Parking ticket!
Put yourself in their situation, how many times do you think they hear people trying to explain their way out of a ticket? I think a policeman would have done exactly the same. In your case it was just one of those incidents where it appears the story was actually true, so yeah that did suck. And I don't know what "deck" means, but if it implies anything like verbal aggression and/or violence, then I'm pleased you didn't do it. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> "Deck", as in "make him hit", with a large quantity of momentum. As it happened I suppose I could have written to the local authority with the surgeon's explicit affidavit, but at the time it was the least of our concerns, by a long margin.

The thread of world events
I've heard the "advanced civilization that pre-dates the Egyptians" theory, and the evidence of pyramid-like structures in all the continents (e.g. Ziggurats) ... specifically the Sphinx was changed by the Egyptians, from being a large life-like lion, to a lion with the head of a pharoah (which is out of proportion to the body of the Sphinx).

Movies You Have Seen Lately
Hee hee: that made me giggle. Perfect SF plot fodder! That's what swung the balance for me: Unobtainium! Perfect: they can make this into an RPG! How can you NOT like a film with a geek hero?! But, Dr Arrogant explained in the film that the core was thinner there! I giggled at that, too. The super-scientists just forgot to explain that bit of technology; I'll bet it's in the Special Edition ... Rolling on the floor at this point ... I was just watching Ms Swank at this point ... You're right, though, given a different day, I might very well have panned this for the awful science. But any film that is based on a "ship" that goes to the core of the Earth is not going to be hard science, so I was expecting something fit for Science Theatre 3000.

Who wants a UNITED north america?
Canada does a wonderful job of buffering the US, whilst being beyond the balance sheet of Congress. By "annex" you seem to be suggesting using force. In short, it is the dumbest idea I've read this year.

A policeman might have been a little more receptive to my explanation.- Parking ticket!
Yes, I was in a great mood when I got to the car after the sub-two minute expiry, after having just driven at super-speed from the Home Counties to make the emergeny run to the hospital, I can tell you. I didn't deck the guy.- The thread of world events

The Core. Pretty decent SF film. Hillary Swank plays gorgeous well.- D&D crpg levels
My recall might be a bit rusty; I haven't played HotU and the vault for over a year (heck, I haven't played the original for about three years). (I was actually trying to recall the details from this mod.) Can't remember if it was my Guardian or Sentinel, but the PC had way more than 1000 vitality (and, consequently, so did Darth Traya).- D&D crpg levels
NwN = finish with PC level 10-12 SoU = finish with PC level 19-22 HotU = finish with PC level 26-28 I tend to agree with Eldar. Epic level characters tend to bend the rules to breaking point; I just don't think d20 gives enough granuality / resolution for higher level PCs, and NPCs seem to act outside the boundaries of the rulesets (the demon in HotU, for example, before the PC is sent to the frozen hell). The main constraint is the level must be commensurate with the story; I can't tell for certain, but I'd bet London Bridge to a brick that the KotOR:TSL XP reward was increased (I'd say doubled), and I'd put double-or-nothing that it was to ensure that players could have PCs break the magic level 20 barrier that was so much bemoaned by the players of the forst KotOR. The fact that one of my PCs had something in the order of 1500 hit points (or vitality, or whatever they were called) and some similar amount of magic ("Force" points) was patently silly. Just giving enemies more hitpoints doesn't make for a better fight: they need more battle skills, strategy and tactics, etc. I think the level mechanism is far too clumsy to be used as the only means for escalating tension through the narrative.- I'm an introverted

I think it is more to do with non-disclosure agreements when staff transfer to new companies: I can't remember too many companies that I have left that would be happy to have any of their IP even indirectly mentioned in conversations with other companies' staff. It sounds pretty much like that here, although I agree I'd like to have some sort of exclusive first notice for being an active member here.
