Which games have aged well in your opinion?
Gorth replied to Katphood's topic in Computer and Console
Hmm, I'll have to check my library. I'm sure I tried a remake a few years ago. It completely missed the point and felt like a dumbed down, completely linear corridor shooter with no exploration whatsoever involved. It was not a steam or a gog purchase, maybe when I still bought games from gamersgate. Will need to check. On a more positive note, games that I still like to dust off and play every now and then: Jagged Alliance 2, Master or Orion 2 and X-Com3: Apocalypse. Whoever came up with dos-box... thank you! -

Still enjoying Guild Wars 2.... I like when not forced to be in a group to enjoy an hour or two of casual play. No problem finding players either when in the mood for something that requires a group. My thief running around in the frozen wastes... Swamps and sewers always held this weird attraction... must explore! squish... squish... squish... Heh, no fighting here, but underwater combat does take a little bit to get used to. No "up" or "down" when rolling around, dog fighting underwater. -
You can argue whether it was good or not, but dang, some of those old SSI games on the Commodore 64 impressed with their AI opponents at the time. Whether small or grand strategy. Bear in mind, there was NOT a lot of giant shoulders to stand on at the time to look for ideas...

Still playing Guild Wars 2 and enjoying it.... My thief went to the land of burning sand, burning sun, sun burns, burning villages and burning villagers... generally a hot place it was worth the blisters though, getting this! My own little riding lizard! -

This looks perfectly safe! How could you possibly resist super shiny things??? -
I should take a break from Guild Wars 2 some day and finish a personal project in Borderlands 2... I made it to OP1 on my "main" toon. Would love to some day get to OP8.

I don't know which country looks the most like Skyrim, but I think it's safe to say that New Zealand probably gets the closest to Lord of the Rings Yeah, lived and worked there for 3 years. 1 year in Germany (Berlin) and 1 year in the UK (Greater London area). Born and raised in Denmark, living in Australia currently (12 years) The countries are somewhat different, so would probably prefer to answer for only one of them if needed (yeah, lazy me)

Only three dreams affected me strongly enough to remember them for the rest of my life. Two of them I wish I could forget (enough said) and the third one was this odd phenomena called 'lucid dreams'. That was surreal. Once I realised I could control the dream, I went completely overboard. I could literally change the reality around me through force of will. Sadly I did wake up eventually.

Still having fun playing Guild Wars 2. Mostly just playing the game "solo", enjoying the story and the nice landscapes and vistas. Currently working on a duo of characters that I'm trying to get to level 80 (because I really want to unlock mounts and save my feet from all that walking). I've dubbed them "The Beauty and the Beast" (I'll leave it to the viewer to decide who's who!). Reduced size images: Slaine the Warrior and Medb the Necromancer -

Zardoz was an awesome movie... I still re-watch it every now and then -
If I understood 'WvW' correctly in GW2 (Haven't tried it, not into PVP), it's server versus server PVP, so not really "factions". Nice idea. Supposedly can involve hundred of players fighting. Speaking of GW2, it's what I play most these days. Played seven different classes up to level 10 and decided to stick with Necromancer, Warrior and Ranger. Seems the most noob friendly classes for beginners like me to learn (edit: my necromancer is at level 26, trying hard to get to 30 and see what 'Dungeons' are all about)

I wonder if the Dutch would ever survive the Belgians winning the WC

The insurance fraud missions in Saints Row 3 are hilarious. But, after an hour and a half of seriously progressing our game, my co-op partner decided we had been serious enough (as serious as can be when you run around butt naked and drugged in a building) and we started just gunning down people and demolishing everything in sight with rocket launchers and grenades. It was a glorious blood bath. No, didn't bother saving the game at that point When not killing anything that moves (or doesn't) in SR3, then I have fun playing my noob necromancer in Guild Wars 2. Made it to level 21 and got a few hero points invested in my first specialization (Death Magic). I think I might swap it for Spite though, not quite decided yet

When not playing GW2, then having fun with Saints Row 3 in co-op. Surprisingly funny being the "bad" guys I was wondering why my co-op partner could survive the stuff we ran into. Turns out she has been playing it for a long time and has most of the upgrades (and probably a handful hacks) on her character. No fair!

Most anticipated games .... your wishlist of games to come

Borderlands 3... only game that sprang to mind as something really looking forward to. -
The two expansions for Guild Wards 2. Wanted to support a ("free") game I play at the moment and it was on a 50% sale
-
Trying out Guild Wars 2 at the moment. Still early days (got a necromancer to level 11), but at least it's tonnes of more fun than WoW
-
I don't think they have enough beer in England at the moment if that were to happen...
-
Speaking of Steam... summer sale started and I bought more games than i can remember from top of my head (used the little phone app). 15+ games at least at between 50% and 80% off.

Bought Hellblade: Senua's Sacrifice I only just started on it and... it's bloody creepy. Not often a game makes me feel that way.

The original Tomb Raider is still a top notch game on PC. Sure, the graphics aged poorly, but the game itself, the sense of exploration and discovery, the controls, the ambience, the music etc. are great. The game could use a faithful remake (not the pile of garbage that claimed to be a remake) -

X-Com3: Apocalypse has aged "decently". For me the only game to give Jagged Alliance 2 (which also carry its years "graciously") a serious run for its money and beat it in some areas (the use of terrain, especially destructible terrain as a tactical factor) -
Wonder what government system it would have, I guess we'd probably stick with the US system and end up with the US portion dominating the rest of the country. One good thing, you can send all the wannabe soldier cops down to Mexico to fight the cartels I'm sure the US would love to see Queen Elizabeth on their coins and bank notes
