  1. I love MMO's, but I have very little confidence in this. I actually agree with Morgoth, this is way too difficult of a financial undertaking for a messed up company. If it sees the light of day, think Matrix Online.
  2. What a wonderful, black and white world you live in. edit: That was for Judge Hades.
  3. Last I checked there is plenty of unemployment and homeless people in this country who can fill that role. Money is money. They need to get back on their feet instead of welching off of others. Do you live in the real world? Homeless people and the unemployed refuse to do these jobs. The US doesn't follow a communist model, the government isn't going to assign jobs to people. OUR ECONOMY WILL COLLAPSE WITHOUT ILLEGAL IMMIGRATION LABOR. That's reality. Undocumented labor is what keeps the agricultural and construction industries moving forward. They are often working below minimum wage, which sounds terrible for legalized workers, but a decent percentage of undocumented laborers send the money home to their families in Mexico. That money goes a lot further in Mexico and is beyond what they can earn in their own country. Seriously, I worry tremendously about this whole "close the borders" mentality because in the end, it will hurt both the US and Mexico. Even the Republicans, who run on a campaign that preys on the fears Americans have over border issues, understand the need for migrant labor. If Bush is pushing for 8 million undocumented immigrants to be given worker visas, you've got to realize the problem isn't one that can be fixed by pulling from our unemployment field. The problem is our immigration policies that have been introduced over the last 13 years (since Mexico nearly imploded in 94) have been overloaded with so many stipulations that neither conservatives nor liberals find it favorable. I don't understand why it's so hard to see how important it is to build a solid working relationship with Mexico over the immigration issue. We need the labor, they need the monetary infusion and economic stability. But as long as Americans keep this xenophobic mentality, bridges will not be built. What kind of neighbors ignore the plight next door and just try and build a taller fence so they don't have to look at the problem? Oh, and American culture shouldn't need to tear down other cultures in order to stay strong. It should be able to rely on its own merits and not be afraid of other cultures. Diversity has always enriched our nation, I don't know why people think this will be any different.
  4. I know sarcasm doesn't translate well over the internet, but seriously, he practically pointed a big neon sign at his post with sarcasm written on it.
  5. Even so there needs to be a middle ground. We can't just sit back and watch immigrants come in as they wish and just make it their own. That's what i have a problem with. It's like they come to America illegally and expect to have all the rights and privileges as an American when they aren't American. And what really gets me is when they try to make us appease to their culture, like some kind of backwards assimilation bull****. It's ridiculous. If we had Muslims coming over in the millions you know people would be having a bigger problem. They just need to close down the border now. Being an American and being a minority in your own country is pretty sickening. What is this American culture you are speaking about? Have you taken any history classes? The US has always been an amalgamation of different cultures. Are you talking strictly about the European roots of the US? That seems pretty narrow minded, considering American Indians were here long before and have a very unique culture. And if you are talking strictly about Mexican immigration, you should keep in mind that California and the Southwest have always been heavily populated by Mexicans, this isn't some new debate. If you think American culture should only be white english speakers, you really need to pick up a book and read about American history.
  6. But our economy relies on it.
  7. Ok slug, I'll meet you out in fields and at the construction sites and we can tackle all the "non-useful" labor jobs that illegal immigrants fill. Seriously, the US economy relies heavily on illegal immigration. If you want to pay $30 for an artichoke at the grocery store, then yeah, kick out all the illegal immigrants. Have you read any actual studies on what would happen to our economy without illegal immigrant labor? It would collapse. Now a worker visa program would be an excellent way to address our large labor need, but the government hasn't had an effective program since the 70's. The fact is it's politically more fruitful to make a half-heated attempt at border control then it is to create a strong visa program with Mexico. Both countries are at fault in this situation. Yes, there are legal means to entering the US, but they heavily favor skilled workers. Unskilled laborers have little choice in the matter, if they want to work, they have to sneak in. The fact is, our economy needs them, so I wouldn't be so quick to kick them out. As for the way immigrants are treated in the US, legal or illegal, I think it depends on where you live. In California, particularly in the Bay Area, it's a huge mixing pot. There is very little difference in the treatment of minorities where I live, but then again, whites are in the minority. I'm white, my wife is a Mexican American. I love living in a community that is filled with cultural diversity. People who fear this diversity aren't only ignorant, they are a huge reason that racism, bigotry, and hatred are still problems in our world.
