There is no more destructive power than nature. ...And man is a natural animal. There is enough kindness Baley. ...But thinking of better ways to celebrate someone getting killed is not a good example of it. I'm not a peace at any price person. If we must make war, make it. Never rejoice in it. Never take grim pleasure in it. Never succumb to it. That, I guess, is an example of a pleonastic sermon.

And yet another round of shadow talking nonsense all around. This isn't a debate about whether one system is better than another. It's advocacy of your particular favorite system. Now, I'm sure that we could discuss the validity of sources all day. You have a point that it is the PS3 developers who make positive statement about the PS3. After all, it's in their best interest to reassure the public in regards to the PS3. By the same token, you have a point that the folks who have the most experience with the PS3 are the developers working with it. Fair enough. So, you both have a point. However, nothing anyone says ever seems to give you even a moments pause, alan. Seriously, you really do come across as the PS3 defender extraordinaire. Epiphany comes across as the XBox 360 defender extraordinaire. 10k, whom I believe sounds like Briareus [sic] from the IP boards, sounds clearly in favor of the XBOX 360, but does not sound rabid. Let's take the statement: "Once people start doing really impressive stuff on PS3 and Xbox 360, they're both going to be much the same [in terms of difficulty]," he concluded. "Sony's giving us better tools this time around - they're still not great at communicating and there are some weird holes in their developer support, but they've learned a lot of lessons from PS2." That seems positive to me. If I read between the lines because, while they're the best at assessing the PS3, the developers still have a vested interest in PS3 sales, then I can see that the PS3 is coming along in terms of support. There are still problems, but they hope to have the PS3 somewhat on par with the Xbox360 in terms of difficulty. That makes sense. The difficulty argument is pointless on its face. For one thing, what end consumer gives a crap about how hard it was to make the game? When I pick it up off the shelf, I don't care if the process was hard. I only care that the game is good. So, the "shadow" point is that the PS3 is a difficult beast and that the games won't be as good because of the work involved. That's not a real point. We'll see whether the game are good once the games hit the shelf. Arguing how hard the games are before the system ships is just plain dumb. Before you PS3 hacks get too excited though, it would be nice to see you guys give at least some sort of nod to the fact that, apparently, even according to those all knowing PS3 developers, the PS3 can be a difficult system. What I'm saying is, a pox on both your houses. These threads have never been about discussing real issues. They always inevitably boil down to some console loving wonk pushing his system because he thinks it's best. What a pain in the ass.

The ongoing saga of the Asus En 7900 GTX
Cantousent replied to Cantousent's topic in Skeeter's Junkyard
Apparently so, although I suspect I might have done in my previous card myself. I didn't take the faceplate off the chasis for the air intake on the other one. The fact that there was zero airflow from the intake might have been the reason the card overheated. I dunno. At any rate, not a single glitch so far. EDIT: And thanks for the nudge, alan. -
The ongoing saga of the Asus En 7900 GTX
Cantousent replied to Cantousent's topic in Skeeter's Junkyard
Okay, everything is running fine now. I haven't been able to play non-stop, but I've played as long as I could and even left the game running in some very graphics demanding areas and walked away to the other things I needed to do. The verdict: No problems at all. ...And this system is COOL. Sure, some cooling nut would scoff, but my CPU has not gone past 41C. That's running some pretty demanding stuff at the same time. The GPU is tough to know because it won't track during a 3D game. Still, by carefully tracking it immediately after I exit a game, the highest reading I've seen are 45C. Even if we assume there's period of cooling during the few seconds it takes to leave a game and start tracking again, I doubt if it's substantial. Not only that, but my system doesn't get wonkie anymore. I'm still cautiously optimistic, but I'm more optimistic at this point than cautious. I still have a habit of tracking my temps. I keep a long of CPU, MB, and HDD temperatures. At idle, with the house at 78 degrees, the CPU is 37C, the MB is 40C, and the HDD is 54C. The HDD really doesn't fluxuate much. I've never seen it vary from 52-54C. I continue to be thankful for everyone's good wishes. -
Well, if it drops to a couple hundred dollars, I might pick up one. Can I SLI it with my 7900GTX?

Oh, he was a repulsive man. He was a dreamer of nightmares. I refuse to revel in anyone's death, but I am glad that he is gone.

Why would the price drop so fast on a new product?

Well, I actually finished it last night, but I thought I'd comment on FEAR. It's the funniest thing to hear them say, "We've got a sniper!" I guess they'd say that if you kill someone in a single shot, but it's really funny when you hear them say it after you off someone with a pistol or a shotgun.

Maybe it was three strikes.

I'm sorry, Child. Didn't see the reply. I will contact an agent and see where it goes from there. I just don't want to get ahead of myself on that front just yet.

