Places to Visit in Summer
To be fair, I'm not even sure Oby knows what this forum is for.

What you did today
Does your employer give you these surprise tests, or some agency? Seems like a pretty weird thing to do to an employee.

The Kickstarter Thread
Hrm, Dungeon Siege was not exactly high prose, and Krondor was based in another author's universe. I'm skeptical about this project. I'd be more likely to back him writing for a game than a book, tbh.

RANDOM VIDEO GAME NEWS
Apparently EA disputed the numbers and said EA Montreal is not closing down, so I wouldn't take it completely serious.

Shadowrun Returns
I'd like some more clarification on the patches though, they might still be made available via non-steam outlets. They only clearly state that fan content and DLC will require Steam in the future. A patch is a fairly easy thing to make available, you don't need to worry about transactions, and unlike fan content there should not be that many patches. Using Steam for the DLC is a no brainer, really. It's a marketplace.

Shadowrun Returns
I'm not sure they could have actually, I thought that was one of the stipulations of using Steam as a distributer. There's tons of games that that use a different system inside of steam for DLC etc. For example Bioshock 2 uses GFWL for DLC, all the Trackmania games use its own crappy frontend for all addon stuff. Yes, but that would require having a different system set up. As is they only need to set up a system for the initial release and then the one expansion, minimizing their need for an infrastructure. I get that people have spotty internet connections, I spent years living in the sticks and Steam was usually a pain in the rear. But this is a small time developer looking for the most efficient system, and this is what they've chosen.

The Kickstarter Thread
I would rather see teachers using www.donorschoose.org for something like this. I am concerned about the open ended funding aspect of Kickstarter in a public education setting. There are also so many fundraising opportunities for students to utilize to raise money, so how invested are the students? Are they doing car washes, selling cookie dough?

SW: The Old Republic Part 5
I was very happy with the KotOR 2 references in TOR.

Shadowrun Returns
Are you really bashing DLC, and then bashing them for only making the DLC that you just bashed available on Steam? People seem to not understand how difficult it is to distribute content. Steam is a fantastic option for a developer. It isn't some DRM conspiracy.

Political correctness gone wild
This is driven by the public though, the government has very little say in this, as evidenced by the President himself coming under fire. And the backlash can work both ways, because immediately after people reacted to the president's comment, you had a very large response condemning the condemners. In regards to your use of the term fairer sex, did you explain to the person that it is a common expression? They sound fairly ignorant, I don't know why you would pay them much mind at all.

Shadowrun Returns
It is still DRM free, and they are offering the only extra content they guaranteed DRM free as well. But Steam is a superior distribution system for anything they develop in the future, and it is completely logical that they would use it.

Shadowrun Returns
Unless I misunderstood, Shadowrun Returns and Berlin can be had DRM free, just not any future DLC. Yep, that is the situation, which is plenty fair.

Shadowrun Returns
I'm happy about the Steam deal, it means it will be easier for me to manage across multiple machines.

What are you playing now?
Lord of the Rings Online - After 6 years of playing this, I think it is safe to say it is the greatest game I have ever played. Turbine has really done a masterful job of recreating Middle Earth, and my Captain is easily the best class of character I have ever played in an RPG. It's just so deep, but despite that I can take a few months off and come back without feeling lost. Right now I'm working my way with the Rangers towards Isengard. Basically I am nearing the end of the second book after 6 years of playing the game. They still have Gondor and Mordor to build, so I imagine I've still got a couple years of story to tell. Brilliant. I do wonder what Turbine will do next.

So basically we are all concluding that women have trouble committing to serious long term forum relationships. That Dead Island statue is horrific. Who would buy that?

SW: The Old Republic Part 5
Not all MMOers are 14 year old needy kids. I've actually had quite a few good friendships develop in different MMO's, many of them lasting for years. For some reason TOR just doesn't inspire the same socialization in me though. I've never really grouped with someone and been like, hey, we should play together again sometime. Maybe I'm just getting older and more crotchety.

EA lives in a different reality
Oddly enough, I like BofA a lot. I've been with them since I was a teenager and they've always done right by me. I've found most fees they've hit me with were easy to get waived, and I even refinanced a car with them a couple years ago and saved money. Granted I have never had a home loan with them, that could change my outlook. But yeah, EA is just a game company, it's hard to have much righteous indignation because my SimCity game took a few weeks to work properly. I have no experience with Ticketmaster, but Comcast sucks. Comcast should be in the finals.

She's 48, clearly Ponce De Leon was on to something when he looked for the fountain of youth in Florida. GD, I remember you were once married and I think it was in Florida, is this the ex missus?
