  1. All the stress about what type of degree you get isn't nearly as important as simply getting a degree. Seriously, there are plenty of folks working jobs that have nothing to do with their degree. The key is that they were able to complete something, and that's what companies tend to value when you go into an interview.
  2. The key to avoiding hangovers is to not stop drinking. I joined a frat, and that was a very good experience. Every frat is different though, so you've got to find one that fits your personality. Mine was the type that had massive games of Heroes of Might and Magic 3 going on, so I guess it wasn't really atypical. Don't drop classes. Have fun, but always remember finishig classes is why you are there. Beg professors if necessary, they are all pretty soft.
  3. Huh, I love the minigame. Even though I have quite a few autohackers, I typically try and lay down the pie anyways. And really, who doesn't like to fill a pipe now and then?
  4. JAZZ: Hired Guns, or I think they changed it to Hired Guns: The Jagged Edge. It was the game that was going to be Jagged Alliance 3, but Sir-Tech pulled the plug on the developer because they weren't happy. I'm hoping the real JA3 that's being developed using the Silent Storm engine will be good.
  5. Yah, some people are like "This game is awesome" and others are like "No, it's super awesome." Totally mixed reviews.
  6. So, what you're saying is that games are already a superior medium to film? There's a ton of games that don't rely on violence all the time. Just because they're not the hyped up big sellers out of the big US studios doesn't mean they don't exist. Just the same as the same can't be said of movies. Wow, it doesn't seem like you really read my post. I know there are non violent games out there, but I doubt they account for much more than 10% of the market. Movies have developed their non-violent genres to a much greater degree. Yes, popcorn movies are huge and sell well, but they are are rarely considered artful. I'd say maybe 25% of movies rely on violence to push the plot forward. Keep in mind, 85% of statistics are made up. And it's not just about violence, it's the use of violence. Bioshock is an artful game, but I've still spent a lot of time killing very similiar creatures over and over again. That puts it a lot closer to a standard horror flick then it does Apocalypse Now. I'm not saying games aren't art, I'm just saying they have a long way to go before they fit that "fine art" definition. They definitely aren't a superior medium, although they have the potential to be. But games need to break out of their demographic on a more consistent basis. As it is now, the appeal of games is too limited to teenage boys.
  7. Heh, games won't be a superior medium until they stop relying on violence all the time. Seriously, the market is saturated with games that are all about you going around and blowing stuff up. Gameplay needs to be expanded past this stage if games ever want to break out of the young male demographic. I'm not saying it's bad to have these games, but it shouldn't be 90% of releases. I'd say the Wii has the best chance of releasing a truly artistic game over the next couple years. It has the ability to create a unique gameplay experience.
  8. I've been ignoring the ones that seem like respawns, but maybe that's bad.
  9. That sounds pretty deep.
  10. It's like I played a different game. I don't even remember a fedex quest, and I'm not sure there were even enough quests to qualify as repetitive. I just remember impressing people with my giant bee head and getting a shiny axe from my wife after giving her a bit of black screen time.
  11. I hate shooters. I love Bioshock because the atmosphere and story.
  12. I'd hardly compare Fable to Diablo. One has you fighting wave after wave of attackers, and the other barely has any combat at all. Seriously, I'd call Fable more of an adventure game than anything else. I've also seen a lot worse dialogue out there.
  13. Wow, that figurine is way more impressive than I was expecting. I figured it might be 2 or 3 inches, but that thing could do some damage. Um, I'm refering to the Big Daddy. Err...
  14. I enjoyed Fable. It was a fun little RPG that didn't take itself too seriously. Unfortunately, it seems like a lot of people wanted more. Of course, I've never knocked a game for being too short, as I'm more likely to quit a game if it goes over 20 hours.
  15. I'm not sure on cost, I know they dipped a bit recently. There are only a few truly exclusive titles, but I'm always happy to see these games available on both the PC and 360. Dead Rising is the only one I can think of off the top of my head. Games like Gears of War and Mass Effect will likely make it to the PC eventually. If you have an HDTV, and your computer isn't top of the line, I say the 360 is a good investment.
  16. Yeah, we have another spoiler thread, and I'd rather play through without. I'm about 3 hours in, and it's awesome so far.
  17. I actually heard that one flying over Deadly's head. *whoosh*
  18. I, in my mind, believe that I have recieved just punishment for every law I have been caught breaking. Then again I very rarely have the desire or need to break any laws. Let the punishment fit the crime. For mainstreet's example, if your friend wished to press charges it would be a misdemeaner due to the value of the items stolen. The punishment may not require you to go to jail but may gain a fine. It's interesting you bring up the concept of pressing charges. Currently, the only time illegal immigration charges are leveled is when the immigrant has already been convicted of another crime. So if there are no district attorneys willing to prosecute an illegal alien simply for being present in the country, have they really committed a crime?
  19. IMO, I think that is one of the biggest motivators for religous belief. People dont want to believe its over when they die. We are such wonderful creatures that of course some part of us will exist for eternity! Id like to ask of the believers, do all living things on Earth have a soul or just humans? Interesting question, and one that will likely get all sorts of different responses, depending on faith and personal beliefs. My shrt answer would be yes. But my hamster doesn't really have a range of emotions, she doesn't seem to feel remorse. She's lacking the complexities of the human spirit. On the other hand, dogs and cats seem to have a bit more complexity in their souls. They can mourn and have ersonal attachments. Emotions are key to what I consider the soul to be. But really, this isn't religion, this is spiritualism. Yeah, you need to be spiritual be religious, but you don't need to be religious to be spiritual. I see each individual spirit as incredibly unique and fascinating. I don't believe it simply disappears when the body dies.
  20. Sand, that's exactly the reason he used the word crusade. It's like you missed the entire post and just read the last line.
  21. This is the first time I've really envied Bok.
  22. Yeah, I think it's fun to think about this stuff and try to put it into words. I guess if I didn't have these forums, I'd have to write my opinions in a journal or something. Dear Diary, Pixies is dreamy!
  23. Hey, these are all just opinions here. The answer to the question of whether God exists has always been personal, and I suppose it can never be fully answered until you die. Science is great. It explains all sorts of amazing stuff. But faith is great too, and since God can mean something different to every individual, it will always remain relevant. It seems silly to me to try and argue over which science or religion is the most logical or powerful. Everyone should form their own beliefs and not let others meddle in them, because it's a personal belief.
