  1. Bleh, just lost 6 in a row.
  2. Well, BF1943 is coming out soon. There are a few things that I'm upset about with the new game, but the command structure seems to be the same.

I'm pretty bummed. It helped that they haven't played well the last two months, so it wasn't a terrible surprise like last year, when they entered the playoffs super hot. I've been thinking a lot about who needs to be kept, and who should be used as trade bait. Defense keepers - Dan Boyle was the best Shark in the series, so they need him. There aren't any replacements available out there for his style of play. Douglas Murray is the other keeper, he was a hitting machine, and he doesn't have a ton of value on the market. Goalie - Nabakov wasn't great, but unless Loungo or Lundquist become available, there isn't anyone out there. He's a consistent goalie, he will win games if the offense is doing what they are supposed to. In the 4 losses, the Sharks only managed 3 goals total, so you can't really blame the keeper. They do need to bring up their prospect and have him play 20 games next season, no matter what else happens. Offense keepers - Eh, if they can make a good trade, everyone is fair game. I'd probably say hold on to Thornton unless you are getting a dominant player, because 90 points a season is tough to replace.
  4. I'm pretty sure we've argued this before, but how, exactly are you measuring what works better? My regular ole' public school was second in the state last year for testing. We beat plenty of charter schools and any private schools that actually bother with the testing. My former students are going to Yale, Stanford, Harvard, and pretty much any other distinguished University you can name. Now if you are arguing strictly from a financial standpoint, I will concede that charter schools and private run more efficiently. But Charter schools by design function on a small scale, so taking an urban area and turning all the schools into the charter model would never work. Charter Schools rely heavily on the parent community taking an active role, and as a teacher who has spent time in less distinguished schools, I will tell you that there are just a buttload of terrible parents out there. And private institutions simply cut off the bottom half of the population from educational opportunities.
  5. Bleh, lets not bring up private schools. Ridiculous waste of money.
  6. Care to post a screenshot? Sure, should be easy since the only way to get the game to run was to disable the User Access Control in Vista. I'll try to remember tonight if I get to play.
  7. Just reached Tarant in Arcanum. I'm loving the resolution mod, the game looks good at 1600x1050. I'm a young monk trying to find his away in the world. I'm perceptive and good with my stick and alchemy, but not much for technology or magic.
  8. But why did that heavy metal guy die a few years back because he couldnt afford an operation? Did he need a new liver? I'm not sure what all the rules are, but there is a limited amount of organs available in the country, and so there are ways to get on the list. Money helps, but if I remember correctly, people who have drank themselves into a lousy liver are lower priority than people with other issues. Do other countries just hand out hearts and livers and kidneys like candy?

It will be an interesting off-season for Avery, that's for sure. His coach hung him out to dry here. Whether his actions were right or wrong, this was badly handled by Torts. Avery has a lot of faults, but he gives everything on every shift, and benching him was just a lousy message to send. The Rangers will have to decide who they want to get rid of here. I'd say side with Avery and ditch Torts, but I don't think that will ever happen. Siding with an already controversial player is just not how NHL teams operate. It will also be interesting to see what will happen if the Rangers do cut Avery loose? Will someone take him in? He's a difference maker in games, but he also brings a lot of negative attention. Maybe the Kings will bring him back. They need the help, and LA is a market that doesn't pay attention to antics.
  10. Just installed Arcanum, and found a new high res mod to go with it. Sweet!
  11. For some reason, this thread is just making me want to replay Arcanum. Anyone know of any decent mods for it?
  12. Actually, poor people get health care in the US. Hospitals and clinics cannot refuse service to anyone. They do get a mountain of debt though.

Geez, I wonder what Tortorella does when his team is down in a playoff series? Pretty crazy stuff! Why don't any of the teams the Sharks play have meltdowns like these? No luck at all!
  14. It would be more constructive if we came to terms with what will not be changed in Fallout: NV. Here is a list: 1. Graphics (same engine) 2. Gameplay (including VATS) That may seem severe, but lo and behold, there are plenty of other important things for Obsidian to put their marks on. 1. Story 2. Setting 3. New characters 4. Maybe new perks

Sharks win! Went to OT. It's amazing that the Sharks have doubled the shots of Anaheim in 4 of 5 games, and they are the ones with their backs against the wall. Patty Marleau has a ton of game winning goals in the playoffs. He got it done again.

Nope, he's got the lone goal. He didn't play well in game four, but he played good in the other three. But he hasn't been the best player on the ice, either, at least not for a full 60 minutes. And there is an expectation that he do that. I think it's a bit unrealistic, he's a playmaker and right now his supporting cast isn't getting it done when he does get the pass to them. So what I'm saying is he could play better, but I don't think he's playing badly. he first twenty minutes of this game was awesome though,h e was chirping at Getzlaf from the start, he put it in the net, and he set up some big plays. If he carries it into the next two periods, the Sharks should survive to play again.

The Sharks have driven me to drinking. But at least they've got the 1-0 lead in game 5 right now.
  18. Probably just a bunch of random losers. Only accept the losers you know! I sent a request, hit level 8 as well.
  19. Sweet, what are you going to name the clan? Obsidian Society of Brutes? Et tu Brute?
  20. Eh, the differences between the ES character sheets and the Fallout 3 system is rather gigantic. I've never thought the ES class creation and leveling systems were all that inspired. They were open ended and functional and that was about it. Fallout 3 implemented SPECIAL and I found it much more rewarding. A few of the traits were particularly inspired. I saw it as a pretty radical jump for Bethesda. Obviously there is room for improvement, and I think Obsidian will help progress the system, but I didn't see much of TES in it at all.
  21. There is a big difference between constructive criticism and whining.
  22. I really would like to have a poll to see how many folks liked Fallout 3. When it was finally released, the threads on these forums were overwhelmingly positive. Even quite a few skeptics were happy with the end result. It just amazes me how quickly the negative train pulled back into the station, is all.

Jesus, 5-5 with another period to play! That's insane.
  24. Anyone level 10 yet?