  8. I don't think Forsberg is anywhere near as dangerous as he used to be. He is still a solid playmaker, but he's struggled to score over the last two seasons and he's injured a lot. I wouldn't be surprised if he didn't play this season, of course I've been thinking that the last couple seasons.
  9. I did the same thing with Warcraft 3, although I did manage to play through the human campaign before I started cheating. I thought the story was interesting, but the game play just didn't hook me. I wonder how widespread this was with WC3. I know that at least 2 people that I know in real life did the same thing. Same here. Put me down as another. I played through with cheats to see the story, then played through again without. I do that with a lot of Blizzard games. Makes me wish they would make an actual RPG. I'm another Blizzard cheater. Of course, with WCIII, I was more concerned with what to expect story wise in WoW.
  10. I've been playing a lot of Crackdown lately. I don't think I play it like a normal person. My entire goal is to look for shiny orbs in hard to reach places. I don't care about cars, killing gangsters, or winning races. I usually only kill a boss if I think it will make it easier to collect orbs. It's cool though, I can jump like the frickin' Hulk. It really is a rather masterful game. I suppose the combat is too easy for most folks, but considering that's not why I play it, it's probably better that way for me. The cell shading is unique and the cities are vibrant with life. There's also something special about jumping 40 feet in the air, popping off a few rockets at a crowd of gangsters, and landing on their smoldering corpses.
  11. Woohoo, I was a bit worried about all the shooter talk, but this is definitely better than the typical mindless FPS crowd. The game is dripping in atmosphere. It's gorgeous. I've got to pick it up on the 360 because I just don't think I can run all those water effects well enough on my mid-level PC. I'll play it on easy, avoid combat, and just enjoy the awesome story.
  12. Morgoth doesn't need sense, fool!
  13. Hey, your supposed to be under an NDA! People shouldn't hear a game sucks until they foolishly buy it!
  14. I'm picking Krookie in the chris the jedi uncapitilizer vs. Krook death match. But he plays hockey and knows where the shift key is, so it shouldn't be much of a contest. It's not surprising that our younger members are all siding with a console over the PC. Give them ten years, and they will inevitably switch sides.
  15. I don't really consider PC's and consoles in the same ballpark at all. PC's are vastly superior on many levels and fill many roles, whereas a console has a fairly specific use and reflects that with a lower cost point.
  16. It couldn't be that most of the gaming press enjoyed Oblivion? Bethesda isn't exactly some heavyweight publisher. I could see being skeptical if the gaming press was all over Microsoft or EA, but seriously, there isn't any real benefit to grovelling to Bethesda. In fact, considering the game was well reviewed and sold well, you might want to look at yourself when it comes to "assessing quality". Clearly you have different tastes than the typical gamer, I don't know why that's the gaming press's fault.
  17. Fun, but not my cup of tea. I played the Eternal Sonata demo too, and I think I might pick that up.
  18. Psh, most predictable ending EVER! Seriously, it should have ended with you working for some obscure gaming studio., or better yet, you making it up all along. Or better yet, we are just all figments of your imagination!
  19. Ignoring the odd self defecation, I agree Akella has some interesting projects on the horizon. They have some great programmers and the Silent Storm game engine was awesome. There are Akella folks working on JA3. I just hope they get some decent English writers someday.
  20. I love my 360, but I would always choose to upgrade my PC first. It's way more important.
  21. I think that depends on how you play. There is no 80 hour a week requirement, that's just what some folks choose. Personally, I play maybe a dozen hours a month, and I have quite a few friends who do the same. The $15 a month is a minor cost, particularly because I buy less games than I would without WoW. But it's a gaming genre, and it's not going to be for everyone. I don't like racing games, but I don't jump in every racing game thread and bash them. But I guess that makes Aram happy, so yay for him.
  22. Well, you know what they say, once you go mutant, <insert witty remark here>.
  23. Yes, because the rest of the gaming world is so gay friendly, why could they possibly need their own website? Oh wait, the rest of the gaming world is filled with homophobic prepubescent teenage boys who think the internet is a place where they can be total dillholes with anonimity.
  24. odd timing on this thread... http://gamepolitics.com/2007/08/05/gaygame...-by-dos-attack/
