  1. There's a mod for that at pcgamemods.com. I think it's called "subtle DS transitions" or some such. No matter how dark you go, it never allows you past the first transition. It gives you and your party members the "evil eyes", though. You don't see Anakin's face falling off, though, and the sort of transition experienced in KotOR/K2 is much more like Anakin's as opposed to Palpatine's. Also, I remember reading somewhere (it was an excerpt from SW Insider I think) that Palps' state was as much a result of his being very old as it was of his use and abuse of the dark side.
  2. Looks like another sorry victim of the Invisible War syndrome!
  3. I'm 100% with you on this one. But unfortunately this is what happens when games become mainstream. Most people don't want/don't have the time to complete the learning curves of old games, which means they don't get to develop any gaming skills. If they didn't dumb down the games, "casual" players would get raped badly in seconds. Which means frustration. That is a no-no, not just in the game industry, but in our culture in general. And since "casual" players are the largest potential market segment, this basically means you and me are screwed for good. Just pray PnP RPGs don't become mainstream.
  4. Casting Charm is a much nicer way of doing just that. I'd even suggest the casting of Goodberries but they don't seem to care about that. Anyway, don't use the poor cowled wizards as an excuse for your virtual psychopathy.
  5. In the plethora of meaningless and useless threads that is WOT, this particular one stands out. Why, you might ask? Well, it's because some of those threads are funny, or at least their authors intended them to be so. This thread fulfills neither of those conditions. All I see here is some ego self-bolstering. While that's not necessarily bad, it can potentially cause others the wrong impression. The impression that the author is becoming an attention whore, or the impression he desires to become a "board celebrity". Mind you, I think you're a nice guy, Child. Even after you threw a tantrum over my cloning your old Eru account ("). But making this kind of threads really does you a disservice. Just my $0.02.
  6. Actually, it wouldn't. If you remember, in the book standard trooper formations were spread over several kilometres, which meant that individual troopers never actually saw their teammates directly. Which is kinda consistent with the kind of firepower each suit boasted. Meaning, that for all intents and purposes, it's every man for himself. That kind of action wouldn't work for a war movie, methinks. Not as it's described in the book, anyway.
  7. I used to try every possible outcome in situations where civilians could die, and in situations where you could reasonably avoid combat. And usually I would choose the less violent option as the "valid" outcome. It goes without mentioning that this style of play entailed really long play times to beat certain games. No longer. Now I just roleplay, and let things just flow. If some random civilian dies because of a stray bullet, it just feels more authentic and adds to the immersion. If I'm roleplaying a good guy, I'll probably try to protect them to begin with, but I won't reload if they die. And if I'm the bad guy, I'll most likely use them as human shields anyway. I draw the line at party member death. But that doesn't happen all that often anyway.
  8. I'm tempted to brag and all that, but considering how we almost didn't qualify, I'd better not. Somebody would surely use it to undermine my credibility in some completely unrelated topic or other. You necroposters and archivists know who you are. And since our coach recently said that Netherlands isn't one of the tough teams of the tournament, my faith in his abilities and therefore in our chances has decreased somewhat. I'm with whoever said that the US team is underrated. Not so underrated as to progress past the second round, though. Their group is tough and second place means facing Brazil certain death. So, sorry Commie, but it ain't gonna happen.
  9. Now that's Real Ultimate Power. I don't know if you're referring to the Genesis or PS2 version, but it doesn't matter. Both were hard as hell. Shinobi (PS2) for me. It's got to be the only game I'm actually proud of beating. Yup. I'm old skool.
  10. OMGWTFBBQ!!!1! IT TEH APOCOLYPSE!!!!1
  11. Funny you would say that, considering that I don't see your point in that post, nor how does any of that patronising have anything to do with the discussion. You're just proving that you were merely taking a shot at me and what I was saying, and that your actual interest in the conversation is marginal. But hey, I guess that derailing discussions and making them personal is a lesson that I'll learn as I get older, too.
  12. Yeah, all that stuff about Mary being a virgin, right? I wasn't arguing Protestant tenets, or the spiritual reasons of the schism, or any of that crap. The bottom line is that if the German princes hadn't taken up Protestantism as their chance to piss off the Pope and his disturbingly hegemonic allies, Protestantism would now be just a footnote in some theology manual, if anything. Next time you're going to take a shot at what I'm saying, don't let yourself get carried away with the excitation, and pay attention.
  13. I was just making an example. Right, the Pope isn't exactly the paradigm of what Christ supposedly taught, but it doesn't matter. Look at the Caliphs. Look at Henry VIII. They all used (organized) religion for their own purposes. You say you're protestant, but even protestantism was in origin nothing but an excuse for standing against the Pope and his allies. So, whatever. Oh? I guess that getting involved in world politics is just a way of "perpetuating" the cult, then. I guess that no religion could survive without a corporate-like layout. I guess that African animist traditions aren't really a religion, just like Eastern ancestry worshipping philosophies aren't, either. I guess that religion needs my money to survive, because I'm not worthy of teaching it myself to my sons. And yeah, I have no problem with your faith. I just hate when people tries to use it to influence the way I think. Again, if religion (as you seem to understand it) fills such a fundamental slot of your basic needs, how come you can't do it on your own? Do you need people to chew your food for you, too? EDIT: Also, why the hell am I getting involved in yet another discussion about this? I thought I already said it's pointless. I must be getting stupider with each post.
  14. Good point, I guess. But a (pleasure?) whipping also falls under the "mostly worthless" category, just like the rest of the luxury commodities. I don't think anyone has ever died because they went too long without being whipped, just like people doesn't die because they can't attend the sermon. And those who do die, have clinically diagnosable mental disorders.
  15. Nah, it doesn't. Either you're happy, or you're not. And for most people, religion can't make them happy once their base needs are covered. Sure. That's why the Pope has a country of his own, dresses made with gold, and some other "unimportant" material crap. Yup, selflessness 4tw. In absence of a laic moral and civic education, sure. But then again, it's not the spiritual part of religion you're talking about, but the mundane one. And isn't the mundane supposed to be rather irrelevant, while religion promotes spirituality? So if the benefits come from the mundane part of religion, what's the spirituality good for? Organized religion is actually a masterwork tool for control of the masses. You provide a moral framework so people don't go around murdering each other merrily, and then you provide the means to mess with people's consciences so you can control them easily. Sorry, I fail to see the need for an intermediary between me and God, assuming that such a thing exists.
  16. You can't eat it, it doesn't protect you from cold, it can't take you to places (no, hell & heaven don't count), and for the majority, it's not enough to be happy. Mostly worthless.
  17. 40% Apparently building my own computer has nothing to do with it being cheaper, but more with being a nerd. And I have no idea who that guy was.
  18. I see lots of folks here hurling quotes from the Bible at each other to back their arguments. Funny thing is, I don't think any of you have actually read the damn thing. Meaning you don't have all the pieces, and you are only arguing from what you have read elsewhere, written by people with an agenda. It gets even better when that lack of knowledge about religion is coupled with ignorance of historical facts. Religion is like money. It's an artificial invention that's mostly worthless, but has great value for a lot of people. Following this crappy analogy, it's neither intrinsically bad nor good, it simply depends on what you do with it. Carry on with your pointless discussions. And I say pointless because it's obvious no one is going to convince anyone.
  19. I'd say it's a Pit Fiend. The demon with flaming wings and a vorpal sword from NWN was the Balor. EDIT: after consulting my monster manual, the one from the pic is almost a carbon copy of the Balor drawing there, except it's lacking the sword and whip. EDIT2: (Balor from the Monster Manual)
