1. I have a bit of vacation starting after today. Took next week off. First time since 2015 that I've taken more than 3 days off in the same year. Got a new BBQ, New outdoor furniture arrives tomorrow and it's a nice 25C today. Not too bad overall
2. *pokes dead horse with a stick* Much to my surprise, I still play this game. The little republic guild I joined end of last year is still hanging in there, fighting tooth and claw to stay alive. It's mostly a "weekend warrior" guild though. Said weekends are fun though, doing a rotation of the usual 4 HM Ops (SnV, TfB, DF and DP), having done one of those each of Saturdays and Sundays and now getting started on HM Gods from the Machine this weekend. Branched out a bit from playing mostly (shadow/assassin) tanks to also play (shadow/assassin) dps. Currently pulling around 10500 on the 1.5m dummy and 9800 on the 2.5 dummy. Trying to get to 10000 too on the 2.5m dummy (Deception/Infiltration discipline, so burst spec, not sustained). Very convenient in HM SnV where I switch from tank to dps for the Styrak fight
3. Too lazy to seach for 10+ year old posts, but I seem to remember suggesting that a decade ago. Where is my Obsidian logo coffee mug??? Edit to add: I can recommend Discord for those who are interested in things like "Obsidian Plays" etc.
4. The number of Polish immigrants (700000+) was a contributing factor behind the UK's wish for a Brexit (i.e. stop the immigrants!). Indians are the only immigrant group that is more numerous in the UK now and India has some historical ties with the UK from colonial times, being part of the Commonwealth etc. But, I don't live in the UK anymore, so my interest in immigration politics there is mostly just curiosity now. Most likely outcome is, those who have been living there for a while as part of the EU free movement of work force agreements will get some special status allowing them to remain.
5. Closing the thread due to arbitrary length. More weirdness here
6. Start of Old Thread End of Old Thread Who needs Barnum and Bailey when you've got Trump?
7. Condolences Tale How romantic! You little Casanova, you, working the corporate ladders...
8. Luckily my laptop survived the first 3 years... Thread getting a bit long, more stuff here
9. Start of old Thread End of old Thread Sorry to hear that Majestic... Starting to wonder if I shouldn't try this annual leave thing some day. Had 3 days off between Christmas and New Year, which again was my only leave since Christmas the year before that again. Might be nice to actually kick back and relax a bit some day Oh, and a nice 26 degrees Celcius here today, just at the start of winter (just wanted to rub it in).
10. Not sure how many people have seen this old British comedy series called "Yes Prime Minister!". Jim Hacker (the PM) explains who reads the newspapers Hacker: Don't tell me about the press. I know exactly who reads the papers. The Daily Mirror is read by people who think they run the country; The Guardian is read by people who think they ought to run the country; The Times is read by the people who actually do run the country; the Daily Mail is read by the wives of the people who run the country; the Financial Times is read by people who own the country; the Morning Star is read by people who think the country ought to be run by another country, and the Daily Telegraph is read by people who think it is. Sir Humphrey: Prime Minister, what about the people who read The Sun? Bernard: Sun readers don't care who runs the country, as long as she's got big ****.
11. BBC Coverage Nineteen people have been killed and more than 50 injured in a suspected terror attack at Manchester Arena. The blast happened at 22:35 BST on Monday following a pop concert by the US singer Ariana Grande. PM Theresa May said her thoughts were with those affected by "what is being treated by the police as an appalling terrorist attack". Paramedics at the scene told the BBC they had treated some of the wounded for "shrapnel-like injuries". Condolences to those who lost family, friends and loved ones.
12. Not sure if posted already, but I think Putin is having some genuine fun here... It is a bit funny
13. How do those three points explain Pong?
14. Suffering a bit of self inflicted pain this week. Started in a gym again. The exercise bike is nice enough, but rediscovering long lost muscles which didn't seem too thrilled about being prodded back into life through the Inquisitorial Torture Apparatuses ? Well... Yeah, it's boring as hell, but it was necessary. This old body needs to get fit again. With 24/7 access I can come and go as I please, even when working long hours. Currently taking it "easy" with just 3 visits weekly (Monday/Wednesday/Fridays).
15. Things I won't touch... Can be summarised by "anime inspired" and "Real Time Strategy". Apart from those two broad categories, I'm usually game (pun unintended) for most things.
16. I've been trying to get into Dragon Age: Inquisition recently. Really trying, spending hours on it. I just can't get hooked on it. Something about the game just feels "wrong". It's like it's completely devoid of life Was thinking about either have a go at PS:T (GoG version) or try to have another go at Witcher II (would it make sense to try completing that one before Witcher III?).
17. Sorry mate. Secular democratic leaders in this region??? Even if you could find one of those rare specimens, he would have no political clout whatsoever, because there would be no popular support. Lessons learned from previous disastrous wars in the region? Absolutely NIL! People in Syria will still be mostly Sunnis and their neighbours will still try to gobble up as many of them as possible to increase their political spheres of influence. Saudi Arabia and Turkey first and foremost. Just a little bit of ethnic cleansing so areas can be resettled here and there by Sunnis and be amenable to be included in their respective neighbouring countries.
18. Appeal to Emotion Fallacy is the phrase you are looking for?
19. If things starts getting too hot at home, nothing like a cozy little war elsewhere to give people something else to talk about. Palmyra isn't Circus Maximus, but the mental image of a staged bloodsport game is hard to shake.
20. Ghost of Guy Fawkes, I banish thee, Be gone!
21. You can "split" the info. Posting a link and a label that is a friendly hint to what the link leads to. For example: Funny cat picturesThe above gives something like Funny cat pictures Not sure if that is what you are looking for? Alternatively there are sites like https://tinyurl.com/ which can create redirections to links you don't really want to (or can't) post.
22. Isn't that pronounced something along the lines of fer-guss ur-kart? Edit: @Madscientist - You are perfectly understandable. I've always considered German the "Lego" of languages. Can't find a word that fits, just put a pile of words together until you got a new (often very long) word that explains what it is
23. Early versions of Fortran made it possible to redefined numerical constants in your code
24. Counting? I, ii, iii, iv, v, vi, vii, viii, ix, x, xi... No, not going to continue until d Roman computer science was doomed from the outset. Just try to make sense of the following pseudo code: for i = i to x do { i = i + i; } what the heck is i at the end of the loop? 1, 2 or 55?
25. That sounded even more wrong
