  1. Well I'm back in Hell. I'm on my last leg of the Resurrection of Evil journey. Let me tell you, I'm only finishing the game because I started it and I'm interesting in finding out if the protagonist (that's me) ends up become some sort of uber-Demon lord and invading Earth. I get a bad feeling about that artifact I've been hauling around. It's not your mother's Soul Cube. In fact, it's not a Soul Cube at all. it's somes sort of goat's head looking thing that makes my hands look like I've aged a hundred years. Anyhow, all shootered out for the moment. After this, I'll probably download HoMM 5 and play something a little less frantic for a while. Oh, BTW, if you aim a little to the side you can kill the NPCs in DOOM all you want. Of course, I don't want to kill the NPCs, but it's interesting that you can. What would make it even more interesting is if you could harvest their souls. I've got a bad feeling my character is heading to Hell in a handbasket already, so I don't think I'll add murder to the list. Still, for a lot of folks, it would make for a real moral dilemma.
  2. Yeah, but neither scenario sounds as detailed as Atreides initial premise. I think he's been getting into the ganga again, but the idea has some interesting qualities.
  3. Someone should do a review of Angs. Since I don't do reviews anymore, one of you monkeys should write it.

Well, there would have been no dishonor in losing. Put it that way. I know I'm not as depressed about losing if I put up a good show. Also, now the series wasn't a complete washout. Even if Carolina wins, the Oilers put up a fight. If the Oilers win the series, then they'll have come back from great odd. After all, they were one game from losing the series before the game started today. Anyhow, I'm rooting for the Oilers. It's funny because I don't see nearly as many people rooting for Carolina and the ones I do seem to have mixed feelings whereas the Oilers fans are single minded.
  5. He's actually my brother in law and I'd hate to make my sister a widow. He was having a blast with it as well, and he's not an FPS fan at all. I disagree with the notion that we should play combat as a straight shooter. The hits and damage should all be reflected by weapon type and stats. Otherwise, it weakens the very concept of stats in the first place. On the other hand, combat is kind of weak in the game. Still, it's a great game. I'd be willing to buy another White Wolf game. The setting is wonderful and there's a lot of opportunity for game design.
  6. I've played through this game.... well.... let's just say I've reached Hades level with this game. At any rate, if you want the full breadth of dialogue options, I'd just hack the Int, Cha, and Wis scores up to 21 at start. Frankly, a couple of time, I pumped them to 25. Now, that's cheesy, but after playing through the game a few times, I figured I wasn't playing it for the bragging rights anymore and started getting creative. I also hacked into the game and simply read all the dialogue options to see what I missed. Still, I'd go for high int, wis, and cha simply because some of the most enjoyable moments of the game were a direct result of a high wisdom. In particular, there's a little matter of rings that requires a wisdom over 20. That, THAT one exchange was my favorite from any game I've ever played.
  7. I always turn on subtitles if I have an option. Save a lot of time. Also, I'm thinking of playing as a mage the next time around. That could be cool. Now, if I could just get my buddy to return my game. :Eldar's looking at Ghengisken with one raised eyebrow icon:
  8. Well, I can speak very easily in front of a large group and I worked as trainer in the human resources department for some time. Not that I'll sign on for this, but it sounds interesting. Unfortunately, I don't have time and I'm a bit leery of internet deals like this one. It just seems odd to advertise it here, but keep us posted as to the event and what happens.
  9. A gentleman never talks about music to which he lost his virginity. I do feel a bit... nostalgic... when I hear Electric Avenue.
  10. I'd be Alice.
  11. I'm playing DOOM 3: Resurrection of Evil. Orginally, I was, like, yawn. Then I found the double barreled shotgun. Now I'm Rawr.
  12. Are you guys discussing Kirottu again? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> :Eldar's full blown guffaws icon: The only question is, how hard does Kirottu blow and will he keep my system cool?
  13. Yeah, mines blue with a green light in front. I actually went cheap with it, though. It was $2.50 less than the other case with the blue light. hahaha. It's also quite heavy and comes up to my kneecap. I'm a pretty tall guy, so that's not a short system. The power supply is up above and I can work on the drives, the motherboard, the PSU, and the fans without being forced to move stuff around in the system. Overall, I'm quite happy with my PSU and I haven't felt the need to switch to liquid cooling. My whole rig runs cool. Very cool. Right now, as we speak, the CPU is running at 36C. Still, I'm married and I can't have something truly ugly. That doesn't mean I don't have cool. Basically, it's like a new twist on the old auto-shop sign. You can have cool and ugly and cheap. You can have cool and pretty. You can't have cool and pretty and cheap.
