  1. Not really. I am sure that there is a formula to make RPG 's successful for the average gamer.as in, there must be a specific mixture of (complexity of) story, graphics, action etc. which will most appeal to as large a group as possible. And that group and that mixture will then count as the average, which is not what this specific game is designed for. This specific game is designed for a specific audience, and people like Luckmann, Stun and me want to reserve this type of game as it is and not have it become more average. That said, glad the game is getting good press.
  2. I would love to read romance, written by you, in the style that Lephys would appreciate, possibly featuring regular posters on this forum as the protagonists =P.
  3. Good idea! I guess if there's enough demand for that we might be able to accommodate I too would love to see this. Your soundtrack is really nice
  4. It's kind of funny that you mention The Witcher 2. The Witcher 1 had kill XP and it was the main way to gain levels. The Witcher 2 moved to monsters giving almost no XP. The Witcher 3 totally removed kill XP, only quests content provide XP now...and I haven't seen anyone complain about it on the Witcher forums. Its kind of funny that you forgot that Witcher 3 is now open world sandbox as Skyrim, with enemies which do not scale to player level. This was discussed for months in forums. Its impossible to have no scaling to player level and kill XP in enemies at the same time in open world sandbox game. The fantastic Gothic rpg games series had a gigantic open world filled with enemies that did not scale to level but did gave you kill xp, and it worked wonderfully well.
  5. Unfair statement when a lot of other members of the forum are doing their utmost best to influence the developers to make PoE more like BG2 .
  6. Keep up the good work with your bugfixing and requesting for small feature changes. I can't stress enough how glad I am to see your efforts and high quality feedback for the game be translated into actual improvements.
  7. You and I must not have played the same Baldurs Gate. My advice is, give BG another spin and see how incorrect that number you stated is. I'm currently replaying Baldur 's Gate II and do find most of the combat quest related. Not in the meaning that each and every combat encounter is for the sake of a specific quest, but rather that encounters are either for the sake of a quest or encountered on the way to a quest. It makes a difference in so far as that I don't have the feeling I'm going out of my way to get into combat and thus gain combat experience. I like it.
  8. I understand your point Luckmann, but it feels 'wrong' to say that people who want the 'full' game (original game plus small downloadable content) and cannot get it any other way except through piracy, therefore automatically result to piracy. I know you are not condoning it, but by presenting it as if they have no other option is does feel as if you present that course of action as natural. And frankly, I don't think that is the case. Life isn't fair. Some people always have something others don't. And in this case, backers can get something people who pre-order can't. That doesn't mean that people who didn't back get the right to pirate the game. That also doesn't mean that, in case they really want the exclusive content, pirating is the natural order of things. As Hassat Hunter said, in the end, any given 'reason' to pirate is just an excuse. To be able to take someone's property as any other common thief. But then again, I guess one of the reasons this whole discussion got out of hand is because, perhaps other forum backers would share my opinion in so far as that exclusive downloadable content isn't a sufficient reason to even want to pirate a game all together. I mean, not only the proposition that anything 'leads' to piracy, but the proposition that something as small and insignificant as downloadable content would lead to it. I mean, neither I for myself nor any of my friends would care much about it at all. But then again, you already understand all of the above as you won't buy the game unless you can get it, including all the downloadable content, legally. I find that very commendable. But more than that, I just wanted to note that perhaps it's not so much that you explain pirating as an (uncondonable, but) automatic course of action, but rather the underlying premise that something 'insignificant' like dlc can be a sufficient t'excuse'for some to pirate that offended peoples' opinions <shrug>. That said, hope you can get the full game and can enjoy it. Can't wait till it comes out myself.
  9. More than anything, I hope that the Obsidian team will be able to get some rest during the holiday season
  10. I've been thinking this ever since Sheikh started. I don't think he's a troll though, just someone with different and strong viewpoints . Still, I do wonder whether he's not a little bit codependent on his fellow debaters. And we wouldn't want to that now, would we?
  11. It took me a while to figure out too. And before I did, I thought of a similar joke as Lephys so seeing his post made me laugh a lot =P.
  12. I would like to object towards Hassat Hunter's claim that Sensuki is the only one arguing against engagement and that he rehashed the same arguments over and over. Neither Sensuki nor Hormalakh are the only ones arguing against engagement, as has been made clear by Hormalakh above. I'm very appreciative of Sensuki's and Hormalakh's efforts to improve this game and would just like to point out that they make very valid points in regards to the engagement mechanic. Furthermore, as Grinning Reaper pointed out the worst part about the people arguing in favor of engagement is that in doing so, they don't make qualitative statements about the nature of the engagement mechanic itself but rather about their style of playing which is characterised by a distinct lack of attention to the strategical aspects of combat. That said, I'd like to suggest not turning this thread into a discussion between those who are in favour of Sensuki's appeal against engagement and those not in favour, but rather to keep focusing on discussions about the engagement mechanic itself. I am sure that that will increase the chance of the developers actually using the information in this thread to improve the game.
  13. That was really enjoyable to watch. Thanks a lot for uploading.
  14. Sheikh, I'm not sure what the point of your other thread regarding Muslims is, but you seem to hold rather unhealthy views towards them and to be inclined to disparage them as a group. As such I would like to ask you to be more cautious with your comments in the future, for civility' sake.
  15. Simply put, I think that Sheikh has an overly idealistic concept of kickstarter. I would have to agree with Bry here. No matter what your own personal opinion is on the nature of kickstarter, and on what you funded by pledging money, at the end of the day Obsidian will want to, must, even sell as many copies of the game as possible in order to thrive as a company.
  16. To my best knowledge, paypal stretches did at least contribute to the last stretch goal.
