Fair enough, Vol. ...And you can't teach an old dog new tricks, meta. Evolution is one thing. Speculating on the nature of crucifying? Ugh. Please refrain from personal attacks. Remember, dueling was outlawed in the Obsidian Fora Act of 1851.
-
What's with this crucifixion non-sense? Get back on topic, dammit.

Sorry, guys, I've been a bit busy today. At any rate, it doesn't seem like there are actual flames running rampant. I know that emotions are running high. Please be respectful of other people. I haven't had a chance to go through the whole thread, but don't do stupid things like call each other names or bypass the language filter. I would rather not put any of you on moderated. Vol, I know emotions are running high, but you've endured a lot worse comments from me, for crying out loud. ...And given some grief as well. Let's try to keep the thread open.
-
You're a psychology candidate, DL?
-
Remember the debate. Don't start flaming. This is a kinder, gentler forum. ...Or something like that.
-
Hell, I don't know who chopped the thread. If I had, I'd've informed you by PM and then found a good thread so I could laugh at you. Like this: :Eldar's pointing and laughing at baley icon: hahahaha

Well, Name, your name is a lot easier to read now. I didn't realize a member could change names. Okay, well, thread evolution and all. It's virtually impossible to avoid some shift in the conversation, and this one seems related at least, unlike most of the spam I see creep into thread. Still, if you'd like to get us back on task, steer the conversation and I'll try to keep your original topic in mind.

I profoundly disagree. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I second. Apart from the fact that Commissar and I would be full citizens, I have to say that the civilian government must be the highest authority. Of course, Starship Troopers required that the government must be civilian comprised of folks who had served. Intriguing, but I don't like it. For good or ill, I'm for democracy. Meritocracy is great and all, but I'll take my lumps and stick with the republic.

YoP was a great forum. Of course, some members sent personal hate mail and threatening letters to other members, advocated assassinating the President, and just caused all sorts of mayhem. We have no one like that here and I would probably end up banning them if we did. Sure, folks get a bit angry from time to time. Sometimes emotions run high. ...But there is no concentrated campaign to drive away members. I refuse to name names, but there are members from the BIS boards of whom we are very well rid. We've got it great here, and I intend to keep it that way. Look to the left and see my badge. Be afraid! :Eldar's angry sheriff look: On the other hand, I miss Melodie and some of the others. There are some great folks on that list. What was great about YoP was the more political and philosophical orientation of the topics. WWoT was just that, the really weird, off the wall stuff.

Authority is living the dream, man! He's gone to game developing schools. If he's willing to commute several thousand miles, he could get a job with Obsidian Entertainment.
-
Im going to game development school
Cantousent replied to Kaftan Barlast's topic in Developers' Corner
Kaftan, are you there? How's game developer's school going? -
Well, we'd better get back to art. Interplay bashing is not only going to get us all in trouble, it's pointless as well.

Wow, this thread has survived and continues to thrive. Great job, all. Of all the great posts, and there have been several, I only have time to make a quick comment while I finish reading the threads. I disagree with pacifism. I like the idea of a world without violence, and I'm rather a wimp at heart, but there comes a time to make a decision. Whether it's on the playground, street, or battlefield, there may be a time where you have to decide to fight or not. Sometimes, you've got to fight. That probably makes me sound like a warmonger, but I'm not. I hate violence. Since I've been witness to and involved in it, I probably hate it more than some folks that hate it on principle. Still, while I fear the day that I might be forced to fight, there are some thing that are worth it. I wish the entire world were pacifistic. I wish humans weren't violent by nature. ...But we are. It is my fervent hope that I can live in my little corner of the world without violence or mayhem. I've had folks shooting at me. The next time they might be a better shot. I just can't get away from the fact that there are some things worth taking the risk.

Eldar wishes that he was Authority. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> *Walks to the corner and cries.*

Rape is such a charged term that I shudder when I read it in a thread. We've already had some troubles regarding this word. However, my take on this argument is that this is a more or less reasonable argument regarding the proper use of the term. So, I'm not going delete or edit any posts. One of the other mods might, rightfully, disagree and do something about it. Of course, I think we should always be careful in assuming things about people, but folks engage in speculation all the time. I know I've had children in my class and thought, I hope he doesn't end up in a street gang. Anyhow, if I'm forced to read the threads, I have the right to comment from time to time. :D

Yeah, I quoted the contents of the website up above in my post.

I don't recall, but Interplay had folded but still retained the rights as I understood it. I remember that Herve Caen was still trying to work out a deal unto the last minute. Apparently they filed with the SEC on 8-19, so theoretically they're still alive. On the other hand, I simply don't understand most of it. Anyhow, for the legally minded folks, here's the link: http://www.sec.gov/cgi-bin/browse-edgar?ac...any&CIK=1057232 EDIT: here's a grimly funny link to their current web page, from which you can try to contact investor relations and link to their SEC filings. Ah hell, it's short. I'll just cut and paste. Interplay Entertainment Corp. is a developer, publisher and licensor of interactive entertainment software for both core gamers and the mass market. We are most widely known for our titles in the action/arcade, adventure/role playing game (RPG), and strategy/puzzle categories. We have produced titles for many of the most popular interactive entertainment software platforms, and currently are focusing our publishing and distribution business by developing interactive entertainment software for the On Line Massively Multiplayer market. We seek to publish or license out interactive entertainment software titles that are, or have the potential to become, franchise software titles that can be leveraged across several releases and/or platforms, and have published many such successful franchise titles to date. We publish and distribute interactive entertainment software titles that provide immersive game experiences by combining advanced technology with engaging content, vivid graphics and rich sound. We utilize the experience and judgment of the experienced gamers in our production group to select and produce the products we publish. Our strategy is to invest in products for those platforms, whether PC or video game console, that have or will have sufficient installed bases or a large enough number of potential subscribers for the investment to be economically viable. We do not currently internally develop new products. As we anticipate continued substantial growth in the use of high-speed Internet access, which could provide significantly expanded market potential for online products, we are focusing our efforts to launching an online service, entitled GamesOnLine, allowing consumers to become part of a unique online community of gamers and access selected content. I don't know what we could have expected. It's not like Bethesda was going to take what BIS had and run with it. Could they have theoretically bought the whole thing and finished it? I suppose, but come on...

When is the game supposed to start on Friday. I'm actually arranging real life around my online gaming schedule. How sad. I'll reschedule lunch for another day and pretend I have a doctor's appointment. That's it! That's what I'll do.

I seem to recall an Assyrian inscription that read something to the effect that they'd destroyed a city "as if by flood." Floods can truly destroy a place. They're talking about the city just being... gone. I'm sure they'll rebuild, but it ain't going to be the same place.

It looked more like a surprise icon.
-
It's damned depressing, really.

Hell, my understanding is that Britain was the country to suffer under the war agains the nazis for the longest length of time. ...And the USSR actually did most of the heavy lifting. Hey, China was fighting Japan before the war broke out in Europe.
