Designer Ramblings: Romance

Heh. So this is a personal grudge? Don't mind me kiddo, I just troll for fun. And I doubt very much I had one of your threads about Nihilus removed because I very much try to avoid spoilers. Don't blame me for the lack of quality of your posts that makes them undistinguishable from spam. -
What's your favorite fantasy/si fi world?

I don't think he meant to do that kind of distinction. You still left out the WoD and the Post Nuclear waste of Fallout. -

Yeah, dude. They should close down the London National Gallery for displaying such raunchy stuff. Man, I hear some people even take their kids there! What's wrong with those people? There ya go: -

Likes: Naked girls. Girls in hot mini skirts. Flaming. Family Guy. Um... girls? Dislikes: Hipocrisy. Waking up early. Cowardice. Hangovers. Everyone else seems to be having more sex than me.

OMG 15th century pr0n! That depends on the guy. We're rather simple but not so simple as to not have different tastes. I prefer 'em more curvy than skinny, myself, but heh, after a few drinks I'm not too picky. -

That statement just proves the opposite. I mean, you're not a jerk. If you were you would be probably flaming somebody rather than whining 'bout it. Congrats, you're not a jerk. Again Hades goes off on a tangent. No, Hades. I'm not overly excited about skin and bones either. But that wasn't my point. What I meant is that as Drakon said, usually a girl will have to catch your eye before you move in for the kill. That's how it works. I have already heard your mind-over-matter speech so save it. No amount of of willpower can suppress an involuntary response. And um, why do you always turn every topic into a discussion about yourself? So what (famous) woman in RL would you describe as with classical physical attributes, i.e. who do you you think is an attractive woman? Well, strictly speaking, classical looks is something like Botticelli's Birth of Venus, yet somehow I doubt that's what Hades meant. -

Wasn't that 21337's sig a little while ago? Yes, it was until my crappy ISP decided they didn't feel like hosting my stuff any longer. What a bunch of snake oil salesmen. -
I'm level 4. Does that qualify as having a life?

And how do you know if a woman is 'cerebral' or not without talking to her? Exactly, you can't. You know what I'm talking about Hades. Don't do it again, will ya? -

and...? i see no problem w/ that <{POST_SNAPBACK}> The problem is that you don't see a problem with that. Your friend would disagree, though. I know I would, and I'm not that much of a weirdo. Yep. The same way we guys are attracted to hot chicks, girls are drawn to guys who display certain 'alpha traits'. A lot of those traits are often found in jerks. Nothing wrong with following instinct. There's a genetic factor to it, too. I don't believe in a cosmic or karmic or whatever connection. It all comes down to chemistry. Now I only have to find Teh Ultimate Formula... -
Um, no, they wouldn't. Do you think that say, Mauritania would declare war on the US if they launched a nuclear strike against Korea? Think again. The small fishes would just try to stay out of the way and pray that they don't piss the guy with the WMDs too much. Cowardice works better at saving one's hide than high ideals. But I like nukes. :'( I don't know. I've been playing on the easier levels now and I don't think I'll play harder than Regent. On that level you play more or less on equal conditions with the AI, and my idea of increasing a game difficulty != increasing the AI cheating level. Much less if the cheating is so inconspicuous. However, if people do indeed get so hardcore that they actually need the dumb AI boosted to cheating levels, then let 'em brag.

You just described me  Heh. It sucks to be 'I like you, but as a friend'-ed. One of my new year resolutions is to be a total jerk so no girl will want to be my friend. I think that actually might increase my odds of getting some. " -
w00t! Minoan nazis And I like Hitler the fruit-lover. But rules are rules...

Yeah, I don't do the kind of crazy crap they do in the Sims like going to work or cleaning the place. Man that must be draining.
-
Um, yeah. I try to perform my basic physiological functions whenever possible. If that ain't a life, nothing is. :D

In RL half of the world has nuclear and/or biological arsenals. I don't use nukes in mutual assured destruction scenarios, only when I'm the only one who has them. That's why it's stupid of the AI to declare war on such inferior conditions. About the AI cheating, well... read this. There are somethings not listed there such as the AI knowing how useful a certain resource is to you when bargaining, trade worth adjustments, etc. Suffice to say that the AI cheats. An awful lot.

My best cheating AI moment was when I was allied against the babylonians with the Americans and the americans were way behind in tech level. So I decided to share so they'd have a better chance. Well as soon as I gave them the new tech, all their units in the field upgraded. And so did the Babylonians. Anyway, I thought Civ3 was fun, but at later years when you have a large empire its really hard to play. Um, the units were upgraded in the field? Such blatant cheating really substracts from the game experience, if you ask me. But, alas it seems the only way to make the game challenging once you figure out how to win. And about late eras, well, I don't really have a hard time playing. I have a hard time wiping the other civs from the map, but that's what space race and diplomatic victories are for. I think however that early expansion has been placed too much emphasis on. It's really hard to keep an advantage over the AIs without building a thousand cities in the BCs. You can get the cultural and space race victories easily with few cities but in a small territory you will usually be hard pressed for resources. I often end up invading some fool to take their resources... but that's a whole mess. War is no longer an easy way to win unless conducted very early. And why the hell does every worm in the map declare war on me when I nuke someone back to stone age? I mean, I would understand it if they established trade embargoes and signed MPPs, but declaring war on the guy with a thousand nukes? What gives?

Damn good sim, if you can be bothered to learn to play it. Oddly enough, winning in it involves careful planning and tactics, and fast reflexes aren't the deciding factor. And playing the co-op missions is a blast. (w00t)

Really, I don't see the need to turn a gaming discussion into one about politics. It's such a cliche. -

But what would be the difference between a mad person and a normal person, if the mad person had the option of choosing normal responses in conversations..? Um, usually you can't tell a psycho from a normal person just by doing some small talk with them, unfortunately. It would be nice to be able to play normal and then suffer outbursts of random lunacy, or when talking to certain characters, or when put under pressure. I don't know, I'm no specialist in madness. Anything's better than that loon talk they did.

So far it looks like another instance of a great game ruined by an overwhelming amount of bugs.
