Isnt OE's influence companion system a bit counterproductive to roleplaying?
If this kind of conversation gets the world RPG gamers' approval, I can see Chris Avellone will be out of job in the next few years.

Examples of Great Writing in CRPGs
I suddenly have the strangest desire, HOPING Obsidian would buy the Anachronox IP from Eidos.

Examples of Great Writing in CRPGs
Anachronox has awesome NPCs in terms of strangeness. Right next to PS:T. I mean, how many games has a shrunken planet as your PC which uses its Orbital defence system to perform its attacks? Magnificent!

Good co-op games?
There's an Unreal tournament 2004 mod by the name of "Alien Breed" I think. Awesome coop that is. Its an over the top view shooting game with an atmosphere similar to Starcraft and Aliens and the players will have to work together to accomplish objectives.

Blog o' Romance
Tragedies in entertainment can be successful if done right with a sense of a 'happy ending' closure. James Cameron's Titanic anyone?

Blog o' Romance
But Aeris tragedy is somewhat similar to along the lines of Shandra I think. Both are linear and choices you make won't change their outcome in the end. Lastly, while both are potentials for romance characters, they became the subject of hate-mances instead.

Silicon Knights suing Epic over Unreal Engine 3
Based on my experience with UE3 game engine on PC, which is Rainbow Six Vegas to be specific, is officially sucks now. DIE UE3! DIE!

Blog o' Romance
I will agree with you Chris that doomed or tragic romance is often more touching and dramatic than 'happily ever after' kind. However do note that this kind of ending, often leaves many viewers feeling unsatisfied with the conclusion. That is why they resort to writing fan fictions or venting at you for breaking their hearts. So an alternative would be giving the players a choice to experience both kind of endings in the game. One tragic, the other a satisfying kind. An example of such game? Your very own Knights of the Old Republic 2's Atton Rand with his several possible conclusive outcomes. Another thing I feel is that, romance is should never be declared openly or blatantly between the characters. Like you mentioned, it works best by dropping hints or occasional exchanges in flirting. Also I thought that Obsidian could use the PC's attributes to provide players with bonus influence points with certain opposite NPCs based on their first encounter and impressions. For instance some women enjoy men with muscular body(strength check). Some prefer intelligent/wise characters(Intelligence/Wisdom check) while others simply like good looking ones(Charisma check)

Silicon Knights suing Epic over Unreal Engine 3
Even if they have problems they can't report it openly to the public since it will be a breach of contract I think. The only way to report it openly is via suing in court. Not sure if many people notice this that the games that uses Unreal Engine 3 had been involved in many delays?

Silicon Knights suing Epic over Unreal Engine 3
http://kotaku.com/gaming/breaking/silicon-...d-us-280491.php Apparently Epic is being sued due over limited functionality Unreal 3 Engine gives. Silicon Knights by the way is notable for Eternal Darkness and the first Legacy of Kain series. Considering that Obsidian had licensed the Unreal engine and if this news is true... meh. Thank goodness the Aliens RPG game engine is in-house made. Update: Another related news to the Unreal engine: http://kotaku.com/gaming/busted/unreal-eng...late-280548.php

What game would you rather see Obsidian work on
Would be awesome if Obsidian could make a Syndicate Wars RPG.

Movies You Have Seen Lately
Just came back watching Transformers. Its surprisingly good and that the concept they introduce the transformers in the movie is in a much more believable and realistic, in a science fiction manner. Notable actor would be Shia Belouf. His performance certainly cracked up many audiences in the theatre with his on screen improvisional jokes.

Transformers the Movie
I just returned from watching the movie. I can only express it with little objectivity in the current drunken stupor mood I am in. Its super mega <beep!> awesome! I think I can safely say majority of the die hard transformer fans would love this movie though its disappointing that the Decepticons didn't get enough screen time. Otherwise the story build up leading to the first scene of Optimus Prime makes the inner child inside me feel giddy. Surprisingly there are many funny scenes in the movie with Shia LaBeouf being notable for his improvision of making on screen jokes. Also Hugo Weaving's voice acting for Megatron won't affect much to all since he doesn't get much screentime and its being digitally altered to sound more robotic. Safe to say, a lot of people will have a newfound love for Bumblebee in this movie. *Goes off to buy the Bumblebee plush toy*

Best Game Soundtracks
Personally, I prefer 40K soundtracks from a very old X-COM like WarHammer 40K game known as "Chaos Gate". Now that music totally captures the 40K atmosphere unlike Soule in my opinion.

this'll be unique
Gundam Seed is the sucks. Watch Gundam:0080 War in the Pocket instead or the 8th MS team.

Games you are looking forward to
Looking forward to the newest fourth installment of the "Legend of the sword and fairy" series. Western gamers are unlikely to be aware of this series but its being heavily worshiped by the Chinese gamers due to its fantastic storyline of love and tragedy, the visual presentation(Beautiful artwork) and its music. Graphic wise of course, its out of date but its the substance that counts right? I still couldn't get over the first ending of the game. Eyes so wet ::Sobs::
