  1. When my thumbnail did that, I would just wrap some tape around it during hockey games to keep it from jarring. Of course on your foot that might not be optimal.
  2. I think you can actually skip a bunch of the side quests if you take advantage of the xp boosts or a double weekend. I hope they streamline the leveling process up to 50 someday soon, like they did in WoW. My jedi knight is almost done with the Hutt Cartel storyline. It is ok, but I imagine I will enjoy the Revan expansion a good deal more.
  3. I'm actually just using the journal of Cabeza de Vaca to recreate the Narváez Expedition. It is more about getting the storyline to fit within the game mechanics.
  4. If I lost a loved one in a tragedy like the ones WoD has pointed out, immigration status would be pretty far down my list of concerns. http://www.breitbart.com/big-government/2015/07/21/mother-of-son-murdered-by-illegal-alien-slams-sanctuary-cities-politicians-your-silence-speaks-volumes/ This murderer had been in the US since he was 11. He spent his formative years in our country, most likely in our school systems. Was he a murderer when he got here at 11, just waiting for the right time to kill an American kid? I'd say there are bigger societal issues here than his immigration status. If her son was killed by an American citizen, would that be less bad? It just seems like a distraction a way to politicize a tragedy. Was this gang violence? Was the guy mentally unstable? I can't find out, because all the articles are about him being from Belize. The lady who was killed in San Francisco is another tragedy that should be way less about immigration and way more about mental health care. This guy was deported 5 times, and he was in custody the night before the shooting. He was clearly a mentally unstable guy, and nobody did anything to try and help him on either side of the border.
  5. Always Sunny in Philadelphia is the best.
  6. I am using RPGMaker 2003 for this first project, so there aren't many resources available (unless you want to manually change them to work in 256 colors.) But the base stuff fits my project pretty well, so I'm not too worried about that. I have been getting a lot faster at setting up maps and events, which is very nice. It's been a fun experience. I think I'll use RPGMaker VX/Ace for whatever I do next, it has more resources, more flexibility, but is also more complex.
  7. So I've been putting a ton of time into my RPGMaker project, and I've got 20+ maps done with all sorts of characters, events, etc. So I sat down to run through it from start to finish, to get a gauge on the length. I figure I've put about 60 hours of work into it. It clocked in at 18 minutes. Making games is hard.
  8. It really doesn't even make sense that there isn't a Black Widow film in development. ScarJo is a bigger name than both the Thor guy and Captain America. She carried that weird Lucy movie to a huge box office take, so I don't get it.
  9. I agree with Volourn. This isn't a discussion thread. It is just a hate thread. I'm also a bit shocked that Oby can even make threads anymore without moderator approval. Also super curious about the Omega Boys tag. That seems pretty obscure for a "Russian" guy.
  10. It is difficult to imagine anyone other than Hugh Jackman playing Wolverine at this point. Would it have spawned its own movies if Dougray Scott had played the part?
  11. I just hope it is as good as the Wing Commander movie.
  12. Well I certainly never understood the reputation Trump has for being a self made man. His father was the one who built a real estate empire from the ground up, not him. He nearly bankrupt it. He deserves credit for rebounding and building it back up, sure, but he still started the game with a significant advantage.
  13. I have my moments, but it's never really my intention to be cool. I have my good days and my bad days, and at the end of the year there will be a few students who love me, a few that hate me, and a lot that are indifferent.
  14. The guy has alienated Mexican Americans and veterans. I'm guessing he will implode somewhat soon. The election is a long ways off. It would be a travesty if he was nominated, because there is no way he will win the general election. I think the Republican party has a fairly high chance of beating Clinton if they can field a decent candidate and not self destruct.
  15. I am enjoying a fantastic bottle of Cabernet Franc from a local winery tonight. Sadly a neighbor came by and drank like half of it, so it is all gone.
  16. That's an interesting point. I think the best way to combat an overly PC society is with a mix of context and humor. Yeah, I want my students to be sensitive to racism and sexism, I want them to empathize with one another. I want them to be accepting of each other and create a positive environment that fosters growth for all. There is always room for improvement there. But I also want them to understand how far we have come as a society, as a global civilization. How much better these specific kids have than they would have 5,000, 500, or even 50 years ago. And I don't want them to lose the ability to laugh at themselves and at cultural differences. Should I censor a project group that names themselves "5 Asians and a White Guy" because they focused on race? Of course not, it was playful and fun. Should I tone down my super exaggerated French accent when teaching about the Franks? Maybe, but I haven't gotten fired yet.
  17. This thread turned super awesome. Having driven through Texas once, I can confirm that it is ten gallon hats and T-bone steaks.
  18. I can point to plenty of democrats like Joseph Leiberman and Hilary Clinton that have a terrible track record when it comes to censorship. I'd consider them just as conservative as a number of Republicans. Really I find that the concept of left and right in American politics is completely overstated. They are all pretty much different shades of the same color. You might find this hard to believe, but I'm not a liberal in any real sense. I am a hardcore moderate, and I think both conservatives and liberals are crazy.
  19. That quick transition from, er, the 1950s? Did you miss the 80's and 90's or something?
  20. We all have our troll moments.
  21. The 3 month break is pretty much gone. Most districts take 2 months off in the summer. Granted every district and every state is different, so I only really speak for California with authority. But we are a pretty big agriculture state.
  22. Ah, well I definitely don't mean to belittle those who don't share personal stuff. Although really, if you hang around long enough, some of your secrets are bound to come out. I'd say it is tough to distinguish yourself from a one dimensional character if you don't share a little bit about where you are coming from. Some people like to put it all out there right away, like Bruce, and some people share bits and pieces over time. In time you will all assimilate.
  23. I find it interesting how quickly the conservative base has switched from wanting to censor and condemn, to crying about being censored and condemned. It's been such a quick transition. I mean, McCarthy was a conservative Christian Republican who went after people for being communists and gays. Now every conservative Christian is claiming to be persecuted by socialists and gays. Crazy how the pendulum swings. The wonderful thing is all we need is basic capitalism to fix this mess. Reddit can make all the autocratic changes it wants, but if people stop using it, they will sink back into oblivion.
  24. Ok, sounds pretty similar to what we have in the states for the most part. Only difference is the Easter break is shorter and the summer starts earlier and is a bit longer. I think the state mandates 180 teaching days.
  25. Hmm, I'm not sure how schools handle vacations in the UK, but in the US each district has a different schedule and there are usually plenty of opportunities to take the kids on a vacation. As a teacher, 5 days of training sounds like absolute torture. The nice thing about staggering them is you can put them near the end of grading quarters, or before a standardized test, in order to prep for those things. When the district tries to schedule professional development, it usually involves us staring at a presenter blankly.
