Still it feels lacking. I feel like it is overwhelming compared to D&D/IE games while being less quality. Maybe it will be ironed out in the retail. To me IE games has the best combat system in any cRPG to date; I don't understand why they would try to change that with the motivation "all classes should be fun to play" (it is a party based goddamit!). I complitely agree with you. But I think this is a little bit offtopic.

PoE 2 will probably be the "complete" package in the end. Unfortunately but most likely.

I think an update / post from OE where they comment on most heated topics and issues people have, and maybe their take on if they have already plans about those issues would be ideal.

Difficult to pronounce Names / Places / Races distracting

This always seems to be issue for the english speaking crowd. But yeah I guess the solution is to include a guide, if people really find it irritating. -
Elf Portrait
Trodat replied to gamerdude130's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
Most likely Obsidian is "focusing" on making sure that the Companion portraits (Kana Rua not sure if a playable companion) are very well done, and so far that seems pretty much be the case. You can definitely sense their personalities - Edér being a cool bro, Pallegina showing her knightly devotion and Kana Rua having sort of rastafari / jamaican chillness. -
Elf Portrait
Trodat replied to gamerdude130's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
I like both the BG1 portraits and the IWD ones. They are complitely different in style but great in their own ways. Some of the portraits we've seen so far are pretty awful, but I'm sure there'll be enough good ones aswell. -
I'm not familiar with Star Citizen but 50M from backers and the game is not out yet? How is that possible seriously.

Your viewpoint is pretty shallow honestly. Theres definitely a huge difference between heroes and how you play the game. For example in Dota your play style changes complitely between heroes like Slark, Natures Prophet, Omniknight, Riki, Anti-Mage, Chaos Knight. I know its probably useless to just name drop heroes if you are not familiar but there's definitely similarities between "proper" RPG's and Mobas. You play a role in the party. You say "Twitch gameplay" well, someone else could say: A whole lot of different things matter in a session of dota. Warding, Map awareness, Knowing when to defend towers, when to push towers, contesting Roshan or not. Trying to end the game in the first 15-20 minutes or relaying on your late game and going for 50 min and so on. Comparing Dota to modern CoD games is just pure nonsense.

BETA LIVESTREAM INFO/COMPILATION: Bro, do you even Livestream?
Trodat replied to Bryy's topic in Backer Beta Discussion
Yeah definitely not standard. I've watched plenty of twitch streams and big part of that stuff is communicating between the caster and viewers. I'm certain that there are different delay values you can add, like up to 5 min or so.- 113 replies

What does "casuals" even means, and why wouldn't they be interested in PoE? The average RPG player probably hasn't changed much in the last 15 years or so, it's the games that changed. Give a "casual RPG player" a good RPG and they will enjoy it as much as an "old school RPG player" would. Fanbase of DA games is pretty big. And some of those people will indeed enjoy PoE. I just have this feeling, that the "core" crowd concists of people that just like a non frustrating adventure and are really into "immersive" stuff like romances, cool cinematics with voice overs etc. PoE is supposed to be a decent challenge difficulty wise, that may scare them away. I didn't play DA2 so I cant comment on how hard it was. I still think that for many people isometric viewpoint with prerenders is a no-no. Someone commented that gamers who enjoyed the IE games moved away to different type of games instead of playing the newer ones. I feel this is pretty much spot on.

VA cast

I hope Obsidian will have VO's for some of the creatures aswell. Like that ogre we saw in the demo. Adds a nice touch IMO. -
Spell queue
Trodat replied to ryukenden's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
I'd rather see them focusing on polishing and bug fixing, rather than implementing additional features. In BG or IWD combat was very good 'this' way so I don't really see any benefit for making it more 'hassle free'. -
Guess the release date!
Trodat replied to Sensuki's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
My vote is december 3th. -
No... in a couple of months we may have a beta. Did you miss the late December release date announcement? 2-3 month before release can not be called beta anymore. It is like what EA does with stuff like Battlefield. It is a public Demo nothing else. But again that fits with their policy not to show anything at all.... Back in the days game companies made games that didnt need to be fixed by average joe "beta" testers. PoE is a story driven SP game and they know what they are doing. A "fully developed" demo is perfectly fine.

Obsidian have stated their reasons on this matter and they're not obligated to show us anything really. They will show us a gameplay video when the time is right and I can easily wait for that.

Pretty good stuff. Deities and orders sound like something that you can have fun with and experiment. I don't mind priests being support focused class, I think it adds a nice 'tactical'/old-schooley touch. This sounds like an interesting idea.

Update #76: Music in Pillars of Eternity
Trodat replied to BAdler's topic in Pillars of Eternity: Announcements & News
Here's a few awesome tracks from Final Fantasy XI. No other MMO has anything comparable in terms of music IMO. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K0rYk83Rt0A ----------------------------------------------------------- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3TnSMXcp2Hg ----------------------------------------------------------- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nLRpjmwv7o4 ----------------------------------------------------------- And there are many more.- 221 replies
