My point was simply that they were disparate; its hard to draw comparisons to previous cases since no two are alike. As I recall Petraeus was never charged with Espionage. Libby was convicted, IIRC, of lying not espionage.
 -
True the other 'recent' military personnel I can think of charged under the Espionage act (George Trofimoff, life in prison; James Hall III, 40 years; John Anthony Walker, 25 years) all had more comparable sentences to Manning than the non-military ones (Jeffrey Sterling, 3.5 years; Stephen Jin-Woo Kim, 13 months, John Kiriakou, 30 months) Sure, but aren't all of those examples people who sold secrets to other states? Yes, I believe that Trofimoff, Hall, and Walker were all explicitly selling secrets to Russia; Sterling, Kim and Kiriakou were all convicted of giving secrets to journalists; Sterling in particular received his sentence right after the Patraeus sentencing which kind of shows how disparate handling of these types of accusations have been.

I'm not saying that there was a legitimate claim in this case; loads of organizations will send cease-and-desist notices over marks that wouldn't really be actionable if it went to court. I'm just saying that if the site was asked to remove it with reference to Geneva Convention, it was probably someone sabre-rattling over Provision III of the Geneva Convention (or something from the 1977 update, but the wording on Prov III seemed the most likely culprit).
 -
There's nothing in that wording that I can see that confines it to 'real life'. And if their goal is to prevent the misuse of the emblem or the lack of clarity when it is used, fictional uses would have to factor into it, I'd think.

I never said they weren't useful tools for Universities. However (a) the current trend in Universities is to move away from strictly using SAT/ACT for admit decisions and (b) to include the HS GPA as a part of the decisions. The university system here makes admissions decisions on a formula that uses HS GPA and SAT/ACT and does remediation using a similar formula that can also add a 'placement test' like College Board's ACCUPLACER or ACT's now defunct COMPASS. This was modeled after, IIRC, Tennessee's model which in turn was modeled after another states. I'd heard of multiple measures admissions / placement because of work done in that direction in California well before it was adopted here, with a lot of this being based out of the desire to work with Complete College America guidelines. -
As I understand it the Geneva convention of 1882 gives specific places where the Red Cross symbol is approved to be used an only in those areas and, for the most part, granted Trademark of the symbol to the organization (excepting, in some cases, where a pre-existing trademark pre-dated ratification of the convention). However in this case, I think the takedown was predicated on Protocol III which wasn't adopted until 2006. This spelled out that there are only two uses of the Red Cross, Red Crescent, and Red Crystal - Protective Use (to mark medical and religious persons equipment) and Indictive Use (to show the person is a member of the organization). All other use is forbidden as it could weaken recognition of the symbol in wartime. So DOOM (1993) would predate Protocol III but the remake (2016) would not, for example.

However, if you were legitimately in the process of becoming the King of England, you would still be granted an honorific to reflect that status. Arguably Chelsea has done more than state "I identify as a woman..." bit through medical and psychological treatment, even if the operation itself is still in her future.

Have you tried putting in in your deck when the card persists as a work around for now? That seems to have worked for some people. http://forums.obsidian.net/topic/90070-harpy-monk-card-persists/?do=findComment&comment=1870659 http://forums.obsidian.net/topic/90911-ghlorofaex-part-of-characters-deck/ -
My understanding is that she's not received the gender reassignment surgery; although I believe (but could be wrong) a federal court ruled that prison couldn't block gender reassignment (I seem to recall that she's on hormone treatment since 2015), I believe the logistical questions of how the surgery would be provided (as the military isn't equipped to provide it in house) and what to do with her afterwards were still questions now side-stepped by the commuting of the sentence. The rationale I heard was that Snowden didn't face the US justice system and either stand exonerated as a legitimate whistleblower (his claim) or convicted of treason (the state's claim), instead fleeing the justice system to Russia. Manning faced the justice system, was dealt with fairly and accepted her culpability in what happened. It probably also helped that the 35 year sentence has been deemed by many with knowledge of such things to be out of proportion with sentences given for similar action in the past.

I love the SAT and ACT. I do think the results of the tests are horribly misused, but that's neither here nor there. That said the beginning of moving away from strictly using SAT/ACT dates to earlier than 2014; Blefield and Crosta had an article “Predicting Success in College: The Importance of Placement Tests and High School Grades” in 2012 that that indicated HS GPA was a better predictor. I'm pretty sure that Complete College America supports using multiple measures w/HS GPA and is part of why the trend has been sweeping through the states. The entire university system in this state has moved in that direction for all ~30 institutions. The "best" data for freshmen is considered to be HS GPA and SAT (then HS GPA and ACT), in both cases the formula that derives the composite score is weighted more towards the GPA. Because the studies1 have been indicating that persistence (even the "I got a 'C' for not being busted with a weapon and showing up') was a better predictor of continued persistence than standardized test scores. 1Of course there is, it should be pointed out, stated concern that the studies haven't been run long enough to get an accurate perception over time, which has been a cause for concern for faculty. Unfortunately the obsession over increasing graduates because college graduation = job ready work force has made a lot of places jump in with both feet. -

Strange but true (from the examinations on the subject I've read) - even with acknowledging grade inflation, High School GPA is a better predictor of Freshman college success than SAT/ACT scores. That's the reason a lot of colleges have been slowly been moving to a "multiple measures" system to evaluate admissions and placement decisions because the standardized scores work better when applied to a context (like HS GPA) than they do alone. -
The cruelty to animals charge comes from the use of a bullhook in training (which IIRC is a hold over from training of elephants in India) paired with the need to separate young animals from mothers as part of training.

While I think that standardized testing is horribly misused and the actual meaning of the result horribly stretched to meet conclusions they could hardly support (or to bolster data that no one wants to admit exists by looking at how income and other demographic data show the same kind of success rates), I think the poet is wrong here: Most educational institutions still use the provision that the author is dead with respect to interpretations of their work. I do find this to be a weird artifact of the move to try to move to contemporary authors as educational resources and how they may object to interpretations of their work. -
I thought it was a bad episode (not, mind you, that I'm all that crazy about the show; that said I enjoyed The Lying Detective without qualifications and there's few of these SHERLOCK episodes I can say that about). Biggest problem IMO was the story could only happen the way it did because Sherlock is stupid and Mycroft is massively stupid. But it tried to be clever and just really failed, IMO. And the editing in of Moriarty on video was annoying to me as a viewer.

Have you faced Morgiv the Enshrouded? https://forums.obsidian.net/topic/90701-lost-cards-from-morgiv-the-enshrouded-post-here/ I believe that can create issues with experienced characters as well as loosing cards from him. -
