SW: The Old Republic - Episode VI (The Old Menace)
Gorth replied to Gorth's topic in Computer and Console
Double post, yay (rather than edit2 on the above). Got two characters soloing the Oricon weekly now. I really need to find a guild on the Republic side of things some day. Those heroics are just too much hard work to be fun when soloing. Weekly rep cap is also a small problem (got 20 rep tokens amongst characters waiting for weekly rep reset). Only a problem for another week though, as I will have maxed out completely then. Same thing with Czerka (where you can at least us groupfinder for the flashpoints, beating heroics hands down in fun factor). Welcome to the wonderful world of tanking... What class are you playing as tank? I've got a Powertech (main) a Shadow (only level 37 so far) and a Sith Warrior with two gear sets (tank gear is "only" the Oricon gear set for completing it plus shield, implants, saber etc.) and field respec (mostly plays as DPS, but can change to tank in a minute and a half). It's very different in the group dynamics and like a spider, you meed at least 8 eyes in your head sometimes- 505 replies

I noticed back when we got the "official" message, that his obituary was dated only very shortly after his last forum post. Always wish I'd had had some better parting words, but you never know when a message is going to be the last "for real". Hope he's in a place with endless beer and women... As for taks, yeah, wondered where he disappeared to. Maybe us getting overrun by commies and socialists was too much to swallow, or he's just sitting and lurking somewhere with a laptop on a Colorado mountain top, laughing his butt off at us. At least, I hope so.

SW: The Old Republic - Episode VI (The Old Menace)

Hope you had fun. I know I like the game, plays it way more than good is Decided to put a hold on my excessive spending for a few days, just so I could get the "Fabolously/Exorbitantly Rich" achievement (or whatever that $10M+ achievement is called). Mostly my credits is spread amongst my toons, so I tried to send it to a single character. According to the latest math geniuses on the forums, the most important stats for powertech tanks are all those that are *not* present in vendor gear. Defense, Shield and Absorption in that order is what to strive for. What the vendors offer is dropping the first two and get Absorption, Absorption and more Absorption. I wish Bioware would update that gear when they change game formulas. It may have been good gear in version 1.0, although I weren't around at the time to check. mandatory weekly whinge about tank gear here> They also haven't fixed the spelling error in the Oriconian demolisher (tank) implant, so it's dumped to the bottom of the list and looks like it's missing (as it isn't listed together with all the other demolisher gear). Yeah, bug reported like 3 months ago, they still haven't fixed the typo in the name. EditL Another bug, which I would consider in the "bizarre" category is, out of my 5 level 55 characters doing heroic space missions, my Sith Warrior has a strange bug where the Duma Strike mission gets magically replaced by Kantz Minefield overnight when logged out. Not a big deal, except it means he can't do the Duma Strike/Cha Raaba missions as a pair and get the weekend bonus. He can still get it, but he'll have to fly it twice then, the same day the first mission is available and then the same mission again without reward to get the double. Since it seems to happen consistently, I'm going to take a few screenshots of his quest log with datestamps next weekend.- 505 replies

Loved the X-Com games since trying UFO: Enemy Unknown on my Amiga way back in time... favourite is X-Com 3 - Apocaplyse (which probably makes me a minority). Second best tactical combat system and semi autonomous game world since JA2. Oh, and I hated the latest addition to the franchise, cursing the family trees and fertility of every person responsible for its making.

Your favourite game list after RPGCodex revealed theirs
Gorth replied to IndiraLightfoot's topic in Computer and Console
I guess there is no point in trying to first determine what is an RPG, then list 10 games and then argue why they should or should not be on a list of RPG's? My list includes several "hybrids" Lords of Midnight (Best game ever, no contest.) Planescape; Torment (The whole is greater than the part sum, awful combat included) Jagged Alliance 2 (Best tactical squad based game out there, hilarious cast of party members and so much to do and live with the consequences of what you do) Temple of Apshai (Naive by any modern standards, including looking up text in manual because it was too large to fit in game) Fallout (or Fallout 2... loved both for different reasons) Baldurs Gate 2 (Somebody once said size is a quality of its own. Know what? He was right) Rogue (The grandfather of a large number of dungeon crawlers, including Nethack) Ultima IV (C64 version, bought the boxed set with cloth map and plastic map, still go to Youtube just to play the haunting music, so superior to the PC version) Alternate Reality (Amiga version, such a great idea, sadly died without the intended expansions that should have fleshed it out. DLC long before anyone coined the term) Deathknights of Krynn (Whole Krynn trilogy actually, I was really into the Dragonlance setting back then) -
Certain about that? How often do you do something truly random and how often do you do something is part of your nature? Is the very existence of this post triggering the part of your personality that feels compelled to reply or the one that feels it isn't worth the hassle? Was the outcome inevitable (i.e. you replied or not)?

