AFAIK, on next gen. consoles some developers are dedicating one of cores, to the physical calculations. This is the way of implementing Ageia Physics on consoles. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I don't know if the performance gain is the same.

<_< this isn't new to me, I've been looking at the SDK and API for a while. I'm pretty excited about the whole PPU thing. The API is to the PPU, what DirectX and OpenGL is to the GPU. Physics processing & Graphics processing arn't that far apart, you can for example currently hi-jack the GPU to perform certain collision detection computation. Naturally they're not the same beast... As for AI, I believe that'll stay on the CPU, AI is a RAM hog mostly, by taking the load for collisions and physics to a seperate card, along with the load for graphics being outsourced, aswell as sound... well you get my point here, itr leaves the CPU a little freer, so we should see beter AI as a result aswell .

recommended schools for programming
@\NightandtheShape/@ replied to pants_happy's topic in Developers' Corner
Lets see... University of Aberty, Dundee, up in Scotland. University of Huddersfield, West Yorkshire. University of Teeside, Middlesbrough Area Lincon University, Linconshire. I'm sure there are other places, but these places all do games based courses, in programming and design. I could have gone to any, but I opted for Huddersfield, sometimes i regret that choice, othertimes I don't. I personally feel that computer games programming is harder than computer science, I know that i personally have a much heavier work load than the computer science students, from my experience the course I am doing is basically 2 parts computer science, 1 part games. There is a hell of alot of maths involved, it's also alot of hard work, and I mean alot of it. -
Last i knew intel chips had stupid pipelines... that's a bad thing

Intel chips pfffft

lol... I personally have in the region of 30 books, which are mostly on the floor aswell, I keep them in disorganised piles. I have three maths books, and a physics book. My current favourite Fractals and chaos. Ontop of that I have variety of books concerned with AI, Direct X 9, C++ and general games programming theory & concepts. I can imagine that the devs have a similar collection... But that is speculation naturally.

help us find a game engine

It shouldn't be too hard to find a good game engine, but to be honest it's always better to develop ones own. -
Thanks dude

Which Licensed RPG as a CRPG?
@\NightandtheShape/@ replied to saintfrancisnudecenterfold's topic in Computer and Console
Traveller would be nice, alwaya was a bit partial to it since being a kid! Shame, i doubt it'll be seen, -
Interesting are we talking technical books?

I like the general principle, would you like to flesh it out a little bit? make it workable, provide a few examples... I know how you are with rules .
-
I've already taken into account ideas such a general sensory information, and terrain traversal difficulty. The idea is simple enough, one group of boars, the human player, and a wolf pack. The player is hunting the boars, the wolves are hunting the player. So a wolf would have information such as sight, sound, & smell. Also they've the ability to communicate via howling. The player has obviously sound and sight. The boars have sound, sight, and smell to an extent. Different terrains have different speeds at which the PC & NPC can traverse. So the idea rule wise is basic, there is no point have'in an intricate rule system until I can proove several concepts I have are workable, which they should be... After which I would most certainly add in much more.

Naturally I can imagine your project is a priority right now, and I understand why.... I'm not in urgent need of any textures so after the 19th if you wish, I'll outline requirements, and then you can decide .

Neverwinter Nights 2 new screenshots!
@\NightandtheShape/@ replied to Meshugger's topic in Computer and Console
I've seen better flame effects... The floor texture is also rather bland. Doesn't look bad, but... Well I wouldn't say it's a graphical marval. Nice, but not wow. -
I can certainly understand the limits and frustration flash must be causing... but the effect of the tiles is atleast pleasant, I like how they look. I'm pretty sure you know how a texture works in 3D, are you firmiliar with specular mapping, and bump mapping? If you have questions then I'm pretty sure I should be able to answer them. Currently the engine generates textures on a pixel to quad basis, the lighting is actually pre-calculated, to generate a shade of the said colour. This is a temp solution and purely for the basis of playing a visual aid, at the time I required speed of production and not quality. The texturing technique i eventually plan on using is a texture blending technique. Example A: Example B: A & B can be combined to provide some rather interesting results, infact any said number of textures can be combined upon the edges, or even togeather. Example C: ^ Kinda result possible. I'm always happy to use peoples actual artwork in conjunction with my own work. A friend of mine in canada has created 2D artwork for me in the past, but that is generic 2D art such as: Would you like to give it a shot?

Due to the fact the last thread I made was derailed, that's a kind asking to folks to not spam this thread(thanks in advance). Anyways, pictures of the prealpha version of the engine I am working upon. Hades, yes I need a rules system... Kraften, we were talking of texturing? Any comments are welcome Please find attached, images of the engine.

Feargus isn't out to destroy Obsidian. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Feargus only destroy's his lowly minions, MCA has mention several times the harsh treatment that Feargus dishes out to the poor devs forced out of a need to eat have to put up with. Fear it's in the name. *Begins to shake*

Yeah but death by a shot to the head while preparing to hump a water melon into sticky wet mush is clearly the funniest way to go out if you ask me. -
