  1. Egads, the reading! My eyes! Okay, well, good job with the thread so far, guys. There is some heated debate, but no outright hatred. Woo Hoo! As far as free speech goes, it depends. If speech can constitute an action, then it should be viewed as such. The famous "kill the umpire" thing. I don't know the law, but I do know that there are several cases where speech is considered unlawful. For instance, what about folks who have access to state secrets? What about state secrets themselves? A state must have secrets and those secrets must be kept. How about folks who exort others to carry out crimes? Are they allowed to speak freely but then bear some responsibility for the crime once committed? These are the things that we must consider. Anyhow, I haven't read the thread between Commissar's goodnight post and this page, but I look forward to the give and take.
  2. Hey, I was hoping you guys might make cards for each other! ...Or even yourselves. Still, I think I can come up with a card for Mus? and Calax. bwahahaha.
  3. Well, in my case, once I turned twenty, my age surpassed my IQ anyhow.
  4. Servant of Eru Servant has an attack of one Servant has a defense of one Servant is a "Heckler of What the Hell am I doing" type card. Special powers: Once a thread, Servant can cast "I'm going to be the most obnoxious and sexually perverse pastor" spell. It really doesn't have an affect, but it sure is weird. For three "Dammit, what did he just say" tokens, Servant can invoke the "OMGWTF@!@!!11@@@!!!!!!!!@#" power and confuse all players. No attacks for the next round. For ten "I didn't cross the line. What line?" tokens, Servant can invoke the "Wrath of thread destruction" power. The thread will head for immediate deletion and the the threads on either side of the destroyed thread must have a combined defense of 100 or suffer lockdown. All participants in the destroyed thread take 50 points of "moderator's flame" damage.
  5. Imminent closure. 5...4...3.... ah nuts, let's just close it.
  6. This is inspired by the T.O.M.B.S. thread in the PnP forum here at good ol
  7. Well, it's a bit early to say we will cause our own extinction, isn't it? I mean, we're still here, talking on the board. If we deplete the world of natural resources or otherwise create mayhem for ourselves, we're just those predators who have over hunted the population.
  8. No, I didn't think he was an actual employee. Well, maybe he was the board administrator. I don't know, but it wasn't an Obsidian board at any rate. It was the Interplay boards. The uproar was huge. Reminds me of the time someone made a comment about Diablo and the Diablo community came and ravaged the BIS boards. hahaha. Anyhow, no problems like that in these parts. No need for concern. Ahh, the good ol' days. If only Monte were back on board.
  9. That really chaps my hide. Pride is a stupid reason to refuse aid. I'd like to have some sort of reasoning as to why the Bush administration has refused aid. ..And why don't we have national guard out there keeping the peace. This is ridiculous. I don't want to jump the gun, but I'm really curious as to why we're taking an almost wait and see approach.
  10. Yeah, I recall that now. I remember the move to the IP boards. I had been gone for a long time and recently returned when they did away with the old boards. Hell, I remember the BIS boards before you had to create a screen name. They couldn't keep the place under control because AOL wouldn't let them see any IPs. They finally resorted to using board software kind of like what we have here. ahh, the good old days.
  11. Don't name names! Unless it's me. In which case, I'll be hurt, but I'll just suffer in silence. :D
  12. I also see a difference between targetting something and knowing that civilians are there and targetting civilians for the purpose of terror. Of course, there was a huge discussion of this in thread around here somewhere. I should probably buy the game and play it.
  13. Ahh, that makes sense. The guys at BIS could assume the role of Overseer as necessary.
  14. As you've described, AVALANCE are terrorists. Still, people can manage to torture logic so that the terrorists are the equivalent of minutemen. Clearly, looking at both groups, the minutemen were not like the terrorists of today. Folks with an agenda will often claim equivalency between two disparate groups. That's all well and good, but it is intellectually dishonest. So, I've never played the game, but AVALANCE may very well be terrorists. I see actual terrorism as a bad thing, and I see attempts to spin terrorism into something good as an affront to logic. That's just my opinion, though.
  15. I know there are Buddhists who hold to such a belief. They put cloth over their mouths and walk carefully so as not to step on bugs.
  16. Because your the one posting it. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Seconded!
  17. Overseer was Sawyer, if I recall.
  18. Can we get off the gay/lesbian questions? ...And I don't know the answer to that at any rate, draakh. :D
  19. Good grief, I step out and we've taken hurricanes to B movies. Viewed with a twisted sort of logic, I can see how we ended up here. Okay, back on topic. The situation is New Orleans is truly horrible and it just seems to be getting worse. This may very well be the absolute worst natural disaster in our history. The authorities are talking about deaths in the thousands.
  20. I don't hate homosexuals in any way. I just LOVE women. Ahem, on topic, I've been letting kumquat do my fighting for me, which isn't cool. Mostly, I just figured that he had a good idea of what I was trying to express. Now, however, I will put something straight: if I'm an arrogant clod because I love my country, then I'll gladly wear that label. The United States is exceptional. It raised the banner of freedom, and it pleases me that other nations developed democracies all over the world. We're not perfect, but we've done more good than evil in the world. I think Commissar had it right when he used the analogy of the two American office workers. Some folks beat their chests and brag to the world and lay claim to all things good. I'm not one of them. There are many instances where we have failed. No people are perfect, and Americans aren't any different. Nevertheless, when faced with recalcitrant hostility to my country, I will speak on its behalf. I won
  21. So am I! <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
  22. Any of your inlaws from that area, Commissar?
