  1. FWIW, Klauth had 9th level spells. But they gave him such a bad spell list that he probably shouldn't use them, and his casting level is nerfed. I'll vote the NWN OC as being disappointing. The game itself worked out just fine for me.
  2. If they really don't think KotOR is official, they're doing a very poor job of conveying that.
  3. Beats what happened in the FO 2 patch. The kid thieves weren't removed from the game -- just made invisible.
  4. The big problem is that making KotOR maps is very hard. Not too many of us have the 3d modelling skills you need. Other than that, this isn't too different from NWN.
  5. That's simply untrue. Doing all the quests in Hommlet can just about get you to level 2 before doing the Moathouse, plus you get one of the best magic swords in the game if you marry Meleny. (What super-genius at Troika decided that only one person in the party could get married, anyway).
  6. Even crappy PCs can run KotOR. I ran KotOR on a machine with Intel integrated video, and it worked OK. That's my work machine -- my gaming machine's got a Kyro 2 vidcard. No T&L means really bad lighting.
  7. Maybe on the X-Box. On the PC Bastila doesn't spawn into the victory celebration if she's dead. I just loaded up a save to see for myself.
  8. But isn't that an appropriate way to measure time passing in the game? Can't do it by the clock because there isn't any. You can tick time off by plot points too, but in the end it amounts to the same thing, since you're gaining XP if you're advancing the plot.
  9. If the game seems great for two playthroughs, maybe Bio doesn't care if it doesn't hold up after that. They're not going to sell more games that way, so who cares? This isn't much of an argument unless you know and care about the EU. And since LucasArts routinely breaks EU continuity --- and has approved Kotor 1 both as a product and as part of the EU --- exactly who is this argument aimed at? No, Carth knew exactly what was going on. His paranoia, in the end, is fully justified, especially if you go DS. I don't understand what you're trying to say about Bastila. There's no evidence whatsoever that Zaalbar hates the PC, though he does have a rather reserved way of speaking. You're right that Zaalbar and Teethree don't have much dialog with the PC. I'll bet that's because they were put off until later. You could skip those two when assigning voice acting since they don't need to be acted. Then crunch time came around and there wasn't time to finish them. Teethree has dialogs on Korriban, but nowhere else, which might indicate some designers dropped the ball.
  10. Maybe they're not impressed by the improvements. I thought Kotor 1 had too many items as it was, so the workbench and all of that is a step backwards for me (though since you don't have to use that junk, it isn't a big deal).
  11. I'm pretty sure Bastila doesn't show in the end cutscene if she's dead. @Muad'Dib -- I liked the PS:T ending, precisely because it was so open-ended. So did others.
  12. So we disagreed on BG1>Bg2. Not too important now. On the main point, I'm going to agree with you, SS., or at least consider it a possiblility. Why not believe KotOR 2 is too good for a lot of gamers? We've bleieved that about PS:T for a long time. There's no evidence that the game is anything but a success in any event.
  13. Naso's probably playing on an unsupported vidcard. I'm not aware of any significant KotOR bugs that aren't video-related.
  14. Going back a bit.... Assuming that "lawnmower exploration areas" are doing something right, of course. I was pleased that they were gone, since I always thought that was a dopey convention in CRPGs. The point is, there's no right answer to that question. There's a majority answer, and a minority answer, true. But knowing that other people liked or disliked a feature doesn't tell me anything useful. What counts is why someone likes or dislikes it, which might tell me how I'll feel about it. From what I've read so far, I think I'll like the KotOR 2 plot but hate the overemphasis on items and the unbalanced powers.
  15. Haha, this reminds me of playing Pazzak in Kotor 1 and 2. I would build up a perfect hand of 20, only to have my computer opponent hit 20 as well to tie the set. This happens alot more than what would seem mathematically possible. - dr cloak <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Someone from Obsidian said that when they got their hands on the code, the first thing he did was tear the pazzak game open to see if it cheated. It didn't.
  16. Two possibilities: - you are using incompatible mods - very likely some .2da file conflict (would be caused by other mods than the alternate DS ending) or - placed the files in the wrong folder - make sure the files are not placed in another folder inside the main folder. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I got the same results using the Holocron Plug-In, which isn't a manual install. Edit: this is getting weird. I uninstalled all mods, and now KotOR crashes whenever a movie plays in-game (playing them from the menu works fine). Screws up my video controller too. I don't see any obvious way that installing these mods can do that, but that's what happened. Edit again: I think I see why Bio refused to even let us discuss mods. Edit x3: had to delete and reinstall to get things working again. I think I'll refrain from modding the game.
  17. Just to move on from the pointlessness, I've found that installing mods - any mods - causes my game to crash. Pity: I was looking forward to the alternate DF female ending.
  18. If the feature wasn't working, it should have been cut. Simple as that.
  19. How'd you feel about KotOR?
  20. The plot, characters, and settings were all Bio's work. Black Isle did stuff like voice talent and whatnot. And yes, Bio's gotten away from the world exploration of BG1. I think this is a design preference for them; I'll be extremely surprised if DA plays more like BG1 than BG2. As for the topic, it's hard to see how the two games are in competition, though I guess DA could release at about the same time as an NWN2 expansion.
  21. Ummm... there is this little thing called KotOR 2, you know.
  22. Maybe because that's the kind of mod he wants for KOTOR? But that sort of mod isn't going to happen, so let's all move on. @kbned: what is your damage, dude? You seem to be incapable of talking about mods without turning it into some sort of pissing contest.
  23. For what it's worth, the term "module" originated with PnP D&D.
  24. hosagi, do you have something against using actual sentences in your posts? I kind of like 3rd ed.'s combat system, although I really wish they had kept phased initiative.
  25. Cost isn't the issue. the issue is annoyance. Even if someone gave me a DVD drive free it wouldn't be worth my time to crack my case and install the drive.
