No more posting picks of the landscape without sticking yourself in it somewhere. Now, I have to say that I found one of the young ladies in kirottu's pics kind of cute, but she's probably half my age, so... :Eldar's lecherous grin icon: Seriously, Baley looks a hell of a lot younger than I expected, but he's got that insane artist look.

HA! That was the old version. The new and improved Eldar version is my usual, verbose self.

I would agree that it is Sony's goal to make the PS3 more than just a gaming machine but instead a home entertainment system, but the public still perceives it as a gaming console first and foremost, with a few nifty gadgets on the side that will likely just collect dust. Thus Hades' point of view ("the games are all that matter") is valid, though a bit off topic since this discussion is about Blue-Ray. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I agree, but the fact is Sony is spending a lot of money towards moving beyond the console stereotype. If it only manages to grab folks who rail about the game selection, the PS3 will fail. However, if BR/BD manages to deliver the goods... if it's so powerful I'm inclined to buy one, then I'll do the mkreku and buy a PS3 based on BD. Hades is entirely right from a consumer's point of view. I say that without irony, I agree with him. ...But it's not that cut and dried from Sony's end. They didn't price themselves that high to appeal solely to console gamers. They've thrown out serious cash in order to enlarge their market. One of the big reasons I'm waiting on purchasing a console is that the lack of clarity on the DVD/BD issue. EDIT: Damned internet connection at my folks house.

Well, since the thread is now open, I have to say that I find the Teen v. Mature rating issue is interesting to me. I think that some games lend themselves to a teen rating. Adding overt mature themes to such games doesn't help them. For example, I like the campy feel to much of the Might and Magic series. Since it's a formula that works, why impose mature themes into it. Now, adding overt themes into a game just for the shock value doesn't make much sense either. Why have gratuitous violence and sex in a game for no other reason than the sex and violence? It would be easier to watch a pornographic film or look at a pleasant snuff movie. Now that I've said all that, I'd really, really like to see mature themes in many of these games. The demo to Hitman, which is something I have only had a chance to play once, brings some of that home. It depicts violence within the context of the story and, so far, the demo has not glorified or reveled in the violence. I don't believe, for a moment, that bristling at restraint constitutes artistic freedom. Having some desire to include sex and violence as a form of social protest is useless, worthless, and sometimes downright harmful. On the other hand, protesting against restraints on your artistic vision that mute your voice on serious social matters is entirely legitimate. Are you a fussy pants? I don't know. ...But some exploration of the mature central themes in a Fallout style game, which depicts a gritty world, are useful for many adults and imperative for many young adults. That's my sermon, at least.

What a yutz. I mean, this news is relevant and important. I mean, if it's news, because heaven knows we can't trust everything we read. Hell, Sony posts something that isn't as glowing about their product? It's probably Microsoft hacking itno their system. Goes both ways. Maybe it's Nintendo hacking into both sites and causing a war. Two man enter, Nintendo hides the bodies when no-one leaves. Who knows what's going on when there's so much information on one hand and cloak and dagger sorts of non-sense on the other. "ooo, did Ubi have a sheet over the 360 to show Assassin's Creed?" Might help if the source weren't some anonymous fellow at Microsoft. hahahaha Anyhow, what makes Epiphany a yutz is his manner of delivery. This is important news. With all respect to m'Lady and my stary friend, it's not just the games in this case. Sony is clearly banking on advancing beyond console status with this system. They want to define the next great movement in storage. They want to displace, in a significant way, current home theater systems. They want to encroach upon computers. No, it's not just about the games. If Blu-ray doesn't excel, it will hurt Sony. Skynet is right, however; we can't judge any of this until Sony finishes building the console. Then we won't be throwing out nearly as many theoretical assumptions about the hardware.

Come on, Don, give us some lovin'.

Great find, m'Lady.

Here I am at my Sister and Brother-in-Law's livingroom. This is my angry Eldar look. Now imagine me mashing my keys in rage and you know how I look when I'm posting as angry Eldar.

I'm going to have someone take a picture of me in my mean looking mode. hahaha :Eldar's a big fluffy teddy-bear sort of fellow icon: Hope to post soon.

