  1. I happened across a conversation thread from the Codex with Volourn, and those folks are just mean to him. It brought to mind the character of Simon in the Lord of the Flies (kid with glasses.) So now I feel sorry for him more than anything. Fight the good fight Volo!

The Ehrhoff deal is 10 years/$40 million. Hugely front loaded. $8 million signing bonus/$2 million salary in the first year, $5 million signing bonus/$2 million salary in the second year. Whoops, I made it sound more crazy than it is. Still sounds like way too much money for a guy that isn't really even a top two defensman. I think I read the cap hit was $4 million a season, which I suppose is more reasonable, but it still sounds crazy.
  3. Do you recommend a controller for the PC Purk?
  4. Crap, I made this thread almost 6 years ago. I really have no idea what the storyline is anymore, 6 years is too long to go in between books!

I am shocked at the deal Erhoff signed with Buffalo for 10 years and 70 million. That is an insane amount for a 5th defensman. Have they ever watched they guy play?
  6. I picked it up a few minutes ago. I loved it when I had it on the PS3, so I figure it will be a good addition to my PC library. Although I wonder if it would be better with a controller? I've been thinking about picking one up anyway. I grabbed all the DLC too, came out to about $7. I looked long and hard at Shogun 2, but $30 still seemed a bit steep. Black Ops is also up there for $40, which doesn't seem all that great of a price either.
  7. I don't really post on facebook without thinking, in fact I delete quite a few comments before posting because I think they might come across as snarky. It is different when I am in person and I can use inflection and all that. I agree forums are great for serious discussions, but I'm not going to get my mom to join a forum. As for the emphasis on pictures, I really enjoy being able to watch my friends kids grow up and to see how they are doing. Without facebook that would be more difficult to do, particularly the ones who are far away. There are other outlets for this communication, email and the like, but Facebook makes things very simple.
  8. I'm hoping Two Worlds 2 goes on sale one of these days. I can't think of anything else I really want. Blood Bowl looks interesting.
  9. Is this your second? Prepare for a rather steep increase in your workload. It doesn't just double the work, it creates a whole slew of logistical issues, depending on the age of your first. I think we talked about this before, actually I'll blame it on the sleep deprivation if I am repeating myself.
  10. Exactly. I actually chronicled my last big RV trip with pictures in two places, here and Facebook. I got more responses from the folks here than my friends and family!
  11. Uh, you moderate a gaming forum. No offense, I'm right here next to you wasting time online, but it just seemed a bit hypocritical.
  12. Woohoo! Congratulations, remember to take a few pictures.
  13. But they gave it a happy ending! I mean, sure it was competent and fairly good for what it was. But hollywood changed it to a happy ending! I didn't see the original, didn't it have Michael Cain in it? I'm sure that would have colored it for me. It wasn't really much of a happy ending. After Statham's big truck blows up, he walks a little way and gets in a bigger truck. Is that really happily ever after?
  14. I wonder what the expectation is for Square Enix? I'm guessing it is around the million units mark, maybe 1.5 million.
  15. Dark Allaince 2 has a much richer feature list and more replay oriented gameplay though. Multiple difficulty levels ... with unlockables and stuff. Drizzt was playable as an unlockable rewards for instance. DS3 pales in comparison to Dark Alliance 2. Geez, Dark Alliance 1 and 2 were even worse than Dungeon Siege 1 and 2. As for Drizzt Maybe DS3 should have had an unlockable Jason Statham character.
  16. Wow, I'm surprised Alice is doing so well. That seems like good news, anytime a bizarre twisted version of a fairy tale does well, I consider it good for the industry.
  17. The Mechanic - Jason Statham being Statham. It was solid enough, quite different than I expected.
  18. The problem is everyone is already on Facebook. You are basically asking us to leave a huge house party and go hang at Google's crib, which is empty. Sure, the Google house is probably better, but all our friends are at the Facebook shack. But hey, Google was super late to the email game, and they've turned gmail into a major player, so give it some time I guess.
  19. However the resources were not used wisely, should that cost then be pushed on to the purchaser? All it does is give the company a terrible reputation of 'wait for bargain bin, if that' for each new game they develop. So from a business perspective it is not reasonable. Maybe if this was the last game for the developer to ever make it would be okay from a business perspective to have an inflated price to begin with to see how many people buy it... but they need to create/maintain a reputation otherwise it will simply destroy chances of future products being a success. Uh, were you a project manager on DS3? I'm not sure how you can speak with much authority on use of resources. There is no concensus that this is a bargain bin title. That is your opinion. Reviews have been mixed, as has the reception of users here. As for maintaining a reputation, if the publisher paid AAA money and got what they considered a bargain bin product, and had to lower the price point to get it out the door, that would be a gigantic blow to Obsidian's reputation. That obviously isn't the case, Square Enix and Obsidian clearly have confidence in the product. Sales seem to be supporting that confidence so far, although it is really to early to tell.
  20. So no matter how good or bad it is or how much the playing experience represents value for money (or not as the case may be) the amount of money it cost to make it justifies the price tag? Have I missed something or is it Clown Night on the Obsidian forums? Quality has very little to do with pricing, that's a fairly subjective criteria. It was not developed to be sold as a low budget piece of software. The market has set the price point at $60 for a new release. Do movie theaters change ticket prices based on the quality of the movie?
  21. The product costs millions to make, so it is pretty hard to argue that $50 or $60 is too much for it. You can talk about opinions and it being worth your personal money, but from a business perspective the price point is very reasonable.
  22. Which is excellent news, as WoW was already a very good game. Statements like this, they're the moments that I realise I am amongst rats. Which, when you understand WoW's basic psychological principle, makes total sense. *tap a button get some crack* Good business plan, but...*sigh* Sophistication is... Well its a waste on such people. You work on video games, get over yourself.
  23. True Grit - The newer one. It was fantastic. Just about everything a western should be. My wife didn't like Matt Damon as a Texas Ranger though, but I thought he was good. It could have had more Josh Brolin.
  24. I imagine that may not be SFW for some people because of the audio. But haven't listened to it myself, yet. So, FYI guys. That's funny, I just got that book from another friend with young kids. It really is a perfect embodiment of the frustration I deal with every night trying to get my daughter to go to bed.
  25. Bad Teacher - Probably more entertaining because I went with a few teachers. Justin Timberlake was great, as was the guy from Forgetting Sarah Marshall.