Maybe one day they will be able to quantify things like feelings instead of just brain activity but we are not that close to it. Feelings are like the static electricity of the brain. It's a byproduct of all the useful things your brain does and then suddenly if goes "Zapp!" and you can start doing repairs on all the things your feelings wrecked

I haven't tried the new FP yet, but hey, maybe they'll tweak it. If they created a bunch of new assets, they may as well try to adjust it to make more people happy. Got peer pressured by guild into doing a "stand-in" job as DPS (which I suck at, even if respecced, as my gear is abysmal for damage dealing) in one of the dread something ops (a motley crew of chunks of people from various guilds), for a weekly thing. Just somewhere in the middle of the ops. Got the weekly alright and then kicked good by some Brontes figure, as I seemed to be the one of the few remembering the instructions, *trying* (and died trying) to kill the robots clockwise before it got zapped in one of the last phases  Still, the coms for the weekly were nice. I would like one day to play it from the beginning though. Started populating my new armour set with basic com mods and augments, so I can switch "on the fly" between Tank and DPS (got field respec a long time ago). I'll probably transfer one of my level 55 characters to Harbinger this weekend, just to see if it works and because I don't have any connections in republic side on my current server anyway.- 505 replies

As in most people would at least recognise the name (Dungeons & Dragons), even if not knowing much about what the name/title covered.

Is it? Maybe it's just in a medically induced coma? On a more serious note, it does seem to have faded from general awareness. Either they are keeping very low profile or it has just been forgotten by the "masses". Not sure who their target audience is these days, but other than the Neverwinter Online MMO, I haven't noticed anything video game related for a long while.

Well, they are "repeatable", but you get no rewards whatsoever I think. Two of us ran the other two though the first heroics, despite having done it before, just so the 4 of use were at the same stage, ready to do the last one. I sort of need to learn them, as I got four more level 55's (as my sniper has now dinged in at level 55 too and started on the quest) that need to do them But as said, it was in the middle of the night (3 of us were from the Apac region) and we were all tired and bleary eyed, so not really thinking straight at the time. But then, we also need to do the seeker droid heroics on Ilum afterwards, so practicing our team work and coordination skills as a group is probably not a bad thing. Edit to add: Interesting Went and checked it on the official forums. More flashpoints can only be a good thing as can genuine expansions. Crossing fingers/knock on wood etc. that the longer cycle actually means more QA time. I used to buy the cartel packs (spent quite a lot of $'s), but refuse to spend a single dollar more on the new ones just released until I see them actually fixing existing bugs. Not just talking about the engine not handling robes clipping through everything (probably a middleware problem), but actual, glaring errors in modelling and mapping.- 505 replies

Time is indeed a weird thing. It's like some construct added to the universe to bring order, so everything doesn't happen at once. A bit like some math things that can't really be explained, only accepted or understood on an intuitive level. E.g. you can halve the distance between two points an infinite number of times. Yet, that would mean the distance between those two points should be infinitely long, yet it isn't. Some things just doesn't make sense (other than to philosophers, real and self proclaimed, who could probably flame a forum thread to death arguing over semantics and obscure principles).

