Anthem
Pretty much this. If a company (in this case EA and their Bioware subsidiary) is convinced their way forward is Battle Royale game and micro transactions, the only way to go forward is to do what they did. The market, being just as ruthless as any corporation, will then decide whether that model will stand the test of time. There are of course classier ways of commenting on it than just simple minded gloating and wishing people out of work.

I bought it and my life is filled with regret. Et tu, Hurlshot? No canvas bag for you! Meh, just kidding. I do enjoy some internet gaming. My current favourite is an MMO (Guild Wars 2) and when I need to bash something, Killing Floor 2 scratches the itch. Speaking of internet games, one of my worries at the moment is the lack of info about Borderlands 3. Makes you wonder what happened to it? Stuck in development hell?- RANDOM VIDEO GAME NEWS
Not going to touch Anthem by the looks of it. A shame it's almost impossible to find players for Starsiege Tribes (or the newer Tribes 2 from 2001) these days- The Political Thread - Browncoat edition... down with the Alliance!
I think one of the reasons "Life of Brian" is one of my all time favourite movie is, it pokes fun at organized religion. The trappings, the rituals, the lack of independent thinking... Call me a blasphemer, but I think Jesus would have loved the movie. It picks up where he left off 2000 years ago, chiding, scolding, mocking, showing the clergy up, revealing their short comings and fighting the established religion, the power structures, the abuse, the inflexibility of a rules based system. Speaking of rules... I can't remember who it was originally attributed to, but I love a quote that goes somewhere along the lines of "Computers are like an Old Testament God, all rules, no mercy"- The Political Thread - Browncoat edition... down with the Alliance!
I'm not really a Christian, but I do believe Jesus in many ways was a socialist and an anarchist. One thing to remember though, is those concepts are "new". If I had to put a label on the historical person, I would label him "rebellious". Not against Roman rule, but against Rabbi rule. He seemed against people accumulating wealth for wealth's sake and wealth hoarded was wealth wasted if it wasn't used to do do good for people. Main subject of his antagonism seemed to be the organized religion of the time though, which he had nothing but contempt for. Just my $0.25- The Food Thread
Oh I'm sure the Americans know how to throw a tea party- MOD makes for Level 40 in KOTOR
@Koma i think it's fairly certain to say, he couldn't care less about your opinion (he died quite a few years ago)- Pictures of your Games 11 - The Quickening
Guild Wars 2... I love the desert maps. Well, most of them anyway. The Elon river valley and estuary area is gorgeous in-game. My little Asura engineer gliding upstream on his skimmer mount (effectively a "hovercraft")- Weird. Random. Interesting.
Well, this is the 21st Century. Maybe she identifies as a cat?- The Political Thread - Browncoat edition... down with the Alliance!
It would be nice, but I don't think it would be a democracy any longer? I would love to do a social experiment where the system is a meritocracy with a democratically elected oversight body. Edit: Since Warhammer 40K was brought up, I believe the EU would be the equivalent of the Adeptus Administratum Edit2: With the Germans being secret followers of the Omnissiah- What did you do today?
A friend and I spent the Saturday afternoon playing bowling... i feel really butt-hurt today and I mean that in the literal sense of the word I was trying to remember when I played bowling the last time, which I think was 17 years ago. Arms and shoulders are fine, but my poor lower back was just not used to the slightly "crouched" movement before letting go of the ball.- The Political Thread - Browncoat edition... down with the Alliance!
I sometimes wonder if those two were like Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. When one disappeared, the other did too...- The Political Thread - Browncoat edition... down with the Alliance!
Asking people what they want can be dangerous. I still remember 1992, back in Denmark. People (including myself) voted no in the Maastricht Treaty referendum. The 'Yes' position had been advertised by just about every establishment figure, celebrities, industrial leaders and a rare, almost unified parliament (except the odd protest party or two who was against anything EU related). Yet, people voted No and you could hear the wails of despair coming out of the parliament building. Their fix at the time was to get the treaty amended with phrases that effectively left Denmark out of key areas (and obligations) of the treaty and then hold a second referendum on the modified treaty. People at the time had the feeling the politicians had lost touch with reality and would simply keep holding referendums until they got the desired result. It was also the last time that Denmark suffered major riots and police shooting people in the streets (11 people got shot by police in Copenhagen). The second referendum ended up in favour of 'Yes' with a fraction of a percentage. The politicians got what they wanted, even if was now only a treaty in name only. Politicians however lost just about any credibility they may have had left at the time and I always thought it would be a race between the UK and Denmark who would be the first to leave the EU (both countries also never adopted the Euro currency.- What did you do today?
Has congress passed a budget for the building of said fence?- What are you playing right now?
A bit of creative quoting and editing of the post made it easier to read- What are you playing right now?
It's a bit hit and miss. Last two "aaa" titles I bought at full price were Witcher III and Overwatch. Loved the former. The latter... a complete waste of money for me. Best full price title investment for me would be Borderlands 2. I got my moneys worth with outrageous interest from that game- What are you playing right now?
I tried a few hours of "Don't starve together" last night with 3 other people. It was surprisingly fun, but it does have a slightly steep learning curve the first few game days. I managed to get killed right away (not recognizing the hunger, health and sanity gauges for what they were), but luckily one of the other 3 is a bit of a veteran of the game and resurrected me. Haunting rocks and rabbits is only so much fun We made it to day twenty something, having a nice little camp, which in hindsight is probably too close to a spider nest. Days are getting shorter (and colder!) and nights are getting longer. What can I say? "Winter is coming!..."- RANDOM VIDEO GAME NEWS
Blasphemy! More game news here- RANDOM VIDEO GAME NEWS
Start of old thread End of old thread A bit in the same boat. I've got GOG, Steam and Origin games (the latter being a few Bioware games). Also a lot of games from Gamersgate, although I guess download clients and updaters in the end won out,- State your profession!
I make my living as a developer (software). Been doing it for 25+ years. I always wanted to pursue biology, but that sort of never materialized.- The Political Thread - Browncoat edition... down with the Alliance!
Pfff..., couldn't help laughing a bit. The article went fine until the 'conservatism' part came out of nowhere, not related to anything in the article really. I guess asking someone to define 'conservative values' is as futile as asking someone to define what makes a crpg a role playing game. I finally did find out what the heck a maga hat is though. Google ftw. Edit: I guess reading the article was sort of like Uh huh... Sure... Yeah... Humm... ... Say wut???- Unfounded Whispers About Kotor III
As much as I would love a Kotor III, I just don't see it happen. At least not in something that is comparable to a 10+ old format. Despite your aversion towards the MMO, I would probably recommend trying it out. It's free to play and if you play the Jedi Knight story (solo, don't need to team up with people), it's more or less a continuation of the story.- 1 reply
