your character would hurt others for personal gain or not. If it's balanced out then that dilemma disappears since you'll gain either way. If I recall correctly you still get the important ones i.e.
  9. Also how many great works of art were hard by their creators because they never felt they could get them right. Apparently they lacked "vision".
  10. Yeah, Pillars is quite different to Do&D in that regard. Certainly you'd be right if it wasn't. By the way, I don't disagree with you regarding Magranites and Passionate. Even ignoring Durance we don't see much evidence for this being disfavoured in game. As Juodas days, probably just an artefact of every priest requiring two favoured and two disfavoured dispositions.
  11. Yeah, they might implement an portrait importer for custom portraits or they might not, we don't know. Whilst it'd be a nice feature it's not like adding custom portraits is a particularly difficult task so I really don't mind if they don't.
  12. I've got to say, whilst I love PoE I do wonder about the way Obsidian codes this stuff. Surely you have a single master stun function (with variables for duration, accuracy etc.) and then have all weapons and abilities in game that can stun call that stun function. That way, if you decide to change the way stun works you can modify the master stun function and everything else changes easily.
  13. No need to apologise for necroing this thread. I was considering doing the same as I'm interested in seeing how peoples' experiences of the beta are influencing their thinking on this. As to your question: yes, as far as I understand it you'll be given the opportunity to multiclass imported characters. As for custom portraits, I believe the portrait format for Deadfire is the same and you can already add custom portraits in the beta, so I'd assume that you'd simply need to add the appropriate images to your Deadfire directory and then pick your custom portrait when you import. Who knows, Obsidian might even include a portrait importer with the character importer so you don't even have to do that.
  14. My only real objection to limitations on companion multiclassing is that there is at least one, in character, multiclass that I want to do that is probably not going to be available i.e. I'd love to make Eder a Fighter/Priest of Eothas. If he goes the Night Market route in Pillars then this is very fitting for his story, but it looks like he'll be restricted to Fighter/Rogue currently.
  15. But they're the best and most constructive discussions on the internet
  16. The gods don't give +1 to your skills in Pillars either. A priests power comes from their own soul. If an individual priest believes they are acting in accordance with the philosophy of their god then they become more powerful as a priest. This is even demonstrated mechanically in game by the Untroubled Faith talent, which represents a priest who believes that the unfavoured dispositions aren't important. You've only got to look at Durance for a prime example of this. He pretty much tells you that he doesn't act like other Magranites. He also tells you that this is because (in his opinion) other Magranites aren't following Magran's philosophy correctly. Moreover he's in game proof that it's not the gods that makes their priests more powerful since his own god literally cannot see him anymore. As for the priests of Berath supporting Raedric, how many religious figures have supported cruel lords in our own world, either out of weakness or a belief that they can influence them for the better (before you bring up God not giving his priests +1, re-read the two preceeding paragraphs). It has been a while since I've played through Raedric's quest but, as far as I remember, Nedmar essentially tells you that he thinks Raedric is trying to do the best for his people in a difficult time and that he's probably the best of two bad choices (Kolsc being the other). I don't recall him describing Raedric as a good servitor of Berath, but if he did it could be in the same way that cruel lords would often gain the favour of the Church by building big cathedrals and similar. Again, people aren't perfect.
  17. Well, Attributes alone don't make a character build and are arguably not all that important. That said, with a group you definitely don't need high resolve (in fact you don't need it in solo either) and arguably Might and Intellect are the most important attributes for a Chanter. However pretty much any build can beat PotD with a group so go with whatever you enjoy.
  18. The reason is hard to imagine a Christian + Muslim is because they have directly contradictory accounts of the same things, specifically Christians believe Jesus was the son of God (most also believe he was simultaneously one with God, though not all) whereas Muslims believe he was merely a prophet. Meanwhile Eora is demonstrably not monotheistic, and this religions don't need to engage in the same us or them rhetoric since they aren't peddling mutually exclusive stories.
  19. What gave you the idea that Goldpact Knights would agree to every contract, regardless of the terms. They're dedicated to carrying them out once they've agreed to them, but there's nothing to suggest they'll agree to them willy nilly. Also Aggressive is more than simply using violence (otherwise every player would end up with maxed Aggressive disposition). As I understand it, it's violence for its own sake. Raedric's not a priest of Berath: he's someone who's trying to solve the problem plaguing his land, albeit in a terrible way. He brings in Berathian's because he thinks Gilded Vale's previous association with Eothas might have something to do with the curse, but he also brings in animancers who Berathians are generally opposed to (since animancers often interfere with the cycle by creating constructs). He'll try anything. Even if he were a priest of Berath it wouldn't stop him being cruel and passionate. These are disfavoured dispositions yes, but greed is a disfavoured disposition of Christians and yet there are plenty of greedy Christians in the world. People aren't perfect.
  20. Goldpact Knights aren't really a mafia, they are the epitome of mercenaries. Passionate and Aggressive are disfavoured for them because those sorts of emotions get in the way of what they view as important: executing their contracts to the letter. To quote: As for Skaenites: they're plotters. Outwardly they act like good obedient servants whilst inwardly they are filled with hate. Aggressive options don't fit this: they're too overt. Skaenites aren't going to be threatening violence, instead they'll say "yes sir" and then poison their master's dinner.
  21. Agreed. This might not have been the wisest thread to start but I doubt Jojo was trying to start drama.
