  1. Hmmmm, Well if your ex built it, we could argue it wasn't free.... But I'd rather not. I r use'in a Sony Vaio(Laptop) Mobile Intel Pentium 4, 2.8GHz 512Mb RAM Geforce FX Go5700 64Mb RAM Desktop is (Home built) AMD Athlon 64 3700+ 1Gb RAM PNY Geforce 6600 256Mb RAM Pr0n.
  2. The ultima gaming machine, Diamond!!!!
  3. Yes, it is not a small undertaking. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Hmmmm, A long task, but the engine structure is probably the reason for that, their is no reason they shouldn't have had horses in, unless their are some major engine based reasons, frankly I'm disappointed. It is actually something that it is possible to do and do well so it's sad that they haven't! What's your exact thinking as to why they haven't?
  4. you should hear estonian man.... That is a very musical language, but hey the singing nation and all that.
  5. JE wasn't all that great though, certainly one of the better games I have played on the XBOX
  6. How is obsidian situated for offering internships? It's a common part of computer science & Computer games related degree's.
  7. Okay, we get it, you're a feminist and like evil things. It'd still suck. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> It'd really suck, get it right.
  8. When I'm Naked. When I'm Happy. When I'm Bored. When I'm Sad. When I'm Working. When I'm doing nothing better than reading and posting.
  9. Rap is music. It's a exceptionally poor and repetative style of music. It makes even the most minimalistic of pieces seem complex.
  10. It's something tha only a coder would most likely understand. There can be certain parts of code in a game for example that are so clever, and work so beautifully that it can be appriciated as being art, because it's been constructed with such skill, and such imagination. Yet the end user usually doesn't see this, and better still, the end user can't even tell that he's probably being tricked! As for that efficiant memory management algorithm, that works like magic, well nobody even notices.
  11. Depends on the overall structure, if the engine has a good design, which it appears to have as the obsidian folks have rewritten the render side of the engine, then technically it should be easy to move it to an in-house engine of similar design structure. As for who it belongs to that is a legal question that's most likely in the contract that was drawn up. I doubt we're actually going to find out who it belongs to most likely it'll only ever be used in NWN2, but lessons learned will be extrememly valuable for development of future titles at obsidian.
  12. I'd got for 3DS Max just because it's pretty much the standard in the games industry.
  13. Computer games most certainly are an artform, but like any artform you get good and bad art. Thing is, some of the artistic quality isn't even recognised by the end user. The art is partially in trickery.
  14. It was boring, American football *Yawn*. I'll stick to Rugby.
  15. Artists doing math! WHAT IS THE WORLD COMING TO! Matrices are pretty much standard in 3D graphics programming, I haven't as of yet found a need to do Quaternion rotation in the engine. Here's the irony - Our degree doesn't even have a math module, we have to learn it ourselves, how great is that!
  16. just wondering who had heard of them and what they think, they're playing where I work tomorrow, huge gig sold out in five minutes!
  17. yeah that sounds about right, but wednesday morning to thursday evening isn't that harsh, problem is that if you don't have any sleep at all simple things take much longer to implement, you make a hell of alot more mistakes atleast that is what i have found. Longest I've crunch was friday morning through to tuesday morning the next week, I was basically sleeping for 2 hours then coding for the rest... Took me a week to recover. anyways I'm glad it went well for you!
  18. So how did your project go Kraten? and how did you find the crunch? (w00t)
  19. True. But as I've done some before I know the methods of working out, rules and suchlike it shouldn't be too bad. Maths is simple anyway, as long as you can remember the methods for working everything out. I didn't just do it in yr 9 either I did the stuff up to yr 11 and still learn new stuff about it because almost all of my mates do A-Level and do hwk while I'm with them so I am learning new stuff anyway, just not off teachers. EDIT: Also does anyone know of any decent basic tutorials for learnining C/C++ just eough for me to get the jist of it so I can get a basic knowledge. Thanks. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I use books mostly, take a look on gamedev.net they have some good advice for beginners. As for the math, yeah it's easy in a maths context but it's not always clear on what is best to use for a problem in a program, especially in games... sometimes you have to do WRONG math, to get an answer quickly, so you don't always answer the question in a correct math context.

  21. If I were reading this, it would indicate to me that a wolf has a higher "mental" stat than a human, which shouldn't be the case. The description needs to be changed to cognition and precognition, otherwise you need to rename "mental" to "instinct." Mental should be things like "rubbing myself with dirt can throw off a wolf's sent." In fact, I would suggest you add an "Instinct" stat, with boars being the lowest, humans being in the middle and wolves being the highest. 1 = excellent survival, 5 = survive and hunt, 10 = excellent hunting. There is no "best" on this scale, instead it would provide queues based on the score. The closer the score is in relation to survival vs. hunting, the better the clues are on each. A 10 would get proactive hunting tips like "there is a valley ahead, valleys are good for traps." While a 0 would get "there is a valley ahead, staying out of valleys helps me to survive." Just some food for thought. Just because a game was simple does not mean things should be overly simplified. Otherwise you get things like Hades got above, wherein wolves appear to be smarter than humans. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> True that would have made any expansion upon the rules a bit odd, but you have to bare in mind that it would all be hidden.

  23. Depends how smart you are I guess... Maths isn't exactly a prerequist, wasn't for me anyways. I've had to teach myself the math, ontop of the general workload... Trigonometry, Matricies, Vectors, Algebra, Calculas & Physics knowledge is the basics of what you need. There is more, but that should atleast get you thinking. As for how much of it is maths heh... All of it is at some level, programming for the most part is just maths. If you don't like or enjoy maths - find something else.
  24. Sometimes it's just nice to read from paper instead of a screen.
