  1. Because religion, as a whole, has done more harm than good. 1 good act does not counter 1000s of misdeeds. Do you have evidence of this? Most cities have hundreds of churches, mosques, and temples, and yet I rarely hear about them committing acts of terror and horribleness. On the other hand, most of them run charities and community outreach programs. Helping those less fortunate is a pillar of major religions throughout history. I'm not even a big fan of organized religion, I think it will always be flawed, but dismissing it altogether seems like cutting off your nose to spite your face.
  2. I've played MLB 09 The Show more than anything so far on the PS3, and that is an exclusive title.
  3. I consider the PS3 a very good deal if you are looking for a good blu-ray player.
  4. True, and I am not trying to say that Religion has never done anything positive. What can be contested is the harm-to-good ratio - not that I'm saying anything about that. I would disagree with that. What humans want is answers and Religion fills in unknowns. The factuality of those answers can be debated -or, in some cases, disproved- but the fact is that humans abhor not knowing and want answers. Do you think there will ever come a time where we actually know all the answers? I just don't see that happening without some sort of evolutionary transcendence. So religion will always have a void to fill, which sounds like a part of human nature in my book. Sure, there are people that will not need to fill that void, just like there are people that do not have strong desires, or jealousy, or anger. But they are all a part of human nature. Now that I think about it, it is entirely likely that even the most staunch atheists will question their beliefs, just like the most devout priests will question their faith. Life is long and there are a lot of tests to endure. Seems very natural to me.
  5. We can argue about atheism versus religion, but it's really a moot point. Religion is a part of human nature, it isn't going anywhere. It has as much chance of disappearing as sex. Sure, we can reproduce without sex. Science has rendered it an unnecessary function, but people still go to great lengths to engage in it. And even though there are some folks on this board who don't get it, it is pretty easy to understand why folks would do it 5 times a day.
  6. Is it your first play-through? I thought it was an excellent game, very well done.
  7. There is also a double standard here where folks love to harp on the horrible acts done in the name of religion while completely dismissing all the kindness and acts of good will done in the same name.
  8. We Own the Night - Solid cop drama, I enjoyed it very much.
  9. I had quite a few games with serious issues on the 360, and I'm pretty sure it was a combination of the game and the hardware. Fable 2 caused a few big crashes and eventually a RRoD. Saint's Row 2 had about an hour limit before it would freeze. I loved my 360, but it is far from a stable platform.
  10. Huh, I was hoping they would move away from Arkham. I get that they are moving it or whatever, but it still would be nice to have a different theme, like maybe the Mansion or the Wayne Skyscraper.
  11. Yep, Mother Theresa was a downright bastard. Those church soup kitchens in my neighborhood are also clearly a breeding ground for horribleness.
  12. I'm not sure if this is totally accurate, but I am guessing that, since they are using Bethesda's engine, it is still in Bethesda's hands to make it more stable.
  13. Why are communist dictators afraid of civil rights? Because all leaders are afraid of civil rights. Barack Obama is afraid of civil rights? I think you are quite wrong on this. I disagree a bit on this. All leaders are hesitant to deal with civil rights because of the fear of the mob rule. Tyranny of the masses is a very real concern, and there have been few leaders in our history that have been willing to ignore the masses in order to protect the civil rights of minorities. I read a few years back about George W. Bush's personal stance on gay rights, and it was shocking that he actually sounded fairly pro-gay rights. He was in office for 8 years and he didn't do anything on a federal level that actually showed that. The excuse given is that he has to represent a constituency, but there have been a few leaders that have ignored their constituency to address civil rights. It's all part of being a politician, I suppose.
  14. The Taliban ran a horrible government before the war. It was founded on fear and terror.
  15. I tried the Torchlight demo. Definitely a cool stylized game, it just isn't my cup of tea and I don't think it will hold me attention. It actually made me contemplate loading up Titan's Quest, since I figured I already own a good hack and slash game that I never got too far into. I also am almost done with Saint's Row 2. I've been working my way through it slowly for about a year now, it really is just a great game to pick up and roll through for an hour or so. I'm also working through a season on MLB 09 The Show. I'm 27 and I'm in the last year of my contract with the Blue Jays, making 16 million. I'm hoping to sign a nice deal with a more competitive team, The Blue Jays just don't have the pitching staff to get us into the playoffs.
  16. I'm not sure how Rogue Squadron or Battlefront would be preferable to TFU, those were pretty mediocre properties. I'll agree on the others, although there is another KotOR coming, it just isn't the one you want
  17. I keep meaning to pick up the original, since it's like $14 now. It looks entertaining enough for that price, I enjoyed the demo.
  18. Every PC game is different, and the amount of different PC configurations out there are countless. You might have luck with a lot of games, but eventually you will need to troubleshoot if you really want to keep playing PC games. It's just odd that you would rather give up and blame the game rather than trying to fix the problem. There are thousands of people that managed to play Fallout 3 without it crashing every 30 minutes. I'm not saying the game doesn't have technical issues, it has plenty, but crashing that often is something on your end, not just the game.
  19. Sounds more like a hardware issue. Do you get a BSOD? Try disabling "automatic restart upon system failure" in control panel and see what it says. Yeah, that's pretty much your system. With that attitude, you might as well give up on PC gaming in general.
  20. I fight with Steam a lot. I think it has a good deal to do with my lousy internet connection, but it is still a hassle. So yeah, great deals, but there are some issues you can expect.
  21. We don't have our property tax built in to the mortgage payment, but it has dropped every year since we bought in 2004. Started at $4400, went to $3000, $2200, and this year it is $1600. Pretty insane.
  22. I'm a little surprised they didn't polish the graphics or something, if they were going to spend time on it. I know you can up the resolution with a patch, but it doesn't look all that great.
  23. Compared to Daggerfall FO3 is a tiny little unresponsive blip of a game. Daggerfall is an all-time favorite for me, but I'm not sure I can really agree with that. It was an amazing game for its time, but I don't think it can stand up to the big games of today.
  24. Crashing doesn't bother me nearly as much as permanently broken content and game play, as long as the crashes are few and far between.
  25. That was in the press release, but depending on development progress I predict the real date will be sometime in Q2-Q4 2011. I'd be surprised if they were really allowed that much time. I'm guessing, much like KotOR II, they are expected to have a quick development cycle so they can capitalize on Fallout 3 still being a recent release.