  14. Well, the idea is that liquid cooling systems should be quiet, but some of those systems run liquid and a fan. The ones that move a lot of air will still make noise. Hell, I have 7 fans in my system I can name off the top of my head. The noisiest is probably the lighted one in front. Maybe I'll take some pictures and share. You'd probably get a kick out of my system. It's a real beast inside. tarna's rig is the most ridiculous I've ever seen, however. He had gadgets in there I couldn't even describe, let alone name. Nuts. Anyhow, the upshot is that liquid cooling should be quieter, but the ones that appeal to me most aren't rated that much quieter than what I've got. What appeals to me about them is that they're cooler. whoooosh
  15. Some of those liquid systems are loud, though. I guess that shows how much I share your thoughts on the matter. I don't see liquid cooled systems as a way to stay quiet. When I finally make that move, it will be to reduce more heat.
  16. The fans on the liquid cooling systems will make some noise. The thing is, the amount of airflow and noise will vary just like they do now.
  17. No, you have the desire to throw me in a stream filled with man-eating vines. If you look for the Loma Linda University Medical Center, you'll be within a mile of my house.

    "the stupid brick" hahahahaha
  19. This is kind of like our Frapper thread of old.
  20. I basically believe 10k. That doesn't mean I think he's entirely right all the time, but he sounds an aweful lot like someone else I've seen on other boards whom I know is a developer. That's irrelevant. Even if I take him as an authority on the subject, that doesn't mean he can't comment on things like the IBM or Berkley report. The big thing is, in a general sense, the arguments you guys use against each other are pretty much the same arguments I've heard. Actually, while I tend not to be a technical wonk, I've been following all these threads very closely. I finally weighed in because of Epiphany's moderated status, whereupon one of the mods let him create this thread, whereupon he picks a fight. *shrug* shoulda kept my mouth shut. This discussion, however, is quite interesting. Apparently, I don't need any clarification. It seems (thanks angs) that I got the gist of it already. I do have a relatively technical question, although I'm sure it will highlight my ignorance. If the SPEs can't predict very well, couldn't the designers use scripted events to make up the difference? I mean, that would be irritating in one way, but it could save the AI effort for more meaningful parts of the game. Also, how would these systems, Wii, 360, PS3, handle a game like FEAR, which claims excellent AI? I'd appreciate any answers you guys have, even if you're a little irritated answering my noobish question. alan, in particular, has been excited by his studies in AI for quite some time.
  21. I would never ignore you. Mus?, it's your turn you swine hearted wretch.
  22. I've run a lot of campaigns, but the worst thing I've ever had happen was to step down for a bit to let one of the players run a module. He wanted to run the module but no-one wanted to give up our characters. I said that it would find to have the player run the a few sessions, but that he should probably make sure to ease the players into the new setting and try not to do anything dramatic in terms of their abilities. Unfortunately, he gave two of the characters extra levels the first day, he handed out several truly over-powered magical items, he took them completely away from the campaign location, and finally, he just sucks at DMing. You know, he can't banter with the players, can't come up with dialogue off the top of his head, hadn't read the module he was using thoroughly. Ugh, it was a 2nd edition modules that he was running in a 3rd edition campaign. Hell, the level scheme, the AC, feats, skills, special abilities, etc. It was a mess. Anyhow, I wasn going to live with the consequences, but the other players had a complete revolt and so my campaign died. Some of them wanted me to say it was all a bad nightmare so we could continue where we stopped while I was running the show. Friends are more important than campaigns, however, so I just shrugged. The group then fell into back biting and no longer exists, although I have two different groups with players from both sides of the conflict. It's not like either group can play more than once a month anyhow, so what can you do? The moral? Don't take a successful campaign and let someone else "guest DM."
  23. From what I can gather, and I'm a reasonably intelligent fellow, This is what 10k is saying: Cell has sheer calculating power. This Xenon business makes it easier somehow to code for a great game. I guess the xbox has three cores, all the same, and that you can have the cores do different things, or simply work with another core to do a hefty job of something. The upshot is that the cores, being the same, make it easier for a programmer. Cell, on the other hand, has a powerful master core, the PPC(?), and a bunch of slaves, SPEs(?). The PPC and SPEs has a huge Gflop advantage. However, I don't think 10k was saying, "better graphics doesn't necessarily mean better gameplay." What I believe he is saying is that, "graphics are only part of the programming involved in developing a game." Whatever he meant, I'm sure he can explain it. However, I'd be curious if the braniacs here could simplify this for some of us mentally challenged folks.
  24. Well, either he meant you were the subject of the song, in which case he flamed you. ...Or he meant you're the singer of the song, in which case you flamed someone. Maybe he meant it for the other Baley.
  25. Hey, I'd like a good post-apocalyptic game myself. I had hopes for The Fall, but then heard enough bad things about it that I decided not to buy it.
