So the gunshots and music being inspired by gangster rap is cool with Jesus, but front hugging is out. Got it. Jesus was a side hugger. I guess I missed that in the bible, good to know.

We repaid them through the stealing of their lands and the near genocide of their people. Thanks for the cheery rendition.

It's not really a religious holiday in any way.

Well, there is a TES MMO in development, so we may not see a TES 5. But I'm guessing we will get at least onemore single player Elder Scrolls game.

TES V - I didn't dig Oblivion, but I'm going to call that an anomaly since I've enjoyed all the other TES games and Fallout 3. Diablo III looks like a lot of hacking and slashing and phat lewt, which doesn't tug my boat the way it used to. Still, I look forward to the cutscenes.

Im looking for an "African Myth" themed rpg
Hurlshort replied to urielrose's topic in Computer and Console
Gabriel Knight has a ton of the Louisiana voodoo stuff in it, but again it is an adventure game. You could make a pretty sweet game using some of the different African tribes in the lore. The masks and costumes alone would be fantastic. -
Happy Thanksgiving to everyone as well. I'm always thankful I have such an interesting group of Obsidianites to talk to over the years, it's been a lot of fun.

Im looking for an "African Myth" themed rpg
Hurlshort replied to urielrose's topic in Computer and Console
Quest for Glory III has an African style theme going for it. edit: What exactly would Swahili gods entail? Swahili is a combination of Bantu and Arabic, and the written history that we know of the area is mostly what we have from Muslim scholars. Are you talking about tribes? Wouldn't they not be considered Swahili? I'm not trying to be argumentative, it is an area of history I'm interested in learning more about but have only had time to scratch the surface. -
Poor guy, stuck hanging out in a swiss chalet. Life is really rough!

While I'm not really in the whole green-peace camp, I'm also not losing sleep over companies have to shell out money to make more environmentally friendly products and factories. 100 years from now, do you think people are going to be complaining about pollution, or the money spent on preventing pollution?

There was one point where I was annoyed at the lack of inventory space, but then I ventured into the lair of the demonic pack rat that resides in my soul and bested the beast. I got rid of all the junk I never was going to use and never had a problem after that. I also found that money was little issue after the first half of the game.

It's pretty cool how deeply you have mastered doublethink. So, because it's kotorchum doing it, German soldiers = NAZI. Everyone else must be very careful with the distinctions between Waffen-SS, Wehrmacht, Gestapo, SD, party officials, etc. Ok, replace nazi soldier with German soldier during WW2. It does not change the fact that his bias against them is not an issue today. You are really reaching here. Are you under the impression that you are without bias?
-
I'm not sure how being biased against Nazi soldiers is really an issue today. He isn't claiming to hate a race of people or anything like that. And we all carry around biases, it's a part of who we are as individuals. The biggest thing you can do is be willing to recognize where those biases might affect your judgment. We are discussing our opinions on a forum here, it's not like he's carrying his bias into a courtroom and making a ruling on a neo-nazi or something.

I'm pretty sure Wals addressed that by saying "If that same sodier then goes on to machinegun a bunch of orphans then he's a fallen hero." There is a code of conduct among soldiers. True heroes follow it, and they hold their fellow soldiers accountable to it. While the events of a massacre like My Lai are horrid and the soldiers involved all deserve punishment, there are some soldiers like Hugh Thompson Jr. who risked his life and confronted the men carrying out the massacre. It sounds like we need to define what "duty" means here, as I think there are a few different interpretations clashing here.

OK, why don't you state what your point was, but try to be intellectually honest. Are you claiming you were not defending the Wehrmacht? Look, if you really want to make this argument, you could argue that the SS was a major arm of the Wehrmacht, and by the end of the war they were pretty much running the show. That might be a better way to go here. I'm not defending or attacking anything here, I'm just stating the difference between a front-line soldier engaged in combat with opposing military forces and the folks who ran death camps.

Actually, alanschu seems to have understood my post completely. You, on the other hand, pretty much missed the whole point of my post and continue to dig deeper into your hole.

I am defending his right to be biased on the subject. In fact I wish everyone would include little disclaimers about their personal biases, it would probably save a lot of time in these arguments. Again, I'm all for going after the opinion itself and demonstrating the problems with it, I think we've done that pretty well with Wrath of Dagon's posts.

You ARE being anal. Okay, let's assume I'm a Protestant. Does that give me a more informed perspective on French Catholics because they happened to murder a whole bunch of Huguenots? And so on and so forth with any number of massacres throughout history. Kotorguy has NO personal experience of the tragedies of WWII. I'm not even attacking the validity of the claims of his grampa or whatever. But those are, to us, secondary sources, and their value is not certified because they are being presented by a Jew - so his being a Jew has no bearing on this discussion. I'm not quite sure where I said he has a more "informed perspective" I just said his statements were valid and relevant to the issue at hand. I have no problem admitting I am being anal. I find it very bothersome to see folks attack a young poster for sharing personal information with us.

Jagged Alliance 2 Xcom Baldur's Gate Fallout The Goonies on the NES That is all.

It's an opinion, so right or wrong doesn't really come into play here. He also isn't condemning Germans. You asked about Nazi soldiers, he answered about them. He does not believe German soldiers during WW2 can be considered heroes. I disagree with him, as do a few other folks here. But I take exception to attacking his disclaimer about being Jewish and having a familial connection to the tragedies of WW2. It's in bad taste to attack someone for sharing that information. Go after his opinion, sure, but attacking the validity of his personal experience to the issue? Weaksauce.

I see it this way, it's the same as a black person saying all white men are evil b/c his or her relatives were kept as slaves. So not really relevant at all. I see that as totally relevant. I can disagree with the assessment, but I can clearly see where the opinion is coming from. I also think the analogy makes more sense if the black person thinks all southerners during the era of slavery are evil, which again, makes sense even though we can dispute that most southerners didn't own slaves and many probably did not support slavery as an institution.

How is the Holocaust not relevant to a discussion on WW2?
