  1. Day 3 - Ok, we finally are hitting the more scenic areas, so I'll try to get some good environment shots tomorrow. It's also the first non driving day of the trip, which is great. Today we passed into New Mexico. There were quite a few clouds in the sky, and some loked like rain clouds, but you could actually see the rain evaporating before it got low enough to do anything. We also passed a ton of huge dust storm twister things, they were crazy looking. I wasn't going to stop and take pictures in case they turned my way, sorry. When we got into Las Cruces, we decided to trek a mile to a really good Mexican restaurant for dinner. Afterward we walked to a beautiful minor basilica called San Albino. Just for ManifestedISO: We also stopped off at this odd roadside attraction called The Thing. Spoiler alert, the Thing was a mummified mother and child. I could not get a good photo because of the glare, but I did take a picture of this gun. I'm not sure I believe the sign that says it is priceless, it cost a buck to get into this attraction: They definitely had some weird taste at this place: I did have a bit of a flash of the movie Nothing But Trouble, but we did the Humpty Dance and they let us go in the end.
  2. They are light truck tires, and they are goodyear, so I actuallu got a decent price. Unfortunately we we really just passing through Arizona, so not much sightseeing. I should come back here in the winter.
  3. Ok, I bought it, so you better be right.
  4. You can't really compare an institution like Nintendo to Crytek.
  5. I think my biggest issue with futbol is the extra time. We have the technology to keep track of time accurately. It shouldn't be a surprise at the 90 minute mark.
  6. We are in Marana. I'll look into the Boneyard, we've got a pretty easy drive today so we definitely have time for stops. Today we head into New Mexico, where I'm guessing the Breaking Bad feeling will ratchet up a bit. I went for a run this morning at 6:30 AM and it was already hot. Yikes! Now we are eating breakfast before we hit the road. The internet connection at this park is fantastic, btw. I could even get on Steam and do some stuff.
  7. If you had told the US they would have a win and a draw two games into the group play when the World Cup started, they would have been overjoyed. It was a tough way to tie, but they are still in great shape. They need a decent showing against Germany and hope that Ghana/Portugal is a close game.
  8. Oddly enough I was driving by the Giants-Diamondbacks game in Phoenix just as it was finishing. Bummer I couldn't work that into the trip.
  9. Day 2 - We rolled out of the park before 8 AM and hit a local Target for all of our missing supplies. Then we started to drive. And drive. And drive. Seriously, driving through the deserts of California and Arizona is not the most exciting thing. It was pretty cool when we hit the parts of Arizona with the giant cacti, I'll try and get a picture of them tomorrow. I tried to convince Logan to take some desert pictures at a rest stop, but it was 105 degrees Fahrenheit, so he put the kibosh on that. We stopped off in Phoenix for some Ice Cream at a place called Melt. It was this odd neighborhood of artsy shops that looked like it had once been a pretty bad part of town. The ice cream was great, and from there we hit our destination a bit outside of Tuscon. We went straight to the pool. Now we are eating some wontons and watching a movie with the AC on full blast. One more driving day and then I get a break in New Mexico.
  10. When I broke my leg a few years back playing hockey, as they wheeled me off the ice, I turned to my friend who had recently hit that age and I said, "This is what happens when you turn 30." So enjoy, it ain't easy.
  11. Here's a great action shot of us going down the road with the windows down and some impressive winds buffeting us:
  12. Huh, having some issues with this internet connection, but I'll try again: Day 1: We rolled out of the house and I managed to only forget a few things, all pretty easy to pick up at a grocery store. THe drive was pretty difficult, we overheated on a mountain pass called the Grapevine in Southern California. My AC was causing a bit too much strain on the engine, but it cooled off quickly enough when we ran the heater for a spell. No other problems, but I'll be watching the gauges closely. Thankfully we won't be going through many more mountains. We arrived in the desert town of Hesperia and I grilled up some pork chops and veggies. We've got an early start tomorrow as we head into Arizona. All kids need is a bit of dirt to be happy.
  13. Day 1 - We rolled out of the house around 10 AM, after a busy morning of packing up the RV. I only forgot%
  14. I'm taking a big trip this year, covering more miles and staying more days than I ever have before. I think the kids and the wife are finally ready, and I've upgraded the RV enough that we should be very comfortable. Now I thought I had taken care of all the RV maintenance in May (oil change and replaced the engine battery), but while I was cleaning the toilet I noticed a minor leak from the hose that directs water in to the bowl. I took it into the shop, and thy discovered a few cracked parts. It was cheaper (and faster) to replace the whole unit, so I've got a spiffy new ceramic bowl to pee in. Since I was at the shop, I also asked them to check the tires. They are about 7 years old, so they recommended I replace the two front tires before the trip. That was a pretty big chunk of change to drop, but luckily I had budgeted some money for repairs and work. The toilet was $280 after labor and the tires were $360. Yikes! But now I shouldn't have any worries as I roll through the desert *knock on wood*. T-Minus 2 days Just a look back at previous years: 2009 2012 2013
  15. I picked up Witcher 2 for cheap. A lot of these sales don't seem that great. Dead Rising 3 is still $30, and DayZ is only 15% off.
  16. 5 in 15 is insane. 2 in 4 is not nearly as impressive. Teams win a couple titles close together on a regular basis. Winning 5 in a 15 year period is bonkers. It's more impressive to me that the Heat went to 4 straight finals. That's remarkable. Why are you trying to belittle the Spurs again?
  17. Sometimes when a bulb gets too hot it will pop and stop working, but might not be damaged enough to be burnt out completely. So once it has cooled off, it can still function. Which means you might have a wiring issue somewhere in there. edit: Just realized Amentep theorized that already.
  18. Ice Hockey is really only popular in a few states. It has grown tremendously over the last 20 years, but it still lags behind the big 3. Field Hockey, for whatever the reason, has gotten more of a reputation as a women's sport. But honestly Ice Hockey is way better as a spectator, so that shouldn't be surprising that it is more popular. I'd be plenty happy with my kids played soccer, as long as they can skip the horrific youth soccer phase.
  19. It's more a matter of what could the top US athletes do if they were raised on futbol. LeBron James would be a monster in any sport. Whereas Landon Donovan, probably the most recognizable US soccer player, wouldn't make it in the NBA or NFL.
  20. You have to remember that the US Soccer program only gets the athletes that weren't good enough for Basketball, Football, Baseball, or Hockey.
  21. Krookie is all grown up! The experts all said an internet forum was a bad place to raise a child, but the Obsidianites did it. Now go conquer the world. Literally.
  22. I know it has happened in hockey. I don't know why they'd blow the Heat up, they still went to the finals 4 straight years.
  23. Rugby is crazy in its own way, but at the NFL level the armor becomes as much of a weapon as a way to protect. I have no idea how the US will do in the World Cup, but I'll probable watch it if I get a chance.
  24. Whelp, one of the kids just interrupted the wife and I while I was getting my father's day present, so that was awkward. Hopefully I won't be paying too much in therapy bills for that down the road.