Well, as the token Republican of the group, I have to say I hold Coulter in the utmost disdain. I sure as hell don't mind disagreeing with my friends concerning political issues, or any other, but I have to agree that Coulter lessens the debate. Basically, I dislike anyone for whom the delivery is more important than the message. That's Coulter all over. Not only that, but she really is a nut-job. She is unrelenting and uses the excuse that Democrats are unrelenting. ...But not all Democrats are implacable. It's ridiculous to use isolated instances in one group to defend your own actions in regards to everyone in that group. Moreover, I am as patriotic as anyone here. I believe in the exceptionalism of the United States and I say so without fear, shame, or remorse. ...But I hate the trend of sticking flags and decals on your car and calling yourself patriotic. I tell you what, go dedicate four years of your life to the service of your country. Vote in every election. Volunteer some of your labor and industry to your community. That. THAT makes you patriotic. Even something as simple as following the laws and treating your fellow citizens with respect is enough to make you patriotic. Putting a flag or yellow ribbon on your car, as an isolted incident, does not make you patriotic.

And thus, another game of FEAR is finished. Much better this time. However, the ending still sucks. I mean, why doesn't the hero ever get a break in horror flicks/games? Come on, did they have to make it look like they're going to plunder the franchise for every cheesy second? On the other hand, the fights were good. I still prefer HL2 or PKGold, but I though it made for a good gaming experience. Now I'll probably play a game of DOOM3. Either that, or I'll break down and purchase CoC D2D.

I've dealth with some unruly customers before. I've even had to make a citizen's arrest or five in my life. It's best to avoid fisticuffs in your place of business, however, so you did the right thing. However, the next time you should walk over to the phone, pick it up, and say, "No, but I do know how to spell P O L I C E." I worked Human Resources in the training department. Imagine, I conducted a number of different training seminars, two of which were customer service. I disagree that you should hate your customers. On the other hand, respect is a two way street. I never allowed anyone abuse my employees. The bottom line, however, is that you didn't get in a big fight with the customer, and that's the wise thing to do. Save the heroics for when your life, or those of your fellow employees, is endangered.

I'm going to play a bit more of FEAR. I've just reopenned the door to the vault and now I'm going to enter and clean house. Then comes my least favorite part of the game. At least the watchers are spooky. Those damned flaming ghosts aren't spooky, just annoying. ...And they come in mobs. Alls I can think is that better frame rates equate to much easier battles or I played this thing on insane the first time by accident.

Maybe I should have waited, my friend, but I'm not depressed. I'll be waiting until the DX10 cards hit the shelves before I shell out the cash for a new card.

Faded -- Afghan Whigs A lot of anger in that song. It's pretty charged. I like it, but for some reason, it reminds me of the music for American McGee's Alice. Actually, that's probably one of the reasons it's such a compelling song. Alice is one of my favorite games. Heh, now I'm listening to: Dirty Old Town -- The Pogues. hahahaha. Comedy. This is a great drinkin' song. If only I had a single malt for my tea, I'd be set. Also, I'd like to make toast, Scotch or not, to good things happening to fine folks and sharing great music with friends. :Eldar's getting ready to compose a couple of emails icon:

I've been playing FEAR again. This time, however, my computer doesn't get all wonkie when I exit. Huzzah! At any rate, I lowerd my settings from 1600x1200x32 to 1280x960x32. Basically, I wanted the better performance, even though 1600x1200 wasn't bad, my fps rate really kicks into high gear at the lower setting. I find that really helps in a fight. Here're some pics for your viewing pleasure. This is not long before I hit the level where we crash into the abandoned part of Auburn. I quit after that. The crash gave me a headache.

My mentioning of my high IQ is not 'even' a tease.

The world is a university, but the finals are a real killer. The world is a university and everyone is graduated in death. The world is a university, but death is always the final grade. The world is a university and every class ends in death. -
hahahaha That was priceless. I wish I could get that swim glitch.

Well, the company went down with the tide like a 2 bit prostitute in a 12 dollar whore house. I don't think we can rail against them too much since they no longer exist.

Heh heh heh. For you, julian, I'd come down and hand you a book in person. By the way, I followed your link. I love my speakers, but I'm not sure my hearing will recover in the next week. I liked the sound, though.

An X800 can handle Vampire: Bloodlines with no problems at all, even with my 9800pro. You haven't played Bloodlines yet? For shame!

The thing is, Lady, it's never too late. You say "even if?" I say, 80 sounds like a fine age to publish a book. BTW: I'll keep you to that drink. Meanwhile, Chapter Seven is nearly completion and I must make arrangements to see what I can do to get started on trying to sell the damned thing. Originally, I thought I should finish the book before even thinking about it, but I've heard conflicting stories. I'm going to proof and edit what I've finished up until the end of seven and then take a look at my options. It means another trip to Vegas, but I spend almost a quarter of every year there already. Plus, I've got a tremendous amount of support there. I'll keep you posted. Meanwhile, if any of you want to start a serious discussion regarding a NWN2 module, I'm game to consider the issue. I think a lot of folks here would be game as well. EDIT: Good Lord, Nart, your avatar is both disturbing and arousing.

It's simply that you can't trust anyone. I don't just mean that for Epiphany, although I was rather irritated that, right after someone sticks up for him, he responds by trying to pick a fight. Nevertheless, I don't trust any of you. We'll see, soon enough, whether the PS3 is a difficult system. Oh, and by the way, making even the pretense of being fair-minded could do wonders for your believability. If you think that statement is directed at you, it undoubtedly is.