I wish they had just done something like X-Wing vs. Tie-Fighter. I haven't tried it beyond that one, initial game and it wasn't my cup of tea, so no idea what damage gunships is doing to the game. Almost finished the binocular (shrouds last stand) last night We got as far as the puzzle after the fight with the controller droid and security systems disabled. Found the panels inside the conveyor, the shielded panel above door to lift and the one inside the reactor (which you can vent the gas from for 30 seconds). We couldn't get the order of button pushing quite right though. I suspect the guy at the console has to push first the green button (gas), then one guy moves into reactor and we have to do 4 things simultaneously. We just couldn't get it right I think what was missing was pushing the red button back at the console in hindsight. One of the guys had generated enough aggro at home and had to do a boss fight with his missus, so we had to call it quits ofr the night. Just as well as it was 2:30am at the time. Ah well, next time...- 505 replies

Made some good friends on the Imperial side over time, so doing things like Oricon and CZ (without using groupfinder for the FP's) is a breeze. Things doesn't look that rosy for my Republic toons though *sigh*. Gave up trying to find a group for my trooper to do the last heroic on Oricon and just did it all by himself. Was surprisingly easy actually, as soon as you can find a "sniping" position. No, he's not a sniper, but he can target a single commander and engage without mobs interfering. Rinse and repeat 3 times. Got the last bit of armour (helmet), took out the medic mods and gave them to Elara. I feel less confident in my smuggler girl trying to repeat that, as she just doesn't have the staying power in prolonged fights against guys who shoot back (a lot). For my main (Powertech tank), I finished buying Basic Commendation gear for Mako and not sure what to use those coms for now. So, since I've got field respec, I went and bought a second armour set. Plan on putting mods into it as I keep getting basic coms every now and then. This armour ('TT-17 Hydra', 7 pieces) is going to be geared towards DPS. Then I can change on the fly, both specs and gear on a need basis.- 505 replies

From the completely irrelevant trivia department: You can get 10 crystals out of each corpse from the ghost on Ilum (if you have at least 10 glasses of shock frozen water in your inventory). Tried it with a character loaded up with 17 glasses of water and could generate 10 crystals from the corpse. Next test is going to involve distributing water to other team members and see if I can make 20, 30, 40 etc. crystals at a time. I better go moisture hunting soon.- 505 replies

I asked myself the same question about a month ago. Decided that I didn't. It wasn't that it completely broke windows gadgets (I can easily live without the little weather gadget), but it broke some other applications that used explorer for file navigation and so it got tossed out again. I noticed that my workplace also adamantly refuses to let it on any corporate PC.

Yeah, my Artifice guy is sort of the odd fish there, since I would like all the classic coloured +41 crystal schematics for him. I like them better than all the psychedelic experiments released in the cartel market. Call me a traditionalist Both crafting and the whole commendation system could use a rewrite/fixing as the gap between level 1-50 and 55 is noticeable. It feels like playing one game up to level 50 and then there is this odd "break" (not sure how to describe it properly) when playing level 51-55 where most of the stuff you've gathered so far becomes obsolete. Only thing I would use classic commendations for other than the above would be if I was short on resources to gear up a few of the less often used companions. The problems with crafting... too many to list really. Mostly summarised as "useless" except for the token gestures of letting people create augments and augment kits.- 505 replies

How about some HM Flashpoints (the level 50 ones)? Gives you plenty of XP and some classic coms for upgrading gear. Also, the Black Hole on Corellia is a good source of xp/coms. When reaching level 53, you can do the GSI missions (need to pick up the macrobinocular and seeker droid missions on fleet to start on the GSI stuff) for lots of basic coms (the level above classic coms) and XP. Heroics space missions can be done from level 50 and gives basic coms, xp and credits. edit: I think you can also start on Makeb at level 50. When reaching level 55, there is Oricon, CZ-198 and level 55 HM flashpoints to do Edit2: There is also Section X, but I can't remember from what level you can do that, nor if it's still "sold separately" or part of the main game now.- 505 replies

The legacy armour work around doesn't work for crystal schematics Don't really mind Quesh as it's generally too short to get boring. I think the WB there is bugged though. I helped kill it with my Sith Sorcerer just before Christmas, but didn't get credited in my achievement list. And it was such a fun fight when you are only level forty something (a level 55 Juggernaut was doing the lions share of the fighting, I just tagged along in the group, zapping it and doing some "off healing")... it did count for my weekly though. Not that I run around killing WB's left and right at those levels.- 505 replies
