  1. Well I'm interested, but (a) still haven't played the original and (b) being bombarded with kickstarters.
  2. I'm not sure the infrastructure is truly ready to support this yet, but it is (IMO) inevitable.
  3. Shouldn't be anything too problematic with "Black Isle Bastards" and an original logo. This isn't just some fan site; need to be cautious since this is Obsidian's official forum. Who says we are named after the Black isle Studios >_> Maybe we are named after, what they are named after: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Black_Isle Do the Black Isle Studios (respectively Interplay) hold the copyright to the name of the peninsula that they are named after? IIRC Black Isle Studios was named after the Black Isle Peninsula in Scotland you reference. So...as long as there's no use of trademarkable logos or calling the group "Black Isle Studios Bastards" I think there shouldn't be a legal issue1 1I am not a lawyer. I do not play a lawyer on tv. This should not be construed as legal advice, much less competent legal advice.
  4. You can email support@obsidian.net for assistance. Posting here will also be read by developers, but if it's a known issue other fans may be able to assist with work arounds. When reporting issues, here or email, be sure to look over this thread for information to provide https://forums.obsidian.net/topic/86274-reporting-issues-useful-information-to-provide/page-1
  5. People were upset that PoE wasn't a D&D clone given that PoE's kickstarter was predicated on the nostalgia for the IE games. I can understand when people who like PoE hear that PoE 2 is changing things and feeling a bit put out that the kickstarter for the sequel is suddenly tossing out the systems of that game while at the same time stressing its continuation nature - they don't even have the 12 years of time and distance from the last game like IE fans did...
  6. However, to be fair, they've already used the Obsidian Order of Eternity and it exists as an entity "in-game". Other than creating a pirate branch, a good argument could exist that having two Obsidian groups seems odd - what is this obsession with Obsidian named groups in Eora? So in that sense I understand the preference to step away from Obsidian with Black Isle. The alternative would be using some synonym for Obsidian (colour: Onyx, Raven, Atramentus; stone - Agate, Chalcedony, Silica) over just using Obsidian. Other ways to tie it back to Obsidian would be to do some sort of weird internal reference that might be more obscure that Black Isle. "The Alpha Sea Agents"? "South Sea Parkas"? "The Ocean Siegers"? "The Always Day Sailors"? "Knights of the Old Valian Republic"? "The Sea POEts"?
  7. Well Fergus named Black Isle and Obsidian, and much (if not all) of the founders of Obsidian came from Black Isle, so it does have a connection to the company. And Black Isle fits into the idea of an archipelago setting. And its a fair argument that was made in the other thread that most pirates are not calling themselves that; one person's Privateer is another Pirate
  8. I had to look it up. I am not a native English speaker and I didn't know that idiom. But now that I know, yeah it's funny I started not to post it afraid you wouldn't get the humor. Glad you were able to.
  9. Ballast of the Black Isle Black Isle Bulwark? Bilge rats of the Black Isle?
  10. is a fair point camorra? guild? ring? conspiracy? kinda like camorra and ring. HA! Good Fun! ps with "ring" instead o' order, perhaps we might see an actual ring in the game. just a thought. Camorra reminds me of all the late 60s and 70s tv shows trying to find alternate words to use instead of "the mob" (most just went with 'Syndicate').
  11. Hahahahahaaaaaa....didn't even notice that in the faux latin. The Black Rock Mariners? Sailors from the Lost Island (Nautae in insulam amissa)? The Lava Born Brood?
  12. You may have to just accept that you'll be unrecognizable. You could say you have to...take it on the chin.
  13. Môr-leidr? Foghlaí mara? (I can't remember which language Engwithan was inspired by)
  14. I think its a great idea, I'm still curious of whether a user added portrait will have the ability to have a user added 'watercolor'
  15. Blanket forts make me think of that one scene in THE SIXTH SENSE.
  16. Of course the 40 hour work week was a way to not have workers doing a 12-20 hour work day. And of course back in the day, if you owned a store, you lived at the store (usually above the store or in a backroom) and were available 24/7 to your small community. It wasn't that different if you were a farmer or other job. That doesn't make 40 hours a week awesome, but just trying to add perspective to it. A lot of theorists in the 20s (IIRC) figured the work week would be 3 days by now (again IIRC).
  17. Robert Z'Dar is one of the few people I'm certain would still be recognizable post "death godlike" makeover.
  18. Weird I'm pretty sure I got the email (can't remember if it showed up in my updater tracking).
  19. Correct, it would be an extreme challenge to pull this off with only having limited facial area. In my honest opinion, I would advise going against it, if you are going to spend all that cash to only have your lower face be somewhat resembled. Although it'd be pretty awesome - if your only good feature was a really, really awesome chin.
  20. I had such a hard time not typing "Stay a while and listen...". It was even going through my head in Deckard Cain's voice.
  21. I would be surprised if Obsidian has not mass email spamming previous backers to come back for reinforcements. This is the first thing i would do, personally. January 28 Kickstarter Update # 110 in fact. Would have sent out via email to anyone getting updated by email and would be in their updates next time they log on.
  22. It was just an example of the Federal government overriding the will of the voters who actually PAY for the schools whose districts they live in. Allowing the governed to have a say in their governance is a radical concept I know. But I don't want this to turn into a discussion on the merits of ID. It was just an example. Looking at YOU aluminiumtrioxid! But you are right about your other point. Somehow all our threads end up being derailed into the pros and cons of socialism. It does get tiring. While I understand your point regarding the Federal government, it was pretty messed up (IMO) to have the content of education be up for a popular vote in the first place. That wasn't really how it worked. Texas has a commission of the State Government that reviews text books and other class material. It works with local school boards and other groups to approve what is taught and used. One of the books included ID as a subject to be discussed in addition to evolution. Not to exclude it it. The federal government wen high and to the right over that and threatened to withhold funding if the material was used. That money was tax dollars collected from Texas taxpayers. Now THAT is intrusion. You know come to that I remember a similar row, I think it was also in Texas (not sure) about how State history was being taught. In that instance too the Federal Government intervened in a very heavy handed way. Okay, I rolled with your description even though I couldn't find an instance of a popular vote in Texas on the topic. Regarding withholding funding that's the lasso the national government uses (if you don't adopt this thing, you don't get this funding). Comes up here every few years when people argue the state is 'losing' money by not requiring farmers to buckle up when they're in their pickups and farm equipment because there's certain federal funds the state doesn't get by not passing that law as a requirement (which they don't do because the farmers believe it'll add extra time to their work schedules, etc). Of course its not really 'losing' money if you never had it to begin with. Anyhow, the federal dollars withheld wouldn't have been exclusively collected from Texas, would it? Changes that happen with Texas and California text books tend to be popular national topics because, generally speaking, the text book companies, to maximize profits, tailor books to the standard of one of those two states and all the other states have to pick which one they'd rather have.
