  1. THIS is exact the lie I was talking about! Espezialy computer games do NOT have that many code lines compared to other software. http://www.informationisbeautiful.net/visualizations/million-lines-of-code/ Quake 3 engine (just the graphic) a bit over 300k lines. Cry Engine 2 or Age of Empire online a bit over 1 millions lines. Unreal 2 engine around 2 million lines. Compared to something simple like Google Chrome which has 5-7 million lines ... Facebook 60++ million lines (WTF??? what for??? *g*). Average modern car software 100++ million lines. Games are NOT that complicate and most of the code is invented 35+ years ago and can be downloaded! Those are just the engines. They do not include actual gameplay or other assets. And hey, since you can just download most of the code, I guess everyone can make huge video games now. After all, it was invented 35+ years ago. Gonna go download the code for Super Mario RPG now and use it to code a AAA rpg and release it on steam, it'll be easy!
  2. Sounds to me like you haven't even done that many dungeons in the game since they do have puzzles, interaction, dialog and and the like. And for all the "greatness" of the starting dungeon in BG2, one of the most popular mods for the game was a mod that allowed you to skip it entirely. Why? Because in the end, it was still an extremely linear dungeon where none of your choices really mattered that much, and it was too long. And I do remember those quests. They involved starting dialogue, monsters, middle dialogue, monsters, boss, ending dialogue. Pretty much the same as this game.
  3. This "balance doesn't matter in single player games" thing is becoming far too common, and I have no idea why people think balancing video games stems from MMOs. Balance belongs in EVERY video game, no matter how many players it involves. If a class or a race is well above others, why would you ever pick ones below it? You can answer "well roleplaying and obviously you don't have to play the overpowered option", but it still affects the game as a whole, especially in a game like this that uses the classes for enemies as well. When you pick the underpowered option, no matter how much roleplay you put into it you still know that you picked the worse option, and probably will not have as much fun. Hell, you post about your character online and people will probably call you a masochist for playing whatever you picked. This is in the worst case scenario, where a class or a race or gameplay option is so badly balanced that it's actually painful to play - and believe me, single player rpgs have had such mishaps in the past due to bad balancing. Balance does matter.
  4. I'll hazard a guess that if there was no level cap people would be complaining about being far too high level for the main game's end content, because they did every single side quest in the game. And before anyone goes "well then just make it so that side quests combined with the main quest lead you to a specific level fit for that content" - then you have the problem of players being forced to do side quests. And no, scaling of enemies to your level is not a solution. Large majority of pc gamers seem to hate level scaling anyway. And like mentioned before, the game is going to have an expansion and a sequel. We don't know if the sequel will use the watcher as the protagonist, but the expansion will and the level cap will almost certainly be raised.
  5. DA:O's hook was awful. I didn't want to be part of the Grey Wardens since I hated them from the start, I didn't want to fight Sauron's army aka darkspawn. It felt extremely forced and didn't do much in the way of giving roleplay to people who don't really want to be a warden. If that's a good hook, then any video game that forces you to be part of the plot has a good hook.
  6. Oh player character I am so attracted to you because you are the player character I won't ever mention any other love interests or people I'm attracted to because I'm playersexual. Now queue up a one minute cutscene where we awkwardly rub our chests together because that's basically sex. Oh wait weren't we supposed to save the world or something oh guess that can wait while we exchange bodily fluids
  7. [stoic 4] By the gods, you're that weird quiet guy aren't you? Here, have all my wares for free. Now get out of here, you're creeping out the rest of the customers!
  8. Umm, it takes me 20 seconds tops to go from clicking the icon on my desktop to moving my characters around. About 2 seconds to save using the 4 button on my mouse for "Save", part of that is selecting which slot I want to save it in requiring me to click several buttons and make a decision during this process. Which means perhaps it's your computer and not the game itself. Actually the game has at least one issue with long saving/loading times, and this patch fixes it, so nope, it's probably not their computer.
  9. D&D gods still make Hylea look like a genius in comparison.
  10. I think the changes to Chill Fog and Curse are an attempt at making the CC-only spells better at CC than the CC+damage spells.
  11. https://forums.obsidian.net/blog/7/entry-179-patch-notes-103/ Didn't see a topic for them yet and thought people might miss these, so here you go. Pretty pleased with the changes!
  12. It's essentially old D&D crafting, which also required you to give up gold. Where that gold went, nobody knows. Be thankful that they don't require you to use experience points too.
  13. Well, it did teach me that I had to use slicken. At that point I had stopped using slicken because I found it so cheap, and kicked Aloth out of my party for a while, just to make the game harder.
  14. Island aumaua isn't really garbage at all for some cheesy gun builds, but that's about it. Fire godlike is actually good for monks. Boreal dwarf isn't THAT bad, since those enemy types are surprisingly common in the mid-end game. But it's pretty garbage right now since the racial is apparently bugged and not working. Other than that, looks about right.
  15. That point of resolve is already included in your stats, because the default culture applies it beforehand. It's a tad weird and could have been handled better.
  16. Your attributes give you quite a few new options here and there, but the game focuses on the disposition system more. And frankly, I kind of prefer it - I somehow find it more entertaining to be consistently stoic or rational for example, than just pick the intelligence option every time it's there, just because my int is high. There's also the fact that picking those high attribute choices isn't always the good thing to do. Some int options make you seem snobbish, and some resolve options make you seem like some kind of crusader who's forcing his beliefs onto others. It's kind of refreshing really, because in the past these high attribute choices were always the "I WIN THIS DAMN CONVERSATION" button.
  17. That quest is one of the more ridiculous moments in the game, even on hard. Hope you like every enemy blasting you with chain lightning, then AOE healing themselves after you take them down to 30% endurance.
  18. BG wasn't really that "mysterious", and I guessed most of the plot twists rather easily. Actually at times I found some of the side plots more interesting than the main plot. And there really wasn't much drive to continue adventuring in BG either - "oh no your foster parent that you knew in the game for 5 minutes is dead go meet his weird swinger friends". What if I don't care about Gorion, or his friends, and I wanted to get the **** out of Candlekeep anyway? Then the story becomes about me randomly stumbling onto stuff that has something to do with my not-at-all-hard-to-guess past, even though I don't really care. The fact is that it's extremely hard to do a roleplaying video game plot that keeps every player interested, but doesn't feel forced upon you. For tabletop gaming it's easier, and is one of it's strengths and probably will be for decades to come.
  19. Paladins make for really good off-tanks, and they do have slight advantages against singular, hard hitting targets such as bosses. It's weird because I remember reading that the designated flaw for paladins was going to be singular heavy hitters, but it really isn't the case in the finished game. Basically, use a fighter as your main tank, and a paladin or chanter as your off-tank. Both paladin and chanter can support your main tank at the same time as they take on the enemies your fighter can't engage. In normal and easy you don't really need an off-tank at all though, and you can finish hard without one too, but it'll be a bit tougher.
  20. Really wish you could enchant hats, most of the unique ones have models that don't really fit my characters.
  21. Accuracy is raised at the same rate for each class, just the beginning number differs from class to class.
  22. No stat raises accuracy. Accuracy is only raised by leveling up, talents and gear.
  23. Do remember that you can still enchant unique gear that you find. Stuff that you can find earlier can actually be the best equipment in the game if you keep it and upgrade it, some of the early gear has really nice unique enchants.
  24. Gee I don't want to know what other things in your daily life offend you, must be really stressful getting offended all the damn time.