"GameSpot News contacted Ubisoft to set the record straight. "Assassin's Creed was being shown on a PC emulating a PlayStation 3," a rep told GameSpot News. The systems were out of view, so we'll take Ubisoft's word as to what the game was running on." This is from your own post, mkreku. I mean, I don't understand the ins and outs of the issue, but clearly it was not running on PS3 hardware. That's according to Ubisoft. Unless, of course, GameSpot is literally lying. Now, whether the game will look better or worse or different on an actual PS3 is not the point. The point is, we don't know how the game will run on the PS3 until we have a PS3 to run it. It's not like it matters to me. I'm taking these stealth games one at a time. Plus, I'm not likely to have any next gen consoles before Ubisoft releases the title.

Yeah, it did. I was imbibing a bit while I was working last night.

I saw Far Cry for ten bucks when picking up a cooling tray for my laptop. Recalling mkreku's words, I went ahead and bought it. Of course, what a waste of time as I haven't had time to play it. I guess I'm playing the "thinking about playing Far Cry even thought I don't have the time" game.

To be fair, that's still not PS3 hardware. Still, it sounds like someone's a swine-hearted wretch over at the Microsoft booth. These people are all a bunch of back biting wretches. Well, they're probably nice enough when you get them away from this sort of stuff.

"[m]y concern is with the repeated aspersions that are cast in that document on the intellectual honesty of the High Court Judge from whose decision this appeal is brought... Fearless advocacy is one thing; intemperate advocacy is another." Hahahahaha several minutes later hahahahaha Some time after that hahahahaha Eventually hahahahahaha whew a minute later hahahahaha Seriously, though, that was funny. These guys are all the same. Don't make the mistake of thinking Microsoft wouldn't sell Gate's mother if it thought it could get 34.2 billion. Well, maybe not. I'm sure there are bounds of decency beyond which even Microsoft and Sony would not pass. Still, MS would do a lot to get that kind of scratch.

The Fallout crazies will get ahold of these people and then it will be a called shot to the groin with a triple crit and massive damage.

Comedy. I love it. Number 47 converts to Catholicism and Number 2 hits the fan.

hehehe Damn, I'm listening to my own thoughts as I sit typing in my mom and dad's house. Better put on something cheerful before I end up in a bad neighborhood. :D

Well, I'm still looking at the demo, but the gameplay looks fun so I'll probably pick up the title. Normally, I don't use a demo to decide on a game, but you folks had me convinced as to the story and the premise already. It was just a question of whether or not I could handle the mechanics. Nevertheless, I was impressed by a couple of things, even from the demo. First of all, Ave Maria for the opening credits was genius. I really like the feel. As a Catholic, this particular song resonates with my more religious side. It provides a surreal experience and another layer of meaning for a game in which I play a cold blooded killer. Second of all, considering it was the demo, I was impressed that they made the game gritty on one end but personal on the other. The two gangstas talk like hardened hoods, but you notice that one of them is going through an ugly divorce that causes him concern and his friend is trying to comfort him in his own way. Sure, they're despicable, but they're also human. Then there is a man who cannot endure the loss of his son and a wife who despairs at her incosolable husband. The villain who caused so much grief and suffering? He didn't decide to kill all those children. He made a mistake. He compounded a bad decisions by making another. In one last attempt to dig himself out of the grave he has fashioned for himself, he contracts with a gang to manufacture drugs. His wife has left whereas the gangsters will not. Now I come for him, and my name is vengeance. Our hero(?) brings justice(?) in the form of a bullet. I don't revel in the bloodshed and gore. I don't like playing the bad guy. However, I find some errant thought, some strange notion playing in the back of my head. It is not for the opportunity to murder vicariously that I continue to play. It is because there is something else. What it is, I cannot say.

Other than some recommendations from a couple of friends, I'm listening to Baby it's Cold Outside. I'm listening to the Rod Stewart and Dino versions.

Some of you have received more personal wishes, but let me say to you Oilers lot as a whole that I feel your pain. Because of you guys, I was pulling for the team, but it was not meant to be. Still, whip 'em next season!

Wow, that's an interesting idea, Bok. I'll try it just for laughs when I get home. Am I wrong in supposing that there isn't a save feature in Hitman? Could be a problem, I suppose, but as long as it's within reason, I'll live with it.
