Why hatchets?
Heijoushin replied to Heijoushin's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
Well, if it's a case of "small & deadly", then they could have also given an off-hand dagger (or any small weapon) a small defensive bonus. Isn't rapier & dagger a standard historical combination for that reason? Stab with rapier, defend with dagger. -
Not a big deal, but what is the logic behind giving hatchets the +5 deflection bonus? Hatchets are the only weapon with this bonus, and that seems to make hatchets the best possible weapon for any defensive character. This makes me a little sad, since a "hatchet wielding" knight... doesn't sound very cool;) Also... not that I have any hatchet combat experience, but it doesn't strike me as a weapon that would be easy to block with?

Upcoming Games/Books/Movies you are looking forward to
Heijoushin replied to Heijoushin's topic in Computer and Console
Chapter one is already out. Ah, so it is! Chapter 0. Very short though! I think it's more of a teaser;) -
I... have... I'm trying to block out the memories...

I prefer the earlier Warcraft lore (up to War2). The whole "Orcs are just mis-understood people corrupted by demons" thing makes me throw up a little in my mouth. In a fantasy warfare game, is it really so bad to have a "evil-ish" race? (What's next, a Starcraft movie with cuddly zerg?) So... hope the movie is based on that...

Upcoming Games/Books/Movies you are looking forward to
Heijoushin replied to Heijoushin's topic in Computer and Console
*Shrugs* I'm not really into Martin's books (I have read them though). The last one was especially slow paced and tedious. It's a rare case of "TV series is better than books". For medieval fantasy warfare, I recommend the traitor-son cycle. Amazing series, and the 3rd book has just been released. Also, if anyone is interested in manga/anime, the creators of Death Note (Takeshi Ohbata & Tsugumi Ohba) are starting a new series from December. It's called "Platinum End". Everything else they've written/drawn has been gold, so I'm looking forward to it(^^) -

Ah! How could I forget Star Wars! Obvious one. And it was also rude of me to forget White March 2;) -

Amegani's Pillars Portraits
Heijoushin replied to Amegani's topic in Pillars of Eternity: Modding (Spoiler Warning!)
Great! Going to role up a new party when the next White March comes out, so might use some of these(^^) The moon godlike is especially pretty! -
Spellsword, Battlemage, Arcane Warrior, Paladin and Templar
Heijoushin replied to Qistina's topic in Computer and Console
My thoughts on the original question: Spellsword: Obviously a pun on "sellsword", which implies this guys main role is a mercenary. He just happens to know a little magic as well to augment his combat skills. Battlemage: A magic who skilled at offensive magic. Of course, in most modern games, offensive magic is pretty much all mages can do (very sad) but... I suppose he's less scholarly than his mages peers. Paladin/Templar seem similar to me. Knights with some holy magic. Roleplays like a very athletic priest I suppose. Arcane Warrior: Never heard of him. Must be DA: Origins only as you say. Besides combining might & magic, they don't seem that similar to me... -
Just played some Sword Coast Legends and... wow, it makes me appreciate Pillars of Eternity. SCL is about as generic as you get. With WOW skill trees... and Magic Missile Levels 1-4.

Really dude? You play on the hardest possible difficulty settings, and then blame the character class? Methinks melee rogue is pretty awesome if he has a meat shield to help him out. Also, sometimes you're just plain unlucky and miss a few strikes in a row (1-100 roll leaves quite a bit left to chance). If might be wise to not judge the class until you play a little more.

Playing Wasteland 2: Director's Cut now. I enjoyed the original Wasteland 2, and Director's Cut is really much more polished. I mean, its much easier on the eyes, the quirks & perks system is fun, and I can see some balance issues have been corrected. Can definitely recommend it. Briefly got excited about a game called "Age of Decadence", which sounds like it had a great concept but... wow, the graphics are awful. Now, I know its considered boorish to complain about graphics nowadays, especially on a CRPG forum, but I think everyone has a line they will not cross. On Oct 20, I'll check out Sword Coast Legends, but I'm not too excited, since that seems to be more about dungeon building and multiplayer than the single campaign. Then its the month long wait until Fallout 4 and Starcraft 2 LOTV.

Geez ktchong, again with the weird threads. Here in Japan, where I'm living, loads of people considers halfs to be hot. Personally, I don't think they're any hotter than "pure" asians or whites by default. It depends on the person.

Game that best captures the feeling of being a mage
Heijoushin replied to Heijoushin's topic in Computer and Console
Reading what everyone has written here, it seems that mages were a lot more well implemented in older games... -
Lock picking
Heijoushin replied to chuff80's question in Pillars of Eternity: Technical Support (Spoiler Warning!)
For a chest with a difficulty of 8... wouldn't you need a mechanics skill of 8? It isn't mechanics + lockpicks = total. -
Give us an arena
Heijoushin replied to spardeous's topic in Pillars of Eternity: Stories (Spoiler Warning!)
Nice idea. At first I was thinking one-on-one combat would be fun, but then the first person to paralyze the other would probably win. So group combat would probably be best. It could be an alternative to bounties for making some tough/interesting opponents.
