  1. A consensus is useless unless there is some measure of force to make sure that consensus is respected. Be it social ostracism, criminal prosecution, or whatever. In this case there is not only no such consensus, but enforcing it should it be reached would undoubtedly entail undermining individual freedoms. Reaching a consensus may be enough for you and me, and even then, only as long as we keep respecting each other. The question here is, do they respect us? I doubt it, because if they did, they would not tell us what should or should not publish in our press.
  2. My thoughts exactly.
  3. I'm under 23. But you are right. Freelancer was just a Privateer wannabe.
  4. And yet, the notions of what is "distasteful" and what is not are so subjective.
  5. ...gay. Discuss.
  6. Nothing too remarkable about this game. Which also means it isn't remarkably bad. AOL Keyword: Meh. That's actually a security measure, you see. You wouldn't want your "other" gun popping out accidentally in the middle of a firefight, now would you?
  7. LOL No. As a WC fan, I have to say that from the excellent WCII on, WC sucked, with Heart of the Tiger being a nice story hurt by the crappy actual gameplay. Prophecy wasn't too bad, but the combat was too arcade-ish. It was kinda cool to play for once as someone else than Mr Living Legend. The SW space sim games were always better when it comes to game mechanics. And once WC lost the plot thing it had going for them, well, they just can't compare. I wonder why they didn't make a SW space sim like Privateer. That would have been cool. Playing a Han Solo-style character and stuff. Meh, another wasted opportunity.
  8. I don't make that kind of distinctions.
  9. Yeah, it's a great idea. I remember that before K2 was released, I theorized (silly me) that maybe something like that would be done regarding Atris. And well, considering that at some point in development they were considering making Atris a party member, and on the other hand you have the "Snow White Evil Witch" model for Darth Traya, maybe I wasn't so far off. But I digress. Again, I think it's a nice idea, definitely a step towards achieving not only a world that is responsive to the player, but an adapting plot. I don't see it happening anytime soon, though. Seeing how we are getting progressively less and less (quality or otherwise) writing in CRPGs, this would be a huge undertaking that may or may not pay off financially. From what I can see, devs today aim more at creating lots of "play and forget" titles, than games that you can keep replaying for months. It isn't a completely stupid strategy, either. At least in short-middle term. Bizness is Bizness...
  10. Highly humoristic, if somewhat unrealistic...
  11. By whose standards?
  12. You are welcome to get back to your werewolves anytime. )
  13. Well, I hate when the AI cheats. Yeah, I know in most games, the AI does exactly that. But hell, most of the time it doesn't do it in your face. I'm thinking particularly of the enemy spellcasters in BG2. How many Chain Contingencies can a Cowled Wizard have? And what's the deal with the auto Stoneskin just "triggering" when the player appears or the previous layer of stoneskins has been dissipated? That game had some truly stupid scripting. Draconis, with his insta-invisibility as many times per round as he wishes, comes to mind. All of this is even more enraging, considering that your own spells don't work nearly as well. Your True Sight only dissipates invisibility effects once per round, which means it's useless against him. Your Chain Contingencies set to trigger when the character is at 50% hp only trigger a few seconds after the caster's dead, most of the time, etc. Boy, did that suck.
  14. While the Third Reich perhaps wasn't condemned by the Vatican, they had their very own ideas about how religion should be handled, and what role it should play in their model of the state. For them, religion was just another tool. They had absolutely no intention of depending on the Vatican, for anything, as that would substract from the absolute power the Nazi regime sought. You can read some more about it here. At any rate, the point was not if there was a strong religious feeling in Nazi Germany, but if it was a society based around religious dogma, or political and moral philosophy, however twisted it may be.
  15. Like the Third Reich? Like Soviet Russia? Um... right.
  16. Just rewatched Chicago. It's one of my favorite musicals, right up there with Moulin Rouge. Everything is dubbed. I understand what you mean about the atmosphere. I have watched dubbed movies, and then rewatched them in English, and sometimes things are lost in the translation. It's especially bad with wordplay, puns, in-jokes and slang. I have seen a few times when the dubbed line has nothing to do with the real thing, but those extremes are very rare. There's not much to be done about it unfortunately, as the level of foreign languages taught here is rather low. And worst of all is, most people don't seem to care...
  17. Yup. They dub movies alright. In fact, it's difficult to watch any movie in the original language until the DVD is released, as very few cinemas play the original versions. People over here prefer it that way. That said, I tend to watch American and English movies in English. German however is a bit too much for me. And well, I didn't think it was strange to see Himmler and Hitler speaking Spanish. I guess I'm just used to it, much like you're used to subtitles.
  18. That. Is. Awesome.
  19. Der Untergang. Awesome movie.
  20. Well, that has yet to happen, so how would you know?
  21. Huh? In fact it's you who's crying about the excruciating experience that completing BL was. You're making no sense here. "LOTS" isn't a number, last time I checked. And you still fail to provide a detailed list. Well, that was exactly my point. I said I didn't experience any problems. But I also said BL was buggy. Is this a contradiction? NO! Because I was pointing out the fact that a single case does not make a rule. "WOWSERS!!" Proof, please. On the other hand, your trolling and constant random posting is quite annoying. A shame that IQ tests aren't performed to determine each user's posting privileges. I didn't claim "anyone". I said "everyone". You fail at reading. In fact, you fail at everything, but that's beside the point. Take a look at Battlecruiser 3000, for instance. That game had bugs that affected everyone (yes, you read that right), and made the game an effective beta version out of the box. You would know this, if you knew what the hell you're talking about. But as per usual, what you can't make up, you supply with stupidity. "R00fles!"
  22. Hmm. This sounds like facts bouncing off BW's forehead. So, what's new?
  23. AKA metagaming.
  24. No, the fanmade patch didn't fix it. Neither did the official patch, for that matter. I don't think Troika ever acknowledged the problem at all. Still, I don't know jack about coding, so I can't really say how difficult it would be to find and solve that problem, or if it can be corrected by a patch at all. And yes, the only known "workaround" is to restart the game after long sessions, when the game begins to get sluggish. The simplest workaround ever, in fact...
  25. Yup. There are some people that don't experience those either, anyway. The game just crashes after playing for a long while for them. But yeah, the memory leak was pretty bad. It doesn't make the game anywhere near unplayable, anyway, and the workaround is real simple.
