  1. With a regular publisher - yes, without a doubt. But with an indie dev like Obsidian I had the apparently foolish illusion they'd actually care enough o think about things like that and release the beta at, say, 8 am local time, so people in other parts of the world would have a chance to play at the stated date as well. But now that I know I'll add another day to any future date they post, just to be sure not to be disappointed again. The obvious answer is Obsidian hates non-Americans. ...everyone does.
  2. Reading through the threads when a big game is being released - the non-US gamers are repeatedly surprised when the game's stated release date has passed them by and they are in the wee hours of the next morning. Isn't it always like that? Wouldn't it be wise to think something along the lines of "Ok, the release date is the 18th. But they're filthy slackjawed Yanks who live on an extremely inconvenient continent with it's own ridiculous time zone, so when they say the 18th, what that really means for me is the 19th, at an hour that is probably so ungodly that even my trusty chamomile tea won't cheer me up. Bugger."???
  3. Nothing against Oregon but somehow its timezone never bothered me. Which is more than I can say about San Francisco, LA and San Diego being in that temporal netherland. Ah, California. A magical land of fruits and flakes.
  4. I think it's pretty much an international consensus that Pacific Time is the shŃ–ttiest time zone in existence. Too bad some idiot decided to put California in there. Greetings from Portland. My flannel shirt still looks fly.
  5. I think the more degenerate behaviors would start showing up more often if people were certain of reincarnation. Once someone is certain that they aren't accountable to a supreme being, they then only must answer to themselves.
  6. Companions - growth in power and believable psychological reactance to the world and the PC Key Characters/various non-party member NPC's - eh...it annoys me when the first 9 townspeople are named townsperson and they all say identical things when spoken to, all of which is lore-dumping, and then the 10th townsperson has a proper name and meaningful dialogue. Antagonists - If they oppose my worldview/behaviors, we either debate or fight. If we agree, then I'm allowed to team up with them to be the new mayor of E-ville.
  7. Outskirts of Portland, OR. Cesspit of dirt-worshipping tree huggers and other scum. But Portlandia, so yay
  8. I like them a lot. I understand that there might be some who don't like them, however. There are a few things I want to say to those people. 1. You're probably a bad person. 2. Love it or leave it. 3. These colors don't run.
  9. I can't help but wonder where you go if you crawl through one of the smaller portal holes in that thing... Being John Malkovich
  10. I think if it's made too easy it's like "why even bother doing it?", but if it's ridonk like it could at times be in the original games then it's a chore. Stuff like this is where I rely on creative people to invent ways of making it better while I gratefully reap the rewards of improved gameplay.
  11. If your computer alerted you of a virus, but you weren't done browsing r/aww yet, would taking care of the virus anyway make you its bitch?
  12. How will we be notified of something happening back at our stronghold while we're out macing evil in the face? A rider comes up to us? A bird swoops in and drops off a message? How about if we're on level 8 of the mega dungeon? Please discuss amongst yourselves while I watch. My preference is just that it's not some text message popup...like something should actually come and alert you. Ok...speculate away. Bye.
  13. On most any other game, my response to this would be that since it's a video game, I suppose I expect faith-based issues to be handled as they (for the most part) have been so many times before. That is to say...lazily. The Honest Hearts expansion pack for New Vegas leads me to think that they'll throw in at least a few modestly fair depictions of humbled, faithful people, without resorting to the overplayed "superstitious/we-just-poor-dumb-peasants" angle. Of course there have to be evil cults and all that, they definitely need smiting. But this whole realm of questioning is more exciting when put into the new Torment game...it's basically an interactive philosophy course with critical hits. Can't wait!
